Octavio Di Gianni she’s literally won an Emmy, multiple grammy’s, an Oscar and multiple golden globes. Just because your living under a rock doesn’t mean she hasn’t done anything.
I really like Applause as the closing track because it summarizes a lot of the themes of the album and I think it musically and lyrically feels like a credits song. If ARTPOP was a movie and every song represented a scene, Gypsy would be the climax and resolution, and Applause would be the credits song and post-credit scene.
applause was also about how she felt encouraged to come back to music after she broke her hip by knowing that there were people who love and appreciate her art i.e. applause
I get it, but Gipsy FEELS like the ending of the album. The way that it ends, should be how it all shoud have ended. I myself always forget that it isn't the closing song.
I think MANiCURE would definitely fit as a credits song. Gypsy should've been the ending song and I feel like Applause should've been either the opening track or the track before Gypsy.
I hope not "divorced" due to some lyrics "...I have heard enough of these voices", "...May be it's time for us to say goodbye". It's a very sad record to me, the subtext is VERY sad but on the surface it's fun (like in life). Joanne was not that nostalgic really. Chromatica is akin to lamenting a lover or something. I know something more of course...
you missed a big point and it's that gaga's manager left her before the release of the album, and also the sxsw performance was at the end of the era almost... she was so tired of everything, the album, the press, her record label... it was a scream for help.
SAINTWEST The sad part is that she had so much planned for ARTPOP but her manager at the time left her, which caused a lot of things to fall though. The app being one of those things. :/

Because the setup of the narration in the video preyed on your/our nostalgic fanaticism for 'Lady GaGa'™- the pop icon. The idea that the world's, arguably, biggest pop star was waning in her pop culture celebrity stature that she had skyrocketed to the top of- just a few years before Artpop (that we as fans got to gloriously witness) was coming to an end and that we won't ever get another glimpse of that gaga in her pop prime again is a mournful and scary thought. A gagaless would be a boring world, and being aware of that reality is reflected in that little pause before stupid loves plays around 17:57. It invokes that feeling of something great closing to end like when you graduate high school or sumn.
No matter how impactful "Chromatica" will become, I will always remember "ARTPOP" as the album that changed my life the most. My five favorite songs of the album are 1. Swine: Not because of her performances for this song, but for the reason she wrote it. It helped me to scream out my mental pain, caused by sexual abuse. 2. ARTPOP: Besides the mysterious vibes, combined with Gameboy-sounds and melancholic strings in its instrumental, it helped me to unterstand that everything is connected and "could belong together". The influence of the song on my thoughts and my actions was leading me to another path in my life to cure my depressions and my burned-out soul by starting to paint. It also changed my perspectives on life itself. 3. Venus: It's funky, it's catchy, it's epic, it's the anthem to Aphrodite and even self-confidence ("Don't you know, my A$$ is famous"). It's an explosion of art, Greek culture and mythology. Everything combined in one song. 4. Gypsy: The vibes of this song are emotional af. I feel happy, but also with tears in my eyes, tears full of wanderlust. I wanna see and learn from the world, I want to feel like I'm a part of the entire planet, not only like a part of German society in the middle of nowhere. But as an introvert, who's afraid of humanity and who has no experiences with traveling, it always feels like there's a gigantic wall, I can't manage to climb. I love nature and I'd love to explore mountains, forests volcanoes, beaches, caves, jungles, deserts, oceans and seas. That's why, whenever I hear the song, my happiness is filled with tears, knowing that someday I'll may be able to climb the giant wall of fears and worries. 5. G.U.Y.: Not because of the song itself, but its ARTPOP-film music video. It shows how Gaga was used by her old management to be a moneymaking machine and when she was in pain (that time when her hip broke), the management dropped her off like she isn't useful any longer. But she raised up again, like a phoenix from the ashes, to get back her ARTPOP-era and finish the era like a boss. Back in these times, I was in a similar situation, where the only two things I've known were my couch and my work. So Gaga inspired me to change something, to take back my life like a boss, because it's my life, not the life of society or money. And looking back on that, I'm still very proud to have taken this step.

It feels cohesive, especially knowing what the songs are actually about and the mental state, gaga was in at that time. It's over the top, of course, but if you listen closely, you can feel how all the trashiness is a wall she built around the pain she had to go through at that time. Well said. As a longtime gaga Stan we just have to accept that some people will just not get it. One thing about being a fan of hers has taught me is that everything in life can and deserves to be thought of ‘too deeply’ and…some people just haven’t realized that yet. You should check out an old blog ‘Gaga Stigmata’ they weren’t afraid of ‘thinking too deeply’ when it came to her work
she served looks, amidst being abandoned by close people to her, she served art and pop. I a strange way looking back at it the goal was reached but not the way it was expected. Still one of my most listened pop albums.
