I got my TS-440S going again. It had the "goop" issue with VCO5. I removed most of the components, cleaned up the board using acetone. I also had low voltage on pin 7 of IC17. It appeared to be due to a loose wire on pin 2 of J6. I repaired the loose wire, set VCO5 for 5v at TP11 and now I have a radio again. Thank you for this video. It was very helpful.
I found a ts-440, buried under junk and dust, it had been sitting for 10+ years at the club and noone knew who owned it. So i took it home and tried it. No cigar, i got the dots, so i searched online for a while and found tons of info. After removing the potting stuff and breaking and replacing one of the switching diodes i have a somewhat working 440. 24m still has dots and 10m vfo is wobbly/oscillating. Other than that it works great, have around 1000 qso's on it 😎 12 and 10m are not so active now anyways, but i do want to fix it.

That's great to hear! Glad you got your radio back in working order.
Lol this rig is shaping up to be lots of fun. Right up my street. Cheers.
Yes sir it sure is. Going to be interesting to find out what is causing this voltage issue.
@@Radionut63 the fact that it's unstable is strange.
very strange indeed!

que bom o meu transceptor é semelhante com esse o meu é o kenwood ts 430s parabéns!!
Feliz por ajudar!
You sure that the cap isn't shorted and passing DC to ground? 73 from K9POW in eastern Tennessee.
Awaiting the next video, voltage regulator? No, then the other pll’s wouldn’t be stable. Something dragging the voltage down?
I am starting to think the same thing. Perhaps even a electrolytic cap gone bad. hmmmm
Radionut63 I wonder if it would be that simple. But I guess you’ll show us.
Another video uploading tonight, stay tuned! ;-)
would setting the vco and PLL voltages fix this?
you might be looking at conductive sony bond issues too.

All that glue has been removed before when i first had this TS440
plastic trimmers maybe?
Boring looking at the meter.
Stop looking at it then... LOL
