So put yourself in his shoes: he's basically been like Luffy, he's got an OP fruit, he demolished the grand line & new world low dif, and then not only had his entire crew wiped by 1 single person, but that single person is also the first actual defeat we know for a fact he had. He didn't forget how to use Haki, he lost the ability to cause he fell into such a deep depression his will broke completely.
