way back against the silverback gorilla, Bell had like ~ 600 agility (does anyone know what his other stats were at?) when Hestia updated his status, which was enough for him to defeat it, with Hestia's Knife then, thanks to Ais' training, his stats got increased even more... (does anyone know his stat amounts from Ais' training, but before or at the start of his fight with the Minotaur King?) and then, from the Minotaur King fight, his stats got increased to from the above poster's stats of: clvl: 1 strength: 982 (S) endurance: 900 (S) dexterity: 988 (S) agility: 1049 (SS) intelligence (magic): 751 (B) and as soon as Hestia updates Bell, he'll be at clvl 2, likely with maybe half lowered stats, whereas most end up with completely reset/zero (or close to it) in their stats when they level up, likely due to their previous stats not being that high -------- S ranked stats are extremely rare, "unheard of", almost no adventurer, ever gets any stats up to rank S, at any clvl, even not at clvl 1, so this is why Bell having all S rank stats (at clvl 1), and even the "stat-breaking" SS agility stat of his, laughs, was shocking to the Loki Familia members, lol -------- clvl: 1-10 // most likely 10 is the max clvl possible clvls are massive power boosts, generally far more potent than stat levels, except for extremely high stats which can put one on par with another adventurer of one (maybe two) higher clvl(s) -------- Stats (strength, endurance, dexterity, agility, and intelligence): 0-999 (lowest/weakest) 000-099: I rank 100-199: H rank 200-299: G rank 300-399: F rank 400-499: E rank 500-599: D rank 600-699: C rank 700-799: B rank 800-899: A rank 900-999: S rank (highest/strongest) and then we got Bell's agility stat at clvl 1, after beating the Minotaur King: 1000+: SS rank
A few things to note if you don’t know already with how ahead you guys are since the anime doesn’t give the details it was suppose to: Riveria said he had a bad matchup with firebolt because the strength of magic in danmachi is directly proportional to the length of the incantation. Since the minotaur had tough skin, the speed of casting the spell wasn’t very beneficial. Stats cannot be updated by themselves inside the dungeon. It’s not just visual. So no matter how much you grind, you won’t get an increase in power until your goddess updates your status. It is exponentially harder to increase your stats the higher you get them in your level. For example, it could take 8 years to get all your stats to C600 but then it would take another decade to get them to S900. And stats all give the same power when earned within the same level so it seems hardly worth the time. Stats in the next levels are worth much more than those in the previous. Rather than waste their life grinding that for a future benefit that they will probably not even reach, most adventurers choose to get the instant stat bonus from a level up and then be able to grind their more powerful level 2 stats. The executives of Loki Familia were shocked to learn that Bell had all stats S because most adventurers aim to get one ability in rank C or D before ranking up and high rank adventurers like themselves aim to get 1 stat to rank S before their rank up (cause they’re built different and can do that in only a few years). Then, think about how it took Bell only 1 month to go from basically all stats at I and struggling in the beginning floors to getting all S stats (well actually SS and SSS stats) and beating a minotaur, a monster that’s classified at the strength of a level 2. But because Bells the main character, he got that 20x multiplier from his skill that he got when Aiz saved him at the start of the series, Liaris Freese. In the wiki, it’s defined as quote “Fast growth as long as the user is in love. The strength of the effects corresponds with the level of the user's feelings. As a side effect it makes the user immune to charms.”
one note is in the world they are in you only need one skill in around D or C to be able to level up, you just need that big fight/moment, and most want to level up fast so they get an instant stat boost, but if you grind to get your stats to A or s/ss ect (which gets harder to get the exp the higher the rank since the fights mean less) then when you level up the stats get a boost (so a level 1 with S Rank stats can put up a fight to a mid level 2 who didn't train the stats more, hence why they where surprised he could fight a minotaur which should be out of his level to fight)
In danmachi you only get stronger when you update your status. So bell had all abilities on S while fighting the minotaur. And defeating it was the feat that lets him level up to level 2 in his next status update
I want to clarify something that others have been saying - s rank stat of 999 is the highest stat you can get. Bell had stats ss and sss 1100-1200. This breaks the all the known rules to leveling. Every other adventurer can only get a theoritical 999 s rank stat.
the grimoire bell used in a previous scene before that you saw freyja pulling a book from a shelf and if i recall it looked similar so odds are she set it up for bell to get and now like you said she had the minotaur trained for bell ~ so while shes quite obsessive shes also constantly helping bell/ / edit: just incase - in this world you gain stats by doing however to level you need to do a feat worthy of being recognized by the gods so to speak and when you level all your current stats are saved then you show new stats from and work on those however you add up previous stats and current to figure out what your true values would be so those "all S" are ranking what his stats are at level 1
I know you're ahead but think of a level up as a limit break, the difference between a level is pretty important because of that. For example lets say you went to level 2 at 800 STR, it resets back to 0 but you keep the 800, and so you keep fighting until you have 400 str, you technically have 1200 now, so if you fight a level one for example who has 600 you're going to ragdoll them. Likewise a level 3 would widen the gap even more and so on. However to level in the first place it requires you to perform some feat that even the gods would admire, not only did Bell defeat a stronger enemy here but even more importantly he conquered his fear of minotaurs that he got from episode 1 when he literally got traumatized by one.
