When I saw the adorned tree stumps on Sanibel, I told my husband I want a stump I could put my shells on. Guess what, I'm still waiting! Maybe for Christmas, hope springs eternal! Great walk thanks for free therapy (beach time).
I loved the stump and the little baby horse conch. I always thoughroly enjoy your videos. You give us a variety of things to see. You always make me feel a little closer to my family that lives there and goes to some of the same beaches! So thank you so much.
I loved the dead tree with the shells on it and the orchid in the tree! My goodness I do hope to get over to Lover's Key sometime soon. Thank you for this great video.😊
Awesome as usual. You’ll have to go back one day and snorkel. One thing I’ve learnt from your videos is that the calico scallops come in all different designs on them which is so cool. Almost like a snowflake, no 2 match. So cool. Thank you for another great walk!!😊🐬
Hi beach friend, Thank you for taking me with you on your walks, I really appreciate it!😘 The shells are gorgeous as always!❤ Love the tree with all the shells and especially the one with the orchid. But I'm afraid it won't live long near the salt water. Hopefully I'm wrong. 😉 Yippee, another kayak adventure next week! Can't wait! Wishing you a wonderful week without severe storms and lightning. Sending you lots of love and hugs from the Netherlands xoxo ❤
It's a bit of a walk to get to those trees but I just love that part of the beach at Lover's Key. Actually there are tons of orchids at the home down here at the beach, so I'm thinking that orchid just might be okay. I'll check on it the next time I'm there! We should be getting some more rain but as long as I don't have to move outdoor furniture inside I'm quite happy! I found so many awesome goodies when I went kayaking - can't wait to share! Hope all is well by you and you have good week! 🐚❤️
The tree stump is a joy to behold. And that orchid will do fine in that tree hollow. Safe, rain water and moisture laden air to help it grow. I hope its still there by next year.
Oh man! I just want to live in Florida! Gorgeous beaches, beautiful shells, palm trees, great seafood and an amazing Governor! This PA girl is super jealous!!
Wouldn't be exciting to get another large horse conch. I guess that is once in a life time. Great find on the alphabet cone shell. Looking forward to your next video.
Oh I hope I get to find another one of those giant horse conchs or even a big lightning whelk. It's so thrilling to find those big shells! I just hope I don't have to search for another 1-1/2 years to find one!! Thanks for coming along Sally!
What a nice walk even if there was rain on the way….shelling is so fun and the stump is pretty with the shells and decor…always look forward to Sun eve to see your videos
I went on a shelling tour which is SO much easier than getting my kayak to the beach. Soon as the weather stops making me leave the beaches in the morning I'll get mine out there and will start doing some more exploring! Thanks so much for coming along!
Love the worm shells and that fighting conch, wow, beautiful swirled colors on that guy! It’s always exciting to find the alphabet cones for me because I never seem to find very many but when I do my heart goes pitter patter! Hope Fred leaves you with many goodies!
Oh I love the cones too! Those alphabet cones are so hard to find in good shape, but I'll keep looking! I'm hoping Fred brings me some good shelling luck too. We shall see!!
Another great day! Love the shell trees, we ran into some like them on the Outer Banks of NC. Olives were definantly on the menu today! Hope the storm washes in lots of treasure for this next weeks’ trip. XOXO
Expecting you to have a spectacular week this week. Saw on the US weather that West Florida is going to be hit with tropical storms this week, oooh lots of churning seas and “beachy goodness!!” You so have to copyright “beachy goodness” thank you for your wonderful videos. Stay safe x
I checked the weather direction last night and it wasn't quite the direction I was hoping for (NW) but still hoping I will find some goodies this week! I don't have very high hopes after seeing what was left after Elsa but we shall see! Hope you have a good week!
I hope you love it here as much as I do! And I hope you find tons of goodies. I've gone to a bunch of great beaches down here so you have your pick of places to visit!!!
Sometimes those handgrabs really pay off. Another beachcomber was on Lighthouse beach near the lighthouse in sort of a tidal pool. She reached down for a handful and pulled up the most gorgeous 6” red horse conch. Happy shelling!
Thank you so much 😊 for making your nice video’s I look forward to see it every week. Actually it fells on Monday morning here with us. I open my TH-cam and there you are with your nice voice to welcome me to a beach walk with you❣️ I also see many shells you don’t see and I want to take them with me 😑😆
It's funny, when I watch other shellers' TH-cam videos I want to take all the shells too! Well I'm glad I can start your week off with some beachy goodness and please know how much I appreciate you coming along with me! I love sharing the gorgeous beaches down here!
Awww I loved Lovers Key and only knew about it thanks to you!! Thank you so much for these videos! We only went to the shelling end we didn’t go to that beautiful end with the trees! Excited to have something to explore for next time!
That part of the island is easy to miss if you don't know it's there. It's my favorite spot, even though the shells are at another part of the beach. Hopefully the Discovery Center will be fully open when you come. It was closed when I visited but that's something else I'd like to check out!