This album was ahead of its time. It means so much to me. I’m glad Gaga is starting to be weird again. I feel like the backlash to this album is why she was “normal” acting for a while.
I need a DDD on Lady Gaga! She’s one of the most influential artists of all-time. Also, potential hot take here: I think that Bad Romance is the greatest pop song of all time (man or woman I guess). every time I listen to the song, with where she was at the top of the music mountain at that time, the structure of the song, the vocals, and EVERYTHING. Maybe I’m just really biased and I’m sure you can make a case Madonna deserves that title, but I think Bad Romance is the greatest pop song of all time.
Yes yes and yes I completely agree with you. I think Bad Romance is the best pop song ever done, it's literally my favourite song of all time I have yet to hear something as incredible, beautiful and eargasmic as Bad Romance let's not to forget the music video which elevated the song into beyond pop excellence.
ill say it again: carly rae jepsen has been lowkey one of the most influential pop artists since the release of emotion, but people are not ready to talk about this yet
It's not a flop! It's just under-appreciated within the pop-sphere. Which kind of makes sense! It's a rock opera! It's a concept album, not an edm album regardless of how much edm is on there! It's an epic journey and no one can tell me different.
I don’t think i’ve loved a youtube channel more then Mic The Snare. Everything video is so consistent, genuine and entertaining. The quality is outstanding and every video adds a new interesting touch to the world of music analysis and discussion. Thankyou so much for these videos!
Gypsy, Donatella, Venus, and G.U.Y. are all some of Gaga’s best work! I find ART POP to be some of her best work tbh and I think Donatella is a very underrated song. I think the satire of it is amazing!
i don’t know why I cried watching this especially at the end. i admire her so much. paws up, little monsters! as gaga said, “you are my little monsters, my fans, my family”
I think the mess of management that was occurring during the ARTPOP era contributed to its “flop’ but out of all her albums, ARTPOP is the one I’ve listened to the most. And if you have not listened to the album with headphones do yourself a favor and do it! You get to hear so much more detail and depth in the music.
And the music is incredible. Do yourself another favor and listen to all the ARTPOP songs instrumental versions. They're all on TH-cam and they're incredible. I didn't love Applause the way I do now until I listen to the instrumental (same goes for G.U.Y. or Venus). ARTPOP was not as successful as Gaga's previous albums because (like with Madonna's Erotica I guess) people focussed more on the controversies and on anything but THE MUSIC. So typical of us human beings.
She didn't release another duets album with tony Bennett it was just the one. Good video though, I think overall the biggest problem was the confusing and muddled release of it. Alot of the rollout seemed rushed and unfinished. Plus she promoted it as this high concept fusion of art and pop when really it's just a fun album of camp EDM with alot of the visuals being inspired by classical and modern art, and if she'd made that clear I think the general public would've been more on board. The music really was great and fans look back on it fondly nowadays.
aren't we going to talk about the beautiful design of the video's thumbnail? It's what really brought me here. Came for the thumbnail, stayed for the content. Keep up the good work!
ARTPOP was, and forever will be one of my favourite albums of all time. there's so few albums where i liked all of the songs on it, and this was one of them.
Thank you so much, for the video! ARTPOP is so close to my heart! This time was iconic and the music inspired me in my art making over and over again. This video brings back all my feelings and memories and clearifys all my doubts! THANKS! ♥️😘
artpop didnt flop. when you release an album as big as born this way and with that much promotion, you cannot expect to top that afterwards. artpop didnt sell as much as the other gaga albums, thats why people say it flopped imo. also, i think applause is an amazing end to the album. i think of it this way: after the spectacle comes the applause. i cannot think of a better ending for that album. i think its perfect the way it is.
I'm a huge Gaga fan. I'm surprised you did this. Most guys don't appreciate female pop musicians. I'm excited about Chromatica. Too bad it won't be released next month due to coronavirus. :(
Hey Mic, hope you are well despite the corona crisis. Please keep up this series of revisiting childhood pop albums of the 2010s. It has been years since I have listened to them but you're certainly making me think about Gaga and BEP for the first time in years.
ARTPOP is extremely underrated and is an amazing album that was ahead of its time. Gaga had a hard time at this time. I’m so glad she survived and is doing much better.
Every video from you is top notch, man. Thank you for doing what you do, I loved sitting down and getting to know what the deal with this album was. As a kid who started paying attention to pop music around 2009, stopped around 2012, and didn't really start again until 2017, Artpop was a big blindspot to me. It truly is a very interesting experience, and now I'm eagerly looking forward to Chromatica to see if it's along what you said, what Gaga was trying to do with Artpop.
