  • The Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA, is located on 53rd street between 5th and 6th Avenues in midtown Manhattan. If you take the E or M train to the 5th Ave and 53rd street subway station you’ll be right there!
Hours: The museum is open daily from 10:30am to 5:30pm but on Saturday’s they’re open later, until 7pm.
Tickets: If you book tickets online, you save $2 per ticket. If you save your ticket, you’ll get entry to MOMA PS1 in Long Island City for free within 14 days. Free admission to the museum is available for NYC residents on the first Friday of every month from 4-8pm! An adult ticket costs $28, tickets for seniors over 65 and those with disabilities cost $20, tickets for full time students are $15, and children under 16 are free.
For details about tickets and exhibitions, visit MoMA’s official website: www.moma.org/
As you stroll through the galleries, you’ll find paintings such as Jackson Pollock’s expressionist creations, Andy Warhol’s pop art, examples of Pablo Picasso’s cubism artworks, Andrew Wyeth’s realist paintings, Vincent van Gogh’s famous impressionist style, Rousseau’s surrealism, and Brancusi’s modern sculpture.
Interesting exhibits I encountered were Dial A Poem, a moving holograph combined with music, one about artificial intelligence, a sound bath, and Mike Kelley’s colorful, stuffed animal blobs suspended from the ceiling.
    A Brief History:
In the late 1920s, three patrons of the arts wanted to establish a place devoted exclusively to modern art. These three women were Lillie P. Bliss, Mary Quinn Sullivan, and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller. They created The Museum of Modern Art in 1929 along with four additional original trustees. The public loved this establishment and as a result, the museum had to move three times to bigger locations over the next 10 years. In 1939, MoMA was permanently established in this building in midtown Manhattan.
MoMA has a multi-departmental structure which include architecture and design, drawings and prints, film, media and performance, painting and sculpture, and photography. In the 1950s and 60s, expansions took place and another major renovation in 1984 doubled the gallery space. The museum’s collection has grown to approximately 200,000 artworks.
