US music industry is no longer profitable for the vocalists because of streaming service paying fraction of pennies per single to the artist. Last I'll mention even though there are a ton more factors. Success in the US over the last decade is now based on personality. It's the "Kardashian" effect. It clearly visible by who the top 10 US vocalists are. They are on top because of social media. Talent is not a prerequisite for success atm. Who's fault is it? Everyone that uses social media and seeks out these personalities. Every interaction is viewed as positive even if the interaction is insulting the person of interest. Billie Eilish made a fraction of what Mariah Carey made at the same period in both careers. However none music contracts made her wealth explode. This is a nuanced issue.
