  • This video was taken on April 20, 2024 at 04:30 UTC. It is on the 20 m ham band (14.220 MHz). I am testing out the impact of the bhi Compact In-Line Noise Eliminating Module. I am using a PAR EF-SWL antenna which is fed into a MFJ-956 Pre-selector. I am recording on a Zoom H4N Pro and listening with AGK k371 headphones.
And to be honest, I am also enjoying the story being told: "Don't Use Your Friend's Rope."
In short, I like it. It works on some signals. It is more noticeable with good headphones, but that is generally true. Since that is the main listening mode on the Belka, this set up makes sense to me.

I have had good luck with my BHI, too. It has made listening to my older radios (FT-897) less fatiguing when operating for long periods of time.

Excellent. I have found the noise reduction a very subtle, but effective way of shaving off some of the more irritating noise. Yes, it makes listening way easier long term. And on headphones small improvements can be bigger than one might expect.

I tested my BHI and it worked better on a portable. Just wondering .. I see you are outside, do you have a way to get your antenna to the inside ? I think I have 4 cables coming from outside, there are some really good answers to that. I mostly use type N for that.

I'm glad the bhi was redeemed, somewhat. I have a flat coax (through-jamb) cable, but I haven't settled down into a single room, nor have I settled on what I think is a sufficient antenna.

@@RSears .. ok. Way cheaper than the Comet / Diamond ones, Amazon has type N ones at like 1/3rd the cost and are the same otherwise. I use them for ADS_B where type N may be desired vs UHF. Maybe cause I am a warm weather guy, I just cringe when I see it is outside, but at least it is not super freezing now.

I guess it works? The issue is always at the price level. At $279.99 I'll pass. I'd rather invest that amount into new modern SDR radio. For $79 to $99 sure it would be fun to play with. Thanks for the demo.

For sure. Value propositions are yours to make! I make no recommendations on anyone's use of their money. It is a wonderful thing that Airspy HF+ Discoverys exist at $200! Thanks for watching and commenting.
For myself, I love not being tied to an office chair and a PC. Alternatively, I just don't want to have to buy a laptop that can handle the 50% duty cycle software and have a bright enough screen just to go outside. Although Framework is finally doing laptops right, frame.work/