JUSITCE FOR ARTPOP!!! At first I didn’t know what she was doing with this album but as I listened I fell more and more in love. Best Gaga album in my opinion.
ARTPOP is iconic! It’s honestly my favorite album by GaGa next to The Fame. This album is honestly amazing. It’s a full blown journey through the mind of Lady GaGa at that time period. Listen to it stoned(pending your in a state where it’s legal lol) and you will find a whole new appreciation for this album. It is wonderful.
In ArtPop she made a promise that we could belong together and that there was something better out there. It was psychdelic and spiritual. But with Chromatica, Rocket Number 9 has officially landed and welcome to Chromatica where you find your Enigma.
I loved your insight on her career so far. Ive been a "little monster" since 2010 and this woman is still taking me by surprise so it was really refreshing to get a more neutral point of view instead of all the stan bickering I see on social media! You got a sub here. :)
i have loved this art piece since she did all that she did for it. honestly amazing and great appreciation from a die hard fan for such great content on a wonderful record.
This video is so well-produced. The presentation is lit, and you are so hilarious. Great job! As an ARTPOP stan, my mind and feelings were kinda brought from one place to another, but I'm so entertained. Thank you and stay safe!

ARTPOP is my favorite album ever. That said, this was a fair reviewi I'm new to this channel but I ant to say thank you for making this video. Its nice to see Gaga's early work reviewed objectively, respectfully, and thoughtfully for a change (instead of getting mocked in what is disguised as a "review".) Also thanks for making this since it got me really pumped for Chromatica XD
Didn't know this channel, but loved this video? I'm a self-and-gaga-aware little monster ever since Just Dance, and since the infamous release of ARTPOP in 2013, I've endured (and in some instances endorsed) some harsh criticism on the album and Gaga. But also have seen multiple people and publications just using it as an excuse to be flat-out mean to Gaga and release some sort of spite for her daring to achieve that level of fame. This one is not that at all. This video is a rare instance in which the author while being realistic about ARTPOP's flaws, contradictions, and fragilities, remained objetive in recognizing the great bits and pieces you can find in there. WELL DONE. Subscribed!
Recently it has striked me as odd how many outlets classify Lady Gaga as one of the biggest and most talented artists of the recent memory, but still critics and music content creators always seem to look over her work, I see so many really smart youtubers making interesting analysis about many kinds of music and it's impact, but besides die hard fans, I don't see many music experts on youtube really analyzing Gaga's music, and I feel it's a shame since she has been working the whole decade to serve so many different sides of herself and her artistry that I feel should be analyzed from all that surrounded it, mainly, this, all the huge amounts of pain that Gaga endure before, during and after the release of the album and how she expressed it all through her artistry, I just feel Gaga should be given the chance to be a bigger case of study that she really is, instead of just overlooking her music because of her bombastic public persona.
ARTPOP was both a very creative and chaotic time in Lady Gaga’s life. I do feel it was ahead of its time. But in the end it became a statement to pop culture and became this electrical masterpiece. I love this album and always will. ARTPOP Forever! 🔵💜 #ARTPOP #ARTPOPACT2 #LadyGaga

Her SXSW performance is the most iconic thing I've ever seen.
and still you didn't mention the whole fallout with the managment before the album came out.
great video nontheless :)
She should have just re-released the album with DWUW with Xtina.
John Cooper she still has the single
She actually wanted to, I don't know why it didnt happen, I guess due to manegement issues
R. K*lly co-wrote the song, so he still gets paid for it, i think.
The end of this videos made me tear up ... this album means so much to me
Same
This album was ahead of its time. It means so much to me. I’m glad Gaga is starting to be weird again. I feel like the backlash to this album is why she was “normal” acting for a while.
0:39 “Continuing to be rough, for more weeks if not months”
Applause at the end means "ok the show is over, time to applause"
It truly is! If not, then definitely the best music video of all time. (Though, I'd accept Thriller too)
I feel exactly the same. Bad Romance is the definition of Pop Perfection.
Its like pop bohemian rhapsody in the way that is such an emotional roller coaster
ARTPOP is one of my favourite albums ever, so it's nice to talking about it. Thank you. Hope to see a deep discog dive when Chromatica comes out!
Omg finally someone says it. CLARITY IS MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT HE IS RELEASING NOW.
ill say it again: carly rae jepsen has been lowkey one of the most influential pop artists since the release of emotion, but people are not ready to talk about this yet
It's not a flop! It's just under-appreciated within the pop-sphere. Which kind of makes sense! It's a rock opera! It's a concept album, not an edm album regardless of how much edm is on there! It's an epic journey and no one can tell me different.
This channel deserves more subs. A Fact.
