    My dad used to make this. Last month I finally found a store in Dallas that sells the Cod fish and yam. Lord have mercy, I had this with the yam and plantains with boil egg for breakfast. So delicious!!!!!!!! My 11 y.o. said to me, mom, please teach me how to cook Haitian food, a little tear came to my eyes, lol. So proud!!!!!!

    I got plantains, green peppers, tomato paste, onion, and fresh cod fish and when driving home I remembered my parents soaking cod overnight so realized I got the wrong thing for this dish. Thanks for the video. Will fry the fresh cod and go looking for the proper dried salted cod to make this dish for the first time.

    Omg, I ate something similar to Mori, with bread this morning for breakfast!
    What we usually make it's called brule Jhol; we wash and clean the saltfish in the same way, shred it into a bowl, then add diced tomatoes, green and red bellpeppers, onions, chives or green onions, freshly crushed garlic, diced hot peppers, blackpepper, freshly squeezed lime or lemon juice, salt and olive oil, give it a good mix and it's ready to be served with boiled and fried green cooking bananas, tubers, dumplings or bread; very delicious!
    Another dish that we make is called "tomato n saltfish", wash and clean the saltfish in the same way then lightly fried it then "add to the pot" some sliced onions, crushed garlic, and diced hot peppers, stir often so the saltfish doesn't get burned, when the onions etc are lightly browned then add the chopped tomatoes, chives or green onions, blackpepper and salt, stir and cover it to cook in its own juices; if the tomatoes doesn't have enough juice you can add little water but DO NOT WATER IT DOWN! You can serve this also with the above. These are foods from the Caribbean so we all cook the same things 😊😊😊😊

    • @dorannette26
      @dorannette26  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, after you peel it you squeeze some lime juice over it, that will prevent it from getting black. On the video of my mom making fish and yam. She demonstrated how to boil yam.

    What do you do if it’s to salty?

    • @dorannette26
      @dorannette26  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      toya cadet .. before you add it to the oil.. You should have removed the majority of the salt. After you boil it, place it in a bowl of cool water, breaking them into medium-sized sized pieces. This allows you to remove more salt but You don't want to remove all the salt, so taste it. I hope this help6

    The best way to get rid of the salt is to leave it in the cold water for 24 hours. Boiling salted fish wouldn't not be healthier since too much salt in our system is correlated to high blood pressure in many communities.

    • @dorannette26
      @dorannette26  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can soak over night, but if you want to eat it right away. You can rinse it under cold water, removing the salt off the fish. Then Boiling it for a few minutes, changing the water ones or twice, depending on the amount of salt you want to remove. This is the method I have been using for years! The fish is not salty, as a matter of fact, if your not careful, you can end up removing all of the salt.

      It is more then believing in the gospel! Many believers will not enter the Kingdom Of God! 1. Repent ( turning from the sins, that separating us from Christ) 2. Confess that Jesus Christ is Lord , giving Him Lordship over your life. 3. Pursuing holiness & righteousness (Without righteousness no man or woman will see Christ).