At the start of the episode, Bell is looking at a notice about Ais reaching her next level. There is a spin off of Danmachi called Sword Oratoria which has Ais as the main character and the member of the Loki familia. If I remember correctly, you can watch that boss fight and her leveling up by watching the spin off.
It wasnt so much the fight, though that might have helped, it was the week's worth of sparring he did with Ais combined with the effects of his one skill that put all his stats way up there. It's why Hestia was trying to get Bell to stay so she could talk to him about she found.
Bell's stats are very high due to his 'Liaris Freese' ability ("fast growth, based on feelings, which is his feelings for Ais, specifically, catching up to Ais' power level), with his always top stat being agility. No other adventurer can achieve Bell's stat levels, especially at the speed/time that Bell is able to raise them, all due to his 'Liaris Freese' ability however, even with high stats, and killing tons of monsters, all of that, actually has nothing to do with leveling up, as that has one requirement and one requirement only: doing the impossible ("going an adventure"), to lvl up, you must do what you can't do at your power lvl (character level and stats and abilities), the "Minotaur King" (that Ottarl, clvl 7, the highest clvl of all current adventurers, as the captain/leader of Freya's Familia) was far out of Bell's league, with Bell being a mere clvl 1, yet Bell somehow managed to win (literally, just won with a hair's breadth from his own death, as he had to use all of his magic power, with his firebolts, leaving him in the "mind down" state, completely disabled and helpless, if Bell hadn't killed the Minotaur King, Bell would have been dead, helpless in his "mind down" state), and that is what/how Bell lvled up to clvl 2, and due to his fight with the Minotaur, when Riveria checked Bell's stats, they were all S level, with the exception of agility, being SS level (which has never been seen before), due to them increased from his fight with the minotaur king, while Bell is still at clvl 1 (he needs to have his status updated, before he becomes clvl 2, which will happen just a little later on), and it's the same with Ais too, she was stuck at clvl 5, until she was "inspired" by Bell's rapid growth in power, and thus she went and did the impossible too, taking on the floor (37) boss ("monster rex", rex = king = "boss") Udaeus (the big skeleton warrior guy, "spartoi" = skeleton warrior), all by herself, solo, and in winning, she became clvl 6, finally caught up to Loki's 3 captains/leaders (all clvl 6): Finn Deimne, Gareth Landrock, and Riveria Ljos Alf, and afterwards, when she and Riveria continued to go up to the surface, that's when they met a "mind down" Bell (his first time, before his minotaur king fight in this episode, when he was just trying out his firebolt spell for the first time, with Ais staying behind, with Bell, until his magic restored, and he regained consciousness Ais had the record of time going from clvl 1 to clv 2, in a mere year to do so, but Bell, has just broken that record, as he's now clvl 2, in like ~ 3-6 (too lazy to look it up, can't remember it) months of time has passed since episode 1... this is why Ais is inspired by Bell's growth (with Bell not realizing that Ais is inspired by he, as he aspires to be as strong as Ais, laughs, they both don't realize that they're impressed and pushed, by each other, getting themselves stronger, because of it, because of each other) when you level up, that's a massive power boost, and usually, your stats drop back down some (or even to zero), as you're now a new (character) level, and much more powerful it's likely, clvl 10 is the max possible, the highest (and only, well, maybe there's one other as well) current adventurer's clvl, is 7, Ottarl, the captain of Freya's Familia (he's the one who upgraded the minotaur into a minotaur king that bell just fought against), there's a lot of current adventurers at clvl 6 (including now just recently with Ais, with her beating the Udaeus on floor 37 all by herself), but "only" Ottarl (and again, maybe one other) is at clvl 7, of the current adventurers, though in the past, there were two adventurers that were even higher clvl than that of 7, at clvl 8 and clvl 9... ------------------ minotaurs are dlvl 15-17, which Bell has not yet been down that far in the dungeon yet the silverback gorilla that Bell fought up on the surface (released by Freya) is a dlvl 11-12 monster, btw who knows how powerful the "minotaur king" was/is, that Ottarl (under Freya's orders) created for Bell to fight, though, any of Loki's higher clvl (4-6) characters, could take it on easily, of course, but Bell is a mere clvl 1, which makes his victory so much more incredible, that's he that strong, despite being a mere clvl 1, grins (even Bete, sees Bell's power level, and is annoyed by it, laughs. Bete is actually a really good guy, but being a wolf, he's got a lot of pride and bluntness, which causes him to come off as a d-bag, but he really isn't at all)
Argonaut, just built diffetent... 🤕 "I ain't hear no Bell-kun" To level up you rise above your limits and you solo the impossible. You can adventure forever with no gains unless you are pushing yourself.