I think you did great for Lover's Key standards. I don't know why, but it seems to be a magnet for worm snails. They just seem to be all over there. Probably due to habitat preferences in nearby waters but I don't know any details. Thanks for sharing!
What I look forward to on Sunday's, our beach walk! Love that Alphabet Cone. Super excited for next weeks episode and you guys have a tropical storm out in the gulf. I hope Fred leaves lots of goodies for you :) I really want to do the Shell Camp in the 10,000 islands. It looks like a sheller's paradise. Stay safe!
I had never heard of Shell Camp and just looked it up. It sounds amazing! I too am curious what these storms will leave behind. We shall see! Hope you have a good week!
I love your beautiful videos and even though I’m from the other side of the pond I’m starting to know the shell names before you say them 😄 Thank you for sharing these treasures us, with love from Scotland 🏴 😍
Hello Scotland Beach Friend! Hey, if you ever get over here, you'll know exactly what kind of treasures you'll be finding. Thanks so much for the lovely comment and thank you so much for watching!
@@SWFBeachLife You’re so very welcome! You deserve it, your vids transport me to such a happy place so thank you once again for all your beachy goodness 😉
As soon as the video started I thought, "That's rough surf." Yeah can't swim well in that. I love our scattered thunder storms. They can vanish and appear out of nowhwere. I like to watch the radar and it's crazy how they just appear. Oh cool. Free orchid for someone that day.
Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing once I could "hear" the water. Ah well, at least I got to spend some time at the beach and find a few goodies. I too have 2 weather apps I depend on, along with my lightning app. Can't be too careful down here. Like you said, the storms will literally pop up out of no where! Hope all is well by you!
@@SWFBeachLife Have you been able to go shelling during red tide? I would think not just because of the awful smell! We have a friend who lives in St. Pete & he’s not gone to the beach all summer.
@@SKC193 Oh what a bummer for them! I live more south than St. Pete, so we haven't had any RT here and with any luck it will stay that way! I've been to the beach when there was a little RT and it will definitely make me cough a little :(
Do be careful when you pick up a large hermit crab.. I bought one as a pet down south long ago. He got my finger with his claw and believe me it really hurt. We got him off my finger with warm running water. He finally let go. It was the only time he clawed me and we had him for years. His name was Peter. He was so beautiful and I loved him. Trudy in PA
We had a few hermit crabs as pets a few years ago. The kids loved them. I try to make sure I pick them up in a way they won't be able to reach around and pinch me. I've been lucky so far - I hope my luck continues! Thanks for telling me about Peter! 🦀
I can just about guess which day this was because of the high tide time. It was probably the same day I went in the rain up here - lots of west wind and high tide. Couldn't even get halfway up to the end of Honeymoon! Was walking with dead critters everywhere. Did come home with a pretty nice lightning whelk though. Happy to say the RT is much better. Will see what happens with the storms. The part of Lover's Key you like is very picturesque. That's another spot I need to visit! Thanks, Sharmon! xxoo
This was a Tuesday - with my new work schedule I'm a little more constricted on when I can get out but I was so hoping to find some goodies snorkeling. Oh well! Good to hear RT is abating. Hopefully with these storms coming through it will be gone once and for all! We got so lucky so far - hope our luck continues and the RT stays away! XOXOXO
Have you shelled on Anna Maria Island? When I was there a few years back, I remember seeing a bunch of sand dollars. I will be going there in October and was wondering what shelling was like at this time of the year. Thanks for another fun video!
I have no been to Anna Maria Island yet! It looks like a good day trip type of place for me so hopefully one of these days I'll get up there. I ALWAYS find sand dollars at Marco Island. I hope when you go you'll find a little of everything you're looking for! 🐚
Love watching your videos and that you name all the shells. I am in SW Cape Coral FL here but where do you think the best place to shell in SW Florda is? I normally go to blind pass area but by boat and just started going to Marco and the Ten Thousand Islands - love any beach time I can get. Thank you for sharing your finds!
There are great places all over but I honestly have not found one particular place that was better than the rest. It all depends! That being said, I would think you could increase your great shell chances by hitting islands that are only accessible by boat. North Captiva, Cayo Costa - definitely 10,000 islands. I hope you have a great time exploring!!! 🐚
I went to lover's key one time and I didn't know to go south I walked North all the way and I didn't find nothing 😭 😂 it's still on my list of places to go back to
Well, better safe than sorry. It's no fun shelling when you're worried about getting zapped by lightning! Hope you get to make it once the weather calms down!
Wanted to let you know that I found an olive shell with a crab in it! I have found hundreds and this was the first inhabited one ( not inhabited by original owner!). I know you have mentioned in a few videos that you always find them empty. So just wanted to share
Before Hurricane Charley there were more trees on the beach...and one in the water by the shore that we enjoyed at the north end about a hundred yards before the bend
I went shelling today with 2 of my adult daughters. We checked shells for critters and yet still managed to come home with 6 tiny crazy crabs in shells... 5 didn't make it and 1 has gone back to the beach.... I was devastated. This is the first time it has ever happened to me.... :(
Oh what a bummer! It's happened to me too - even after checking really well but I live close enough that I can get them back to the beach without too much trouble. I'm so sorry. It's crazy how tiny some of those critters are.
