Many Aussies have sung this loud and proud at many nightclubs, parties and gatherings at 2am in full unison.

On the album that this comes from (Edge), you can hear John Farnham doing a lot of the backing vocals (as the days go by is a good example ).... most of our premier artists here help one another out, support each other and are basically friends - regardless of the fact that they are mainly in competition chart wise.... I guess being remote makes it necessary sometimes ! The background singer was Margaret Urlich - New Zealand singer who based herself in Sydney so we claimed her !!! (most Aussies will see the humour in that statement !! ) Thanks Mikey !

The horses, was my husband and my "song". He passed away in 2018. It amazes me, how whenever I feel really low, and need a pick me up, this song somehow magically appears in some way. THANK YOU for reacting to this song. I feel like it was a message from my Steve, to say he is still here with me. 💖💖💖
By the way, your eyes are very expressive, when you are enjoying listening to a song that touches your soul. I totally love that about your reactions. I truly hope your channel grows. There are so MANY Australian and New Zealand artists (I consider us Aussies and Kiwi's brothers) that you have yet to discover. I can't wait til you fall down that rabbit hole and fall in love with our own home grown talent. 💖💜

Daryl Braithwaite has John Farnham to thank for he’s comeback in the late 80’s .
Daryl was working on some songs for an album like John was pretty much at similar time John was working on Whispering Jack .
Daryl was also unsigned by any recording company at that time .
Many recording companies regretted turning back John Farnham’s Whispering Jack album in 1986. Apparently so Columbia / Sony gave Daryl Braithwaite an recording deal without hearing any of he’s demos with ended up being 1988 hit The Edge album .
John Farnham’s success opened up the contemporary pop market in Australia in the late 80’s and restored faith in Australia artist from the 60’s 70’s that had popularity drop in 80’s .
John Farnham also did background vocals on Daryl Braithwaite’s albums The Edge and Rise which features this song The Horses .
The female singer on this song is New Zealander Margaret Urlich she recorded her part over the phone . Sorry Margaret Urlich isn’t the girl in the music video that’s a model

Rickie Lee Jones [of Chuck E.'s in Love fame] wrote this for her daughter, saying that even when grown she will always be there for her. Daryl Braithwaite covered it [Rise album] and his version became more popular than Rickie Lee's original. Daryl started in a band called Sherbert, and they had some fun songs as well.

One of those songs every Australian can belt out a rendition of - particularly when drunk. It’s a song you’ll hear your neighbour singing along to. Back during the worst of Covid I remember someone trying to organise a national singalong of Horses where we all supposed to belt it out drunk together.

I got a bit of a surprise when I moved to Melbourne and they started playing this song at the end of a Melbourne Victory Football Club match I attended. I thought it was just a random choice of music to play at the stadium but I was shocked that there were about 30,000 people singing along, so its apparently a ritual that is repeated at the end of every match. It was fun to see all the people bonding over this song that was familiar from when I was a kid.

I was at the same concert it was awesome. There was no disappointment at all his voice was as good as his recordings.
I was so sick of his warm-up act she seemed to go on forever.
To add to the pain I was stuck on her family table and had to put up with them constantly saying how good she was. She was ok but not his standard of talent.

This is everyone's favorite wedding song. I may even use it at my wedding. It has 40 million digital downloads, including 14 million on TH-cam and continues to be a big seller in physical media and recently went 10th x platinum. The video was shot on a beach a few hours north of Sydney, south of Forster. The helicopter was there partly to get those aerial shots but also to fly Darryl directly to a gig in Sydney that night once filming wrapped up.

One of Australia’s much loved singers Daryl is a rock legend as he started out in the Aussie Band Sherbet and has had a sole career for many years he is still performing today his is 73. Horses is one of many Aussie anthem as when it’s play everyone sings it at the top of their voice we have so many of them here in Australia as we have so many awesome bands and singers. Daryl released a new single in 2020 called Love Song which I love he was 71, you should check out One Summer which is a great song.. so reminds us of our summers at the beach and life in Australia back then we were kids. plus As The Days Go By, All I Do, Higher Than Hope & Rise..

In his time, Darryl Braithwaite was considered to have the best male falsetto in Australia. Before his solo career, he was in a band called “Sherbet” who Dominated the popular charts for most of the 70s. Their song “Howzat” (a cricket terminology used by the team bowling to enquire of the umpire if a batsman was bowled or caught out) is still used by Cricket Australia as an anthem today, some fifty years later.

Ah, good old Dazza. 55 yr old Aussie here. Daryl was originally in a group called Sherbet. Their most famous song was probably 'Howzat' which used old Cricket slang. In the 1970s, we kids would argue on the playground who was better: Sherbet or their more glam rock rivals, Skyhooks. I could never choose. I loved them both. :-)
Your enthusiasm is infectious. You're practically an honorary Aussie now. Most Aussies believe the only prerequisite to be an Aussie is that you want to be one. Welcome to the family. :-)

It'd be cool if you response to Daryl's 70's hit ''Howzat'' with his previous band, Sherbet. The song was # 1 in Australia and several other countries, and got to # 60 on the US billboard charts (some position).... Courtney Love claimed it was her favourite song when she was a teenager. It'd be great to see you react to it.
The woman that sang along with Daryl in ''Horses'' was Margaret Urlich. She recently died of cancer. She isn't in the video.
If you're interested, check out Margaret Urlich's hits ''Escape'' and ''Only My Heart Calling''... She was a New Zealander, but had success in Australia in the 90's..