his stats are all at S rank except his agi which was set to SS, most poeple get a A and very few get S, bell went above the normal limits in his agi, and if he can keep doing that it will stack every level up. as once you do your Status pge resets to E(i think( but the stat are still there as hidden numbers.
Bell has almost maxed out stats for a level 1, even so a minotaur should normally still be too much for a level 1 to handle (especially since the one he fought was actually trained up by someone to be stronger than a regular). There was a very real chance he would lose and die, which is what made it "an adventure". Most of the strong adventurers, like the Loki familia Ais is part of, try to calculate the amount of strength needed to clear a part of the dungeon and ensure to deploy forces that would be able to overcome that, thus mitigating the risk of their familia members dying. That is the smart thing to do but it loses some essence of being an adventure because there is less adversity and uncertainty. The group watching Bell is full of top level adventurers, and seeing him struggle and overcome the odds reminded them of their roots before they became so strong and forgot what it's like to have to surpass their limits.
The level system is not explained very well in the anime but if they explain it in the light novels they all have a "state" (the tattoo on their back) that is divided into 5 skills: strength, endurance, dexterity, agility and magic ( only if you can use it) and each skill is divided into ten ranges "I", "H", "G", "F", "E", "D", "C", "B", "A", "S" with "I" being the lowest and "S" the highest these ranges improve based on experience points that you acquire in battles inside the dungeon and it is the gods who raise those experience points by shedding a drop of blood on the adventurer's status each rank rises every 100 points: "I" (0 to 99), "H" (100 to 199) ... "S" (900 to 999) that is at most what can be reached but this is reset every time an adventurer passes level, bell was level 1 with all of the stats in "S", now he is level 2, so all of his skills will return to "I" - 0
The anime didn't spend that much time explaining how the ability rank works unfortunately, and in the novel all abilities were S except for one being SS but Ais, who was the one reading them, didn't said it out loud. But I'm always a little bit annoyed when the author crafted a very interesting world and lore, only to ruin part of the immersion with a ranking system straight from a gatcha game. A ranking system based on roman alphabet letter and order could make sense since their letters looks like ours (even if a little to convenient to my taste), but then they also have that S above A nonsense, with SS and SSS too). After all, the letter system is unofficial, only used by the adventurers to categorize ability points (S = 999

I mean AFAIK Realis Freese scales infinitely (in theory), so he can basically speedrun any% all that shit

however, even with high stats, and killing tons of monsters, all of that, actually has nothing to do with leveling up, as that has one requirement and one requirement only: doing the impossible ("going an adventure"), to lvl up, you must do what you can't do at your power lvl (character level and stats and abilities), the "Minotaur King" (that Ottarl, clvl 7, the highest clvl of all current adventurers, as the captain/leader of Freya's Familia) was far out of Bell's league, with Bell being a mere clvl 1, yet Bell somehow managed to win (literally, just won with a hair's breadth from his own death, as he had to use all of his magic power, with his firebolts, leaving him in the "mind down" state, completely disabled and helpless, if Bell hadn't killed the Minotaur King, Bell would have been dead, helpless in his "mind down" state), and that is what/how Bell lvled up to clvl 2, and due to his fight with the Minotaur, when Riveria checked Bell's stats, they were all S level, with the exception of agility, being SS level (which has never been seen before), due to them increased from his fight with the minotaur king, while Bell is still at clvl 1 (he needs to have his status updated, before he becomes clvl 2, which will happen just a little later on), and it's the same with Ais too, she was stuck at clvl 5, until she was "inspired" by Bell's rapid growth in power, and thus she went and did the impossible too, taking on the floor (37) boss ("monster rex", rex = king = "boss") Udaeus (the big skeleton warrior guy, "spartoi" = skeleton warrior), all by herself, solo, and in winning, she became clvl 6, finally caught up to Loki's 3 captains/leaders (all clvl 6): Finn Deimne, Gareth Landrock, and Riveria Ljos Alf, and afterwards, when she and Riveria continued to go up to the surface, that's when they met a "mind down" Bell (his first time, before his minotaur king fight in this episode, when he was just trying out his firebolt spell for the first time, with Ais staying behind, with Bell, until his magic restored, and he regained consciousness
