The timing of this video is amazing as I just took delivery of the Comeup winch for my Bison! Side note - happy Brawl of the Wild week and sorry griz but GO CATS!
What an awesome gift! I did the same install on my 2020 Bison the summer after I bought it. I did find the instructions were pretty good overall. I did the same thing - missing the window cut-out!! I went back and added it. I noticed that the cutout made the winch line susceptible to ice build-up considering the snow and freeze thaw cycles so I have since made a little removable clear plastic window for that spot. I recommend adding some dielectric grease to all your winch connections if you live a snowy area. I also noted a little rust forming on my winch body assembly seams so adding some grease to those spots is also recommended. I too did a Factor55 hook (ultra) and love it so far. I have used my winch a few times and it's a beast. You'll love the wireless controller. Great vid - Keep the Bison content coming!
Love the Video, as a ZR2 owner myself, one of the best mods I did was put an HID headlight kit into my truck so I can actually see, this was bought from HID kit Pro's in Bellevue WA before I moved out of Seattle, I love it, Chris might also! Cheers boys and keep up the great content!
Never heard of COMEUP winches before, gonna check in on your vids to see how they hold up. Hopefully have a new ZR2 or AT4X in the garage before the new year.
Jason/Chris - I am trying to decipher the installation instructions - The power cable to the battery connects to which point? Before or after the fuse? The instructions just show cutting the notch; looks like you & Chris attached to the point before the fuse though most would attach downstream of the fuse and there is already something attached there. Thanks!
Looking at the video at 7:58 it looks like we attached to the post on the battery post towards the cab as the instructions say (not in line with the stock fuse since it has its own). Chris if you see this and I'm wrong please chime in. :-)
Super awesome of you to do this! I'm curious how you feel about the COMEUP winch vs WARN 9.5XP-S for ~$600 more. Also curious if you know why all winch companies are CAPITALIZED. Finally, curious how level Chris's truck is with the leveling kit and a RTT/rack on the back (I think he's had your soft shell on there). I've got about 250 lbs forever on my truck and am worried it might start to Carolina Squat if I don't also upgrade the rear springs.
Which companies like to yell their names! That's why it's capitalized...RIGHT?! :-) It'll be interesting if Chris wants to upgrade the rear leafs. He has a heavier tent now (MORE ON THAT SOON). Not sure which winch option is better. This one was very premium. The best thing about it is how customized it is to the ZR2 Bison. With the correct AEV instructions it's a very easy installation. Disassembly and assembly of the bumper is the hardest part.
@@JasonExplainsThings A cheaper alternative for rear squat could be longer leaf shackles if one doesn't require more spring weight capacity. Looking forward to see where that goes.
@@JasonExplainsThings I’ll watch those for sure! I have a Colorado 2020 and I’m absolutely in love with it so seeing your build inspired me to make mine look similar! Thank you for your videos!
I'm trying to find a hidden wireless winch that'll work with my 2016 Colorado Z71 with the same bison bumper. It says this winch is for 2019 an newer. Any advice? Most winches don't say what years they work for nor do they say if they're compatible with hidden bumper mounts.
@@JasonExplainsThings well I’m doing my research. I have to save to get the bumper. I want to get the bumper, the winch and small light at the same time so I don’t have to have everything installed at different times. I have to have it installed at a shop. It’ll cost more to do those at 3 different times.
Where is the front license plate. Washington does requires a front plate! I know AEV make a front plate relocation kit for people that want the winch on the Colorado’s
AEV offers a license plate bracket. The law states a modified bumper doesn’t require one… but that might be a pretty grey area because the Bison’s bumper is hardly modified at all.
The AEV plate kit is only for non-Bisons I believe. I need a solution for my Bison, something better than zip ties. I considered making something off the fairlead mounting bolts but they're barely long enough for the fairlead. Jason/Chris - let us know if you find a Bison front plate solution!
@@BowTied69 IIRC there are mounting holes on 2021 and above skid plates but instructions to drill them also exist. I forget where I read this and it's been awhile since I looked into it. Best bet is to email AEV IMO.
@@JasonExplainsThings On the second to last page of the instructions it shows how to attach a license plate with that kit. As for needing the front plate check out RCW 46.16A.200.
question , I have an at4x with the winch and wanted to add a winch isolator but the winch pin does not have a cotter pin how does one get the stock pin out ?
@JasonExplainsThings i never got mine. Suspect it may have been stolen as the package was nearly opened. Worst part is i couldn't dispute it as the return time passed since I was out of town for more than a month. Guess I'll have to order another one smh 😑

Oh and there’ several Bison videos coming… actually the next 2 all feature it.
@@JasonExplainsThings AWESOME!
Well, I mean, the Toyota is cool too. :) But ya, Bison us up! :D

Thanks. I know he did something with the headlights.
Nice winch! Looks slick compared to my smittybilt x20. Great video guys
Really thinking of going this direction. Great video as always.
Based on the 2 Bison options, I’d consider it. You save a good amount of money vs the Warn option… and the kit is taylor made for the truck.
Yeah! Awesome.
Well done as usual
🤜🤛
Awesome!
Thanks!

Just used this video today to look up that GM part number.

Well, hi there. 👍

Yup!
So I've got everything mounted but it seems my wiring is too short (using a different front bumper).
Where did yall get the extended wires?
That was part of the kit from GM.

Oh man that sucks! Sorry dude.
Will this set up work with a non-Bison?
(2019 Z71)
Looking for lightest possible .
Well, you’d need the AEV front bumper. Otherwise I’d look at other winch bumpers. This kit is specifically designed for the AEV one.
Jason👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!
Where does the license plate go?
Legally it's a grey area if it's required at this point (depends on the state). AEV sells a bracket if you need one.
