    Electrical system/layout is awesome. 1400 watts is the way to go. Love that back porch too. I want to do that but make the center lift out so I can get to the garage easier and load/unload stuff faster. You guys knocked this build out of the park.

      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the compliments! Especially for the fur babies 🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺! We are loving the mini split as well as all the other decisions/changes based on what we had in our camper. Since we sold everything we are taking some time to just enjoy traveling and not work. But soon we will be applying for jobs. I was a teacher so I will apply to teach fully online, and Hunter did electronics/solar/batteries and all that professionally so we are throwing around the idea of him doing that for other people on their builds. We are also hoping if we keep working on TH-cam videos that we can eventually get some income that way.

    First of all I love your beautiful pups and would love to hear about the homemade dog food. The inside is perfect...I love the indirect lighting and the air conditioning unit, it reminds me when I lived in Bahrain because that was the first time I had ever seen that type of unit. The bus is really long 36ft is that a typical school bus length also did you need a specific drivers license? Love all the storage, the wood is beautiful. This is by far my favorite skoolie home.

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments about the bus and especially our fur babies! We really appreciate you taking the time to write something so kind. Yes 36ft is a normal school bus length, and in most states in the US you do not need a special driver's license to drive one.

    Your bus build is very well planned and executed, very impressive. I am interested in maybe swapping out my Thetford flush toilet for the Seperette Dry toilet in my Roadtrek Zion van. Have you been pleased with it as compared to the traditional wet flush in your travel trailer? I enjoy your videos.

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally recommend the Separett toilet. It is absolutely amazing. No odor, no emptying a urine jug, and no wasted water or black tank

  • @gordonstewart5774
    @gordonstewart5774 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So many smart decisions! Impressive!
    You mentioned "diesel heat", is that only used when driving?
    How does it work?

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use it when we are not driving and it uses diesel directly from our fuel tank to heat the bus. If we need heat in the bus, we use the heat from the mini split when plugged in, and we use the diesel heater when we are off grid (which is usually the case). We used it when the evenings in CO got below freezing and it worked very well. It doesn't have the cute ambiance that our cubic mini wood stove had in our camper, but it heats the bus MUCH better.

    • @gordonstewart5774
      @gordonstewart5774 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutsideAndOffgrid Excellent! The mini split is better at cooling, thus you mounted it high. Amazed at the "yacht-like quality" of your systems, their "invisible" wiring/plumbing, and finishes.

    Super build. Kudos. I'm just getting started on my build and I can see that from the choices you've made concerning your build, we obviously think alike. Would you mind telling me what brand and model your 12 volt fridge is? Also, I'd love to know if you installed the mini split yourselves.

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love the rope handle's , they don't hurt when you bump into them. I thought you had to live in a state that you registered your RV in?

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, doesn't have to be your home state. Vermont is an easy state to register a bus as a motorhome in. Our home state in Maryland had lots of hoops to jump through. With Vermont you just have to send the bus info and a check. We found instructions this simple process on skoolie.net forums and it worked out perfectly.

    Love the build. I just started my skoolie this month. I live on the eastern shore of Maryland and going to go the Vermont way for registration. I have a 2007 Thomas pusher, I was wandering any tricks on the Vermont registration and where did you get your bus/rv insurance? I currently have RV insurance with Geico on my Fifth wheel RV, but they said they don't cover bus conversions. Thanks in advance.

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations fellow Marylander, that is so exciting! You'll be happy to go with Vermont. So easy. Here is a link for the instructions we followed on an old Skoolie thread for Vermont registration and it worked perfectly for us. www.skoolie.net/forums/f18/how-to-immediately-register-your-bus-as-an-rv-without-conversion-15292.html
      We are struggling a bit with insurance. We currently only have liability only because that's all anyone wants to give out. Many people who have full coverage on their busses are grandfathered in but the insurance companies don't want to do full coverage anymore unless it is a "professionally done build" by a company that specifically does Skoolies. Hunter was on the phone with all the big insurance companies last week and got this same answer from each one. But state farm did say that they MIGHT be able to do full coverage, no guarantee, and we are waiting to hear back from them with more info. So that may be your best bet to call your local state farm and ask. If we are able to find a way we will most likely make a video for it explaining what we did.

    • @sklsout
      @sklsout 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback. We are only interested in liability insurance. Did you get your liability from State farm?
      Thanks again

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sklsout We have it from Good Sam. It was the least expensive we could find for liability only (a little over $400 a year). But that is the base price, without towing and stuff added on. The only reason that we are talking with State farm is because they might do full coverage.

    How much would you say this whole build has cost you thus far? And How much did you get the bus for initially?

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid
      @OutsideAndOffgrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We spent 60k total. There are definitely plenty of areas where cost can be brought down lower when doing a bus build, but we decided we would put everything we wanted into it since it would be our full time home. The initial cost of the bus itself was $2500.
      We plan on making a video breaking down the cost and what it was spent on like building materials (built during peak lumber prices), electronics, and big ticket items the bus needed like new tires and lights. (Replacing the tires cost us more than buying the bus did!).

    • @OutsideAndOffgrid

      We rarely leave the bus for long, but if someone did mess with it we have security cameras on the exterior of the bus that would catch it happening.

Our dogs love it WAY more than the different kibble brands we tried before hand. We are doing some research now to see what/if we should be adding any supplements to the recipe.

    Please don’t take this the wrong way, but the pop -ups on the left towards the end of your videos are very large and obstruct the video a great deal and I have accidentally clicked on them a quite a few times before getting to finish the videos. I don’t know if you care about likes, but this problem will certainly affect that because I think most people likely wait towards the end to like videos. I’m really not trying to criticize, but it’s frustrating.
