NO! "Flea came to me and said, “I want to take a two-year break after this tour.” And he said that to me about halfway through the [2007 “Stadium Arcadium”] tour, and when he said it I was kind of shocked, 'cause I thought we were on a roll, let’s just keep moving with this, you know? But once he said it to me, my mind started thinking,"What would I do with that two years if I had two years to just do whatever I wanted? I just knew that I didn’t ever want to be in the band again, you know? J.F.
Damn. What a legend man. Hope he's been doing good with those years to himself, they better be doing him good. Insanely talented musician but understandable, everyone needs a break.

It's interesting seeing John Frusciante and Josh Klinghoffer playing together in RCHP, knowing that these are the last 2 shows they did with Frusciante. He may not have officially quit until 2009, but the writing was all on the wall during these concerts, since he didn't want to be in the band anymore, and the rest of the band knew it, and they felt like the concerts were the worst they did because of that. They still sounded great, but they must had felt like shit knowing that they're playing with a guitarist that wants to get the hell out of the band.
Every SINGLE time they performed Don’t Forget Me live with Frusciante - it was the best song of the night. John could ride on one lick for ages. Such a beautiful sound. Such a beautiful song.
I search the internet for live versions of "Don't Forget Me" just to watch Johns guitar solo... Everyone I find just gets more amazing. John you are an amazing musician.
They are so tired. They seriously over toured and it shows and it clearly contributed to John leaving. He looks burnt out here in the same way Hendrix did before he passed away...
The recording of dont forget me is chilling! John knew he was done. As did the rest of the band. John and flea usually come stand together during the outro, the distances between them seems so evident here. When john hits the wah pedal at the end and turns away gives me goosebumps. So glad they are all back together again.
This video is conveniently edited! They actually opened with 'Can't stop' but Kiedis' microphone didn't work properly and they stumbled on for a bit with the vocals coming in and out and then stopped. They had a few more problems throughout the beginning of the gig and Kiedis almost tripped over a cable at one point and this is a significant part of why the band looked so angry here. They restarted the gig which is what you see here. After that it was so laboured and uninspiring. People were pissed off in the crowd. They then started making fun of English football team names which went down badly with the already annoyed crowd and many left. Then at the end the band jammed waiting for an encore and Kiedis didn't come back out. Many in the crowd were raging at that point and it was a borderline riot. They stunk the place out with this end of tour performance. I know this because I was there!

I love how every comment from before 2019s december has got someone answering something about Johns return Like everyone I came to see his one of his last shows as a trailer for this sagas sequel
This is not the actual John's last show. The last was in Leeds and this video contains only the footage from the Reading Festival which was one day earlier.
Only finding this footage 15 years later. I was at Leeds the day before, couldn’t wait to see them. Far and away the most anticipated band for that weekend and I remember being completely underwhelmed by the performance. It looks a lot better here at Reading than I remember at Leeds!
John's solos are just incredible. He will improvise every single god damn time and create a new masterpiece, he just leaves me speakless. God amongst men
I get what your saying, its very evident here and with many of the later concerts. You can tell a disconnection is there when being compared to the first couple of months of shows in 2006 where everyone seemed happy, I'm guessing he just got burnt out of playing the same songs every single night, and I could see making jams for every performance of Californication kinda tiring as well. But what every makes him happy doesn't matter to me, he's still alive and making music :D
I agree that you could tell he was going to leave but I don't think he looked bored. If he was bored he wouldn't be bothering to do as much improvisation as he still did. He was definitely showing Josh the ropes for chilli's. Really want John back :/
The chili peppers have the best rythm section since the 90's. Change my mind. They have an immense capacity to improvise, my mind is blown away, holy shit
I think you should watch Don't Forget Me from this show. In every other performance before the 2007 ones John and Flea would meet up in the middle of the stage and jam that way. He's completly right about a disconnection in the band, even if John was happy with the album even though, there's songs the band changed and made him not like (Storm in a Teacup). In that interview the exact words were' I think this is the best album WE put out as a band) Fact is no one in the band enjoyed theirself
Yeah, Josh was already a part of the peps in some way. And he ain't bad, he's just not that funky of a soul, he's more of a Jack White kind of style in my opinion.
Could be, but I certainly remember an interview or at least a video about RHCP saying they had been some time off because they are grown men with families, etc. The only time span this could have been happening in is 2004-2006. I am sure about that. Though I can imagine them being tired of touring during 2006-2007.
16:00 You can clearly see his boredom and exhaustion frm this tour which probably led him to leave the band. I just hope they dont over do it with him again.