Did you know there is a guy that they let into Lovers Key beach to hunt for shells before they open it to the public lol. He sells them I guess. I’m not sure of the entire story. My wife and I was just there for two weeks. We left last night. And drove 23 hours straight home. I tired looking for you on the beach there and Sanibel lol.
You know I think I've heard about that guy that gets in before the beach opens! I need to figure out how to get that deal for myself 😅 Sorry we didn't run into each other but maybe next time ☺️ I've done a 22-1/2 hour straight through drive and it was the first and last time I didn't stop. It's pretty brutal but hope you had a safe trip and enjoyed your time down here in SWFL!
There are snails known as "drills" like a mauve mouth drill or an oyster drill that will "drill" holes in other shells. Then the shark eye is another snail that definitely drills holes in other snails - and a lot of the time they drill holes in other shark eyes! It's a snail eat snail world out there!
I get asked that question a lot!! I show at the end of this video some of the things we've done with shells: th-cam.com/video/d7SmDUcvdjU/w-d-xo.html And then in this video, I finally got around to making a shell mirror I had been wanting to make: th-cam.com/video/Mf5SVm8m5n8/w-d-xo.html I have a few more projects I'd like to tackle - i just need to find the time!!!
Yes, I hold the camera in one hand and shell with the other. I am so picky about how I video that I want to have control over it instead of just putting a camera on my head and walking around - LOL!
Turkey wings are bivalves, like a scallop, so they have 2 shells to enclose their squishy bodies. I don't believe I've ever found a hinged or attached turkey wing, but when they're alive, there are 2 shells to those critters.
Hi! I love your channel, but I get really nervous when you pick up cone shells, especially from under the water. Their sting is venomous and they are predatory. Please be careful. I grew up in Florida and learned from the old timers to give cones a wide berth.
Luckily down here the cones aren't deadly. They will give you a little sting, but they won't KILL you like some of the other varieties. I've never found a live once since they typically live in deep water but I promise I'll be careful! Thanks so much for your concern and passing along the info!!
Hi! Thanks for taking us along with you this week. Take care!
Thank you! You too!
Love our Sunday walks. When we spent a week in Sanibel/Ft Meyers Lovers Key was our favorite.... 195 days and I am there again.☺
It's hard for me to pick a favorite, but if it's definitely top 3 for me. I'll keep taking you to the beach with me while you wait to return! 🐚
Hi beach friend...thanks for the video

I'll be happy if I don't have to move furniture around for Grace!!
Before Hurricane Charley there were more trees on the beach...and one in the water by the shore that we enjoyed at the north end about a hundred yards before the bend
I'm wondering if these trees survived hurricane Ian. I haven't heard anything yet.
When you did the hand scoop for the topsnails, was that an auger that you scooped out of your hand?
That was a worm snail. Looks like an auger, but they are a bit wider and not quite as sturdy as the augers 🤗
We are making our first trip to the northern end of sanibel the first week of October. How is the shelling that time of year?
October last year is the month I realized the shells were back. I was in Marco Island, but October should be decent for shelling 🤞🏻
If you hold it up to the sun it becomes visible.
* Question: What drills holes in the shells? I know they do it for food. But which creature does it??
There are snails known as "drills" like a mauve mouth drill or an oyster drill that will "drill" holes in other shells. Then the shark eye is another snail that definitely drills holes in other snails - and a lot of the time they drill holes in other shark eyes! It's a snail eat snail world out there!
What do you do with the shells you find?
I get asked that question a lot!! I show at the end of this video some of the things we've done with shells: th-cam.com/video/d7SmDUcvdjU/w-d-xo.html
And then in this video, I finally got around to making a shell mirror I had been wanting to make: th-cam.com/video/Mf5SVm8m5n8/w-d-xo.html
I have a few more projects I'd like to tackle - i just need to find the time!!!
I watch your video, go to the beach and hardly find some shells 😭
Not all beaches are made equally and I think most of the shells are down here in Southwest Florida! 🐚
@@SWFBeachLife hmm need to visit . Just love watching your videos
So are you having to hold your camera/go pro as you're shelling? Typically see you one handing things
Yes, I hold the camera in one hand and shell with the other. I am so picky about how I video that I want to have control over it instead of just putting a camera on my head and walking around - LOL!
How can I get onto Fort Myers’s beach?
There's street access every few blocks the entire island. It's all paid parking but there's plenty of places to choose from!
@@SWFBeachLife Thank you so much for the information!
Is the turkey wing alway 2 sided or is that why it’s called a turkey wing?
Turkey wings are bivalves, like a scallop, so they have 2 shells to enclose their squishy bodies. I don't believe I've ever found a hinged or attached turkey wing, but when they're alive, there are 2 shells to those critters.
Or metal detectors allowed on the beach?
They sure are!