As gaga said “Who cares if I sold 1 million records less than last time” And I get that. Let’s just enjoy the music and not think about the numbers 🤩
I love the music there
i don’t know why I cried watching this especially at the end. i admire her so much. paws up, little monsters! as gaga said, “you are my little monsters, my fans, my family”
0:00 Oh, Michelangelo the Snare Trap, if only we knew back then. If only we knew.
I'm sinning but R Kelly was conceptually perfect for DWYW. ART IMITATES LIFE. ARTPOP at its finest. Also, Sexxx Dream is a top 10 Gaga song.
This Album was ahead of it‘s Time and it’s still the most underrated, PERIOD!!
How was it ahead of its time?
I lost it at
"The aaaAAAAAA lady from a star is born"
Jajhsajhaajhajajahahaha
Artpop will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. ❤️
Same!💕
I rlly wish she has released all the songs like tea, mushroom girl, temple, Princess die etc. bc it would have made it the best album of the 2010s
World : meat dress
Me: Heard about flying dress
It’s 2021 and WE’RE STILL discussing ARTPOP.
It's been 10 years since Artpop, and I'm still listening
ARTPOP was, and forever will be one of my favourite albums of all time. there's so few albums where i liked all of the songs on it, and this was one of them.
God I love watching her perform, even just in the short clips in this video. She’s so dynamic
Yep, ARTPOP is back in 2021 and u were right, what a masterpiece
Thank you so much, for the video! ARTPOP is so close to my heart! This time was iconic and the music inspired me in my art making over and over again. This video brings back all my feelings and memories and clearifys all my doubts! THANKS! ♥️😘
ARTPOP has one of the best songs on Gaga's discography the melodies the lyrics the sound it's all iconic !
How in the hell does this channel not have more subscribers. It's amazing.
This is the video I needed right now.
You have no idea how i love the way you make videos like this. Massive kudos to you man
artpop didnt flop. when you release an album as big as born this way and with that much promotion, you cannot expect to top that afterwards. artpop didnt sell as much as the other gaga albums, thats why people say it flopped imo.
also, i think applause is an amazing end to the album. i think of it this way: after the spectacle comes the applause. i cannot think of a better ending for that album. i think its perfect the way it is.
MY BIGGEST ENEMY IS ME EVER SINCE DAY 1. POP A 911 THEN POP ANOTHER ONE!
Would love to see you do more on Gaga, I think the way she puts so much of herself into her songs makes her really interesting.
You can say ANYTHING about ArtPop but Gypsy will always have a special place in my heart :')
I love how you dissect everything about Artpop and correlating her works after that.
Great job 👍😘
And here we are today, in april 2021, with ARTPOP being #1 in iTunes Worldwide Albums Chart, almost 8 years after its release.
ARTPOP never gets old it feels like it's still new
I loved your insight on her career so far.
ARTPOP is Gaga's own "hyperpop", the exaggeration of what her signature brand of pop is. And it's great
This video is so well-produced. The presentation is lit, and you are so hilarious. Great job! As an ARTPOP stan, my mind and feelings were kinda brought from one place to another, but I'm so entertained. Thank you and stay safe!
If u don’t like ARTPOP is just bc u don’t understand the album. Such a MASTERPIECE.
My favorite album of all time ❤ I'm in love with every single song of it.
It's time to make the Haus of Snare
Applause is such a perfect album closer imo. It’s really the song after the whole party of everything and the meaning fits so well in its spot.
6:44 a small correction: the girl isn't a model, she is a british performance artist called Millie Brown, and the mysterious green liquid is coloured milk
Artpop is her greatest album! The greatest album ever made. Way ahead of its time.
"the only one thing holding Perfect Illusion back for being a huge hit is the fact that is the song Perfect Illusion" LMAAOOOOOOO HAHAHAHA you had me with that one, not gonna lie
this is the first video i saw of you and now i watched the entire channel and i loved it ♡
ANIMAL CROSSING AND ARTPOP YEAH I SUBBED
when this came out when i was 14 i used to sit in my room ALL night listening to it and painting. it was such a vibe it was crazy good times
This review is hilarious you did a great job roasting and respecting Gaga
Phenomenal video honestly. The research and opinion was top notch. And the funny jokes here and there just made it perfect.
ARTPOP is the greatest album of all time..
It's hard to watch the entire video without singing her song in my brain 😂
GYPSY SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SINGLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE T-T
That's all I have to say
The regret of the century.
This makes sense. Im glad youve shared this video with us. It is your first vid that im watching.
Please make a video going deeper into her Artpop era. I think that you have a healthy perspective of things and you are a very cinematic storyteller. Great content. Ive enjoyed every single second of this vid
Let's celebrate ARTPOP now!!!
your videos never fail to be amazing, you're one of my favorites (if not my favorite) on this site
According to 2020 update, Artpop sold about 3 mil copies*
