Justification and sanctification - they must not be separated nor confused

  • In this video I dig into Scripture's teaching on justification and sanctification. One of my main goals is to show that justification and sanctification must neither be confused nor separated.
A lot more could be said on this topic of course. One may notice a lack of emphasis on the aspect of faith (alone!) as the instrument by which we receive Christ's righteousness. However, that simply was not the focus of this video.

Thank you ! That was really clear. I used to not understand why we are saved without works but yet we should do works. Now I get it, justification and sanctification are two things apart

I think the problem with separating justification from sanctification comes from Protestant Reformers and modern Protestant apologists who make a great to do in denying the Catholic doctrine that in justification an interior change is effected in the believer, such that they are made just/righteous. The Protestant rhetoric seems to stem from Luther who spoke of a mere "forensic" justification, comparing it to being like the covering of snow on a dunghill, as something external and not interior. The Catholic doctrine is that an interior change is effected in justification, in that one receives sanctifying grace, which gives one the ability to subdue the remaining traces of original sin, which is called, not sinful nature, but concupiscence. I think it is Protestant rejection of that Catholic teaching which has created the problem, together with the rhetoric of Luther which asserted that the Christian is simultaneously saint and sinner, and other Protestant ideas that it is inevitable that a Christian will always sin in this life. The Wesleys had an answer to refute that, in their doctrine of Christian perfection and holiness as perfect love excluding sin.

@anselman3156 so in other words your flesh never sins now? Well that is what you're implying clearly which is a lie so you still sin. You are not acknowledging the dead man cannot do good, you're basically claiming that the old man is actually the new man.

@@destroyingtheworksofthedev9349 It is ironic that your user name is taken from 1 John 3.8/ Have you not taken the message of that epistle, which says that it is written "that ye sin not"? 1 John 2.1. Read on: hereby know we that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him and keepeth not his commandments is a liar. Chapter 3 tells us that if we abide in him, if we do not cease to see him and know him, we cannot sin. Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, that is, to stop us sinning, for he who sins is of the devil. It is by abiding in Christ we are able to mortify the old nature and to keep from sinning. "Go and sin no more", as the Saviour said.

To Summarize this Video Presentation... It only explains the application but not its own definitions, context, purpose, and meaning... According to this Blogger, JUSTIFICATION is applied only to what Christ Jesus has done for us (mankind) so we might be saved for those who believe in Christ Jesus... while SANCTIFICATION is applied only to the Believers of Christ (Christians) who are Spiritually Born Again thru the guidance and help of the Holy Spirit so as not to be able to SIN from the weakness of the FLESH...
In conclusion, the blogger teaches that JUSTIFICATION is applied only to Christ Jesus while SANCTIFICATION is applied to the Christian believers (Spiritually Born Again) but still struggling towards their Earthly FLESH weaknesses while still alive on Earth... until the GLORIFICATION of both Flesh (Perfect/Immortal body) and Spirit in the AFTERLIFE, on Judgment Day of God.
Q1?... Define first the English words between JUSTIFICATION (noun) and SANCTIFICATION (noun) by/thru Word Definition, Context, and Meaning as well as their Difference/s?
Q2?... Is the definition of JUSTIFICATION (noun) synonymous with the definition of SANCTIFICATION (noun) which means "An Act of Righteous/Reasonable Declaration"??
Q3?... Why and How Justification and Sanctification must not be separated nor not to be confused since it has a common definition, context, purpose, and meaning???
Q4?... Does the Bible (Scripture) teaches that the word JUSTIFICATION can/should/must be applied solely to Christ Jesus... while... SANCTIFICATION can/should/must be applied solely to the Christians (Spiritually Born Again) but with still weak FLESH????
Q5?... Is this Biblically TRUTH taught by Christ Jesus or Man's Doctrine of interpretation?????

No the scripture explicitly teaches that we ARE justified - we have the righteousness of God which is the faith OF Jesus Christ, by faith(Ro 3:22). The attributes of the new creation/new man are - wisdom, redemption, righteousness, sanctification 1 Cor 1:30. The narrator has it wrong by saying sanctification is a process, he didn't demonstrate that at all, it's no where in scripture. It's just Calvinist rhetoric.

2:06 "unable to do what's truly good". You should clarify that point, as it seems to make the error of denying that anyone who is not a Christian can do something that is really good. That would contradict Scripture which teaches that each person is made in the image of God and may be moved by the influence of the Spirit of God to do real good from a proper attitude of heart, as in Romans 2. 13-16, and in the story of the GOOD Samaritan, who was not in God's covenant people but did good out of true compassion. The point should be, not that no Christian can do actual good, but only that they cannot arrive at perfect goodness and full acceptance with God into filial relationship and eternal life until united to Christ by faith. So, they can do some real good, but cannot be good enough. Those who charge that everything a non-Christian does is only sin are denying the reaity, and effectively calling good evil. Or do you mean to say that Christ is already the source of the good that a non-Christian does? That would make more sense, but you would have to bring that out at the point that you use the phrase "apart from Christ".

It's really pretty simple trust. Christ, not yourself, he will fix you.
In ultimately, will it with him in heaven? Not because what you have done. But because what he has done, it's a free gift, so none of us may boast.
