    You could expand your layout and build a brewery?!

    I’ve seen some empty coal cars on regular freight trains. They would add some flavor to the manifest.

    Southern was a big railcar innovator.

    I remember buying a number of Walthers auto rack kits at a train show, then I walked into a hobby shop and found a new display of pre-assembled auto racks but they were expensive! That was around the time when Athearn had the pup trailers for ABF,.... then they got pulled off the market because ABF didn’t give anyone permission to use their name!

    Those Triple Crown Services trailers can be run piggyback, they would not be worth the effort to customize them to become RoadRailers! I live in the area where they’re corporate offices are, their terminal here closed and is now an intermodal terminal for bulk commodities and some container chassis storage. I snapped dozens of pictures in the late nineties of the terminal when it was TCS next to the Conrail yard. Nowadays I’m sure you’ve seen former TCS RoadRailers on piggyback since TCS is a shell of it’s former glory! Many of the trailers are 20+ years old since I’ve heard RoadRailer trailers are no longer manufactured, I think the last one was built 10+years ago!

    Though I'm uncertain if you researched this, I'm posting this here for anyone else who might come upon this video: the Norfolk Southern coalporters were made by a company called E&C Shops, which went defunct and reorganized into the LBF Company, which also went defunct with some of its tooling ending up with Intermountain. The man who owned these companies wasn't smart with his finances, and owed the State of Oregon alone more than $400K when his business finally went under in 2009. Unfortunately, there are no known archived news articles, but a post on the Model Railroader Magazine forums broke the story with the following thread expanding upon it.
    A shame, really. Coalporters aren't cheap these days, and E&C was capable of churning them out with 20 or so road numbers with each run. They pop up on eBay fairly consistently, though.

    2:10 I've never seen one of those before! I thought they were just transported in normal orange ATSF reefers like the one at 12:50 (judging by the yellow one at 9:45, I bet these reefers are much older)
    2:30 that car is actually a wood-sided boxcar. The prototype might've been built during world war I
    6:13 you could put your logo and channel on that one (same with the blue one)
    You have a nice collection of ATSF box cars and piggyback flatcars!
    I've only got a couple of unassembled rolling stock kits, and they were both Athearn. One of them was an ATSF work train mail car that I added lights to

      eBay has been around for about 25 years - you have to research who you are buying from and the payment methods heavily protect the buyers.

    Whenever you show model railway items in your collection I always ask the question, why is American rolling stock so colourful compared to British rolling stock. I guess there were so many railroads pre grouping that they differentiated there road schemes

    • @TrainTsarFun
      @TrainTsarFun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There use to be tons of railroads and business and it’s shrunk over the years. Basically there are 4 main railroads and I few short lines. The main RR are Norfolk Southern, CSX, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific. UP is the only one that’s name has stayed unchanged through the mergers

      Train Tsar Fun there used to be over 100 US railways but they merged into the big 4 of America like how all the English railways merged into the big 4 of England in 1923. The US railways merged because they couldn’t keep up with airlines or the interstates. Amtrak is government funded and uses all tracks owned by the American big 4 so that’s why big 4 freight trains have right of way over Amtrak passenger trains. If only the US had more high speed tracks other than the tri state area from DC to Boston
