  • Dispersed along the river Kavery, six little islets in a 40-acre area make up one of the most important ecological habitats in Karnataka. Ranganathittu is Karnataka’s largest bird sanctuary. What could be more convenient for water birds than a river with undisturbed islets, to build their nests?
Dr. Salim Ali was the first to observe the precious value of Ranganathittu as a breeding ground for migratory birds. Even in 1930s, he realised the need to protect this corner on the bank of River Kaveri for generations of birds to come. He urged the then King of Mysore, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar to protect this space. In 1940, Ranganathittu became a protected reserve. Thanks to the efforts of these visionaries.

Excellent commentary Rahul Aravind. Planning a trip to Ranganathittu in the last week of February. You have a great voice, great diction and superb accent. The videography is top notch. The way you have filmed the birds in slow motion is out of this world. Soft lilting music in the background lends a touch of class to the video. Bravo!

    • @RahulAravind

Yes it is. Jan/Feb is good time to visit. In fact this video was shot in these months. Wait till the sunset, when all the birds fly back to theirs nests. You will see a plethora of birds in and around the sanctuary in this golden hour. That is worth watching.

Its narrated by Srihari Melkote for the words written by Gowri Subramanya. That was an awesome collaboration.
Yes. All the footages belongs to me. I used a BMPC camera + Tamron 150-600mm for most of the shots and a 5D Mark3 + Sigma 24-70 for some shots.
