    Saw him open for Leslie West and Mountain. He walked on stage wearing a red jump suit, with a cross on the back, announcing himself; hi, I'm Mylon LeFevre, and this my band, Holy Smoke. Then he tore the place up. A vivid memory

    I "discovered" Mylon and Broken Heart in 1983. I have heard about the Holy Smoke group, but never heard them preform. Love it. I have seen Broken Heart in concert several times, one of the best, and most sincere Christian music ministries I have ever seen. Thank you for posting!

    Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart were amazing!
    I saw them live 4 or 5 times in the 80s, and volunteered as a set crew helper at a couple of shows in Connecticut as I was part of the ministry, Sonshine Productions, which brought Christian rock bands to Connecticut. In one of those instances, I recall how at one of the Connecticut shows, I watched from backstage as Gayle King (Oprah's friend) did a live, remote interview (she in the studio and Mylon on the stage before the concert) of Mylon for the Channel 3 in Hartford, six o'clock Newscast (Gayle was an anchor at Channel 3 back in those days).
    Great memories!

      +Ray “3Nails1Cross4Given” B Yep, the singing LeFevres were his family (souther gospel). He grew up in it. He wrote the hymn "Without You," in late 50's or early 60's . . . then he got a taste of the wild side, and spent countless years in the rock & roll scene, and yes, he was living the lifestyle, despite the "christian" lyrics.

      We thought Christian Rock was new in the 80s, and our older church brothers and sisters would tell us that Christian Rock already existed when they were growing up in the late 60s and early 70s. I did not really believe them back then, but here's the proof.

      David and the Giants is another group. They actually had a few minor successes (10 miles high, Superlove, late 1960's) in the "regular" music genre before switching to Christian format.

    What's great about this stuff compared to most Christian rock, is that most Christian rock is just rock music with religious lyrics; what we here in this video is rock and roll with a genuine gospel feel. Mylon had a long history in traditional gospel music, so that blend was only natural for him.

    • @bubbadavis7122
      @bubbadavis7122 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Too bad he was stung out on various drugs during this era. And below, a person with the handle "vidform" talks about how sexy he is. Interesting that she finds a person, who has his demeanor and behavior influenced by illicit drugs, to be "sexy." That helps explain why so many guys do drugs (chicks dig it) and why so many girls have their lives ruined (by getting involved with a druggie).

    • @ronfowlermusic
      @ronfowlermusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doubt that he was "strung out"; he probably smoked pot, that was common back then, don't know what else he might have done, don't really care, it's the music that matters.

    • @3Nails1Cross4Given
      @3Nails1Cross4Given 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Bubba Davis What is interesting is how people who call themselves Christian can so easily judge others especially something that supposedly happened over 40 years ago!

    • @bubbadavis7122
      @bubbadavis7122 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ray B I was simply pointing out a fact. He admits himself that he was using drug on a fairly regular basis until around 1980. And yes, it is too bad he was using hard drugs like that, could have been even better. My comment on the women's seeming love of druggies with a guitar (or drum sticks) was simply a commentary on our culture at large.

    • @ronfowlermusic
      @ronfowlermusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bubba Davis did the woman say she loved Mylon because he was on drugs? Sorry, but I still think your comment sounds very judgemental.

If didn't matter what the lyrics were or where our hearts were, there were many people that hated rock music in church.

    In your description notes, you state "Mylon quit music in 1973 after an overdose only to take it back up again in the '80s" - but Mylon has three albums between 77 and 79, before starting doing Christian music with his first release being 1982.