Ais had the record of time going from clvl 1 to clv 2, in a mere year to do so, but Bell, has just broken that record, as he's now clvl 2, in like ~ 3-6 (too lazy to look it up, can't remember it) months of time has passed since episode 1... this is why Ais is inspired by Bell's growth (with Bell not realizing that Ais is inspired by he, as he aspires to be as strong as Ais, laughs, they both don't realize that they're impressed and pushed, by each other, getting themselves stronger, because of it, because of each other)
when you level up, that's a massive power boost, and usually, your stats drop back down some (or even to zero), as you're now a new (character) level, and much more powerful
it's likely, clvl 10 is the max possible, the highest (and only, well, maybe there's one other as well) current adventurer's clvl, is 7, Ottarl, the captain of Freya's Familia (he's the one who upgraded the minotaur into a minotaur king that bell just fought against), there's a lot of current adventurers at clvl 6 (including now just recently with Ais, with her beating the Udaeus on floor 37 all by herself), but "only" Ottarl (and again, maybe one other) is at clvl 7, of the current adventurers, though in the past, there were two adventurers that were even higher clvl than that of 7, at clvl 8 and clvl 9...

the silverback gorilla that Bell fought up on the surface (released by Freya) is a dlvl 11-12 monster, btw
who knows how powerful the "minotaur king" was/is, that Ottarl (under Freya's orders) created for Bell to fight, though, any of Loki's higher clvl (4-6) characters, could take it on easily, of course, but Bell is a mere clvl 1, which makes his victory so much more incredible, that's he that strong, despite being a mere clvl 1, grins
(even Bete, sees Bell's power level, and is annoyed by it, laughs. Bete is actually a really good guy, but being a wolf, he's got a lot of pride and bluntness, which causes him to come off as a d-bag, but he really isn't at all)

his stats are all at S rank except his agi which was set to SS, most poeple get a A and very few get S, bell went above the normal limits in his agi, and if he can keep doing that it will stack every level up. as once you do your Status pge resets to E(i think( but the stat are still there as hidden numbers.
Freya has the same hair color as one other girl that Bell knows. 🤔

Bell has almost maxed out stats for a level 1, even so a minotaur should normally still be too much for a level 1 to handle (especially since the one he fought was actually trained up by someone to be stronger than a regular). There was a very real chance he would lose and die, which is what made it "an adventure". Most of the strong adventurers, like the Loki familia Ais is part of, try to calculate the amount of strength needed to clear a part of the dungeon and ensure to deploy forces that would be able to overcome that, thus mitigating the risk of their familia members dying. That is the smart thing to do but it loses some essence of being an adventure because there is less adversity and uncertainty. The group watching Bell is full of top level adventurers, and seeing him struggle and overcome the odds reminded them of their roots before they became so strong and forgot what it's like to have to surpass their limits.
Probably still the most epic fight in the entire series!!
The level system is not explained very well in the anime but if they explain it in the light novels they all have a "state" (the tattoo on their back) that is divided into 5 skills: strength, endurance, dexterity, agility and magic ( only if you can use it) and each skill is divided into ten ranges "I", "H", "G", "F", "E", "D", "C", "B", "A", "S" with "I" being the lowest and "S" the highest these ranges improve based on experience points that you acquire in battles inside the dungeon and it is the gods who raise those experience points by shedding a drop of blood on the adventurer's status each rank rises every 100 points: "I" (0 to 99), "H" (100 to 199) ... "S" (900 to 999) that is at most what can be reached but this is reset every time an adventurer passes level, bell was level 1 with all of the stats in "S", now he is level 2, so all of his skills will return to "I" - 0
Honestly, it needs to be said in every episode Ryuu-san appears: Ryuu-san is best girl. Nobody else comes close.
The anime didn't spend that much time explaining how the ability rank works unfortunately, and in the novel all abilities were S except for one being SS but Ais, who was the one reading them, didn't said it out loud.
But I'm always a little bit annoyed when the author crafted a very interesting world and lore, only to ruin part of the immersion with a ranking system straight from a gatcha game. A ranking system based on roman alphabet letter and order could make sense since their letters looks like ours (even if a little to convenient to my taste), but then they also have that S above A nonsense, with SS and SSS too).
After all, the letter system is unofficial, only used by the adventurers to categorize ability points (S = 999
