  • What are pull-string or pull-spring setups on a DLG? Pull-string is a type of linkage for the rudder and elevator on your discus launch glider. It's light, has zero slop, very accurate, and easy to install.

    Hello Thomas, I just finished building my BAMF2. It’s a big improvement over my 5 year old DLG. This comment is mostly to thank you for your effort to serve your customers, your professionalism and also for sharing your knowledge with us. A big thumb up as always.
    PS: I love the neck-gaiter. Thank you.

    I added a spring connected to the servo head, to pull it against the tail spring.
    In neutral position, the sum of the springs forces is zero.
    I believe it consume less power in average, and reduces the servo wear.

    I'm not into DLGs but when I'm scratching to keep weight to a minimum I use a pull-pull system with two runs of 0.1mm dyneema fishing line. Getting the tension just right can be a fiddle without adding the weight of a turnbuckle but can be done.

    • @ArmSoar
      @ArmSoar  ปีที่แล้ว

      With pull-string, you’ll have better a better centring install without the pull-pull stress on hinges, which will also degrade the accuracy over time. DLGs are very sensitive to small trim changes and double-centring, hence pull-string becoming the standard.

    Thank you for the video. I am looking for information on how to install the pulley. How do you set it up and make sure that it is in the right position? I searched your vids and I don't see anywhere on how to actually install the pulley itself. I ordered a set from your store and I am getting ready to install the servo tray, just not quite sure how these guys should be set up. Thanks for any help or point me to a video with the information.

    Hi Thomas,
    I am trying to set up my 1m Hawk DLG.
    NX8 - spektrum receiver
    I have set up my flight modes in Camber Preset.
    Is this correct:
    Cruise mode 0mm with 6mm up and travel of the aliron when I move the stick and 5mm down.
    Thermal 1 - 2mm down this then reduces the up travel of the aliron to only 4mm and means the down throw become 7mm
    Thermal 2 - 4 mm down this reduces up throw to 2mm and down becomes 9mm
    Is this correct? The camber preset moves the aliron function down.
    Should the aliron throw be 6mm up and 5mm down regardless of what flight mode I’m in?
    Cruise 0mm
    Thermal 1 - 2mm down
    Thermal 2 - 4mm down

    Question, should we always store the glider with the surfaces relaxed? Will it deform the surfaces if stored central?

    • @mr.taylor711
      @mr.taylor711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the ultra-thin skin on the tail surfaces, I do think that is a real risk. I tend to ensure that the surfaces are relaxed for that reason alone.

    • @ArmSoar
      @ArmSoar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're using carbon tails I think the issue isn't going to be significant, but I'd still relax it to be safer.

    FYI, the Beadalon is MUCH cheaper at Michael's. It should not cost more than $10 per roll.
