    I watched this video because I needed to wrap my palm trees. The ice storm a couple weeks ago in Texas did a job on them. I sure could use a neighbor like you. My wife would think I'm a genius putting something like that up. I'm going to use heat tap and hope for the best. Great video!!!!!

    I'm so glad I don't have to do this to all my palms over 60 off multiple species ,mostly trachycarpus and chamaerops but also have brahae armatas and butias
    Over 40 are in the ground and the rest are in pots which I put in my shed ,green house and conservatory

    What would the estimated price for wrapping a palm be? (Like, materials and stuff)

    How big is the root system on these trees? Are they known to get into the sewer and/or water lines?

    The whole purpose of having a good cold hardy palm is that you shouldn’t have to go to extremes to protect it in the winter…just saying!

    I live in Knoxville, TN zone 7. I have a windmill palm planted by my pool. Do you think I will need to protect my tree here? The lowest it usually gets here is 7F and that happens 3-4 nights in January.

      I always think it's better to protect them than to not. Your tree can possibly survive but there is no guarantee it will... I think it is always safer to wrap it...

      Lol, I'm just right down the road from you in Clinton Tn. I did the same thing and planted 2 windmill palms by my pool. This will be the first winter I've had them. Hopefully they make it through.

    So what is the practical plan when the tree grows to and above 20'?

      We wrapped a 22 ft windmill with our new system.. we used scuffling to get to the top.... you can see our new system on my website ... www.islandwidepalmtrees.com/palm-cover.html

      That is an impressive system. Good job. The one thing that I would suggest ( and I am not an expert by any means) is as you increase in height, you may want to change the shape of the enclosure from square to cylindrical in order to reduce the wind load on the tree and stress to the trunk and root system. The additional weight of the enclosure and the broad flat sides presents a larger force on the trunk and root system in moderate to high winds than the tree may be able to accommodate. Just a friendly observation :-)

    I was wondering how INFRARED HEAT LAPMS would work to PROTECT PALMS during winters? These are light/heat sources that do not emit visible light, they emit infrared light which heats the object directly, and it doesn't heat the air between. So they're extremely efficient. Does anyone know anything about using these to protect palms? In theory, it seems these heaters would be fantastic for growing palms way outside their normal USDA Zone range.

      How is the tree doing this winter? Any cold or snow damage?

    • @islandwidepalmtrees1412
      @islandwidepalmtrees1412  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      the tree is doing great... the most important thing is to keep the crown from getting wet.. I have sold hundreds of these tree up here in NY for the past 6 years... I never had a tree die that was properly protected..including the 2 worst winters we just had in 2014 and 2015.

    • @camoronL

      Only when it's cold enough outside to risk damage to the tree. I would turn them on when the outside temp drops below 20 degrees F.
