@@dauntlesstark9850 Ehhh. I wouldn't say dead. Team Cherry likes to keep working on games for a long time. Don't think the 4th character is robotic, they feel more wood-like with their head and the cute lil guys that carry their throne. But regardless they do look dope. An yea I could see that explanation for the defect

We know that most, if not all, plants find it almost impossible to grow in the spire due to spireblight, so they must have evolved or *something has changed about the spire* No notes on the hive
I was thinking it was a prolog as well. But I was thinking that because the character "the defect" is with the enemies. What if they are not called that because they are defective, but because they defected from the Spire to join the people attacking?
It looks like the backgrounds slowly transition (trans?), maybe from one act to another. You can see the walled/fortifie area (probs the docks/city from the first trailer) slowly becoming entangled in plants, and then the next act is the swarmed forest. This looks amazing honestly
@ On the official Mega Crit FaQ for the game, there is a under the question that asks if the defect will be back, and he clearly is still in the game, he just might not be playable, or have to be unlocked since his body is in the chest at the end of the trailer
tl;dr the defect or its corpse are still in the spire neow is the new final boss, she's currently in charge and things haven't improved ------‐--------------------- calling it now- the defect is either dead, or imprisoned in the spire. neow took control and will be the new final boss as for why: when you beat the heart, all the characters get a few panels showing what they do. all the other characters are climbing up to the top and heading outside. the defect is the only one walking horizontaly, presumably deeper into the spire. also important to note- the defect is the only character that didn't come from outside of the spire. he's clearly connected somehow to the orb walkers and bronze automaton. he was a construct made in the spire, and malfunctioned or was corrupted by neow. the ironclad, silent and watcher are all people, they have lives outside of the spire, lives they presumably would want to get back to after defeating the heart. the defect doesn't have that- he's only purpose is the mission to destroy the heart, given by neow. so we're in the sequel, the heart was defeated and neow's presumably no longer imprisoned. neow is some sort of life/rebirth deity, so everything growing huge would make sense if she's in charge. she lost 3 if the 4 warriors she used to defeat the heart so she'll make damn sure the only one who hasn't left is going to stick around
The backgrounds are clearly different one from other and I think it's a hint to variances of stages, like you have city and for example hive, and you can choose where to go after defeating boss, and each location will contain specific events, enemies or even relics!
My theory is that its been a LONG time since the first game took place. The spire went into slumber after the first game and has just now woken up after like a 1000 years. The spire has evolved with new treasures and dangers and has attacted new challengers to it. The Ironclad and the Silent are not the same people as in the first game but their decendants, maybe from clans where the strongest one can bear the title. The Defect is obviously the same one cause they are an uniquelly broken robot that does not age but we can see the passage of time in the state they are in.
Makes me think there's going to be a special mechanic for scaling Osty's max hp as well. Maybe something like having it come back stronger every time it dies in combat.
Based on the art of the Defect in the trailer, or the way it's presented, maybe coming across the Defect is one of the events/question marks and we'll get something if we interact with the body or something.
12:10 The weapon the Silent had was a kusarigama, a chain-sickle. That is 100% one of the ninja weapon set. The Necrobinder uses an enormous scythe. But that's more reaper aesthetics than combat style, since they seem to be a caster of necromancy, first and foremost.
oh hey, i was looking to see if someone pointed out the kusarigama! one of my favorite historical weapons as i just think they're neat. looks like it had a counter on it -- generally the chain is used to entangle opponents and the sickle is the part you get into close melee range with, so maybe it counts debuffs to give an attack buff or something?
23:32 Blood wall looks more like Watcher's Spirit Shield tbh Also i feel like the Necro Binder's soul mechanic might have to do with buffing Osty's health, cuz at one point he has 5 max health and at another he has 40
Yeah, I figure the “Soul” cards being added to your hand are like miracles for Watcher, just temporary cards that buff Osty’s HP or make him attack perhaps.
Possibly the summon keyword? The Pull Aggro gave 10 summon which could make sense for both a "mark" (in the Darkest Dungeon style) to prioritize targeting Osty or for increasing its health.
Bro has completely decayed and has overgrowths of purple goo bacteria around him “Nah, we can get him back. We’ll just have to bring a data disk or something”
The real question is are we going to be fighting a bone version of the heart or a new final boss or perhaps the reanimated corpse of the Defect that will be interesting to see after the full release
The second log at the rest site + the ability to draw on the map really makes me think that it's gonna have coop. Like they showed that each character has their own color on the map and why would be able to draw if you are not in coop or a streamer
looks like the doom debuff might be like a die at this amount of hp type thing. for instance, big louse at 16:16 has 6 doom and then dies to exact lethal as soon as its health goes below 6.
Not quite; Osty is doing a multi hit attack doing 5 damage each hit; It has 6 hp and 9 shield. After the first hit it goes to 6 hp and 4 shield, then 5 hp, and then the next hit kills it. Doom seems to be for proccing the effects of other cards, though there is at least one card that turns all of the built up Doom into damage
@@Vexal50Look at the health bar of every enemy that has Doom, specifically the purple part that rises as Doom increases like a reverse of Poison. I think they are right.
@@maxastro Oh I'm aware of the health bar. The problem is we literally can't tell because they were being hit by a multi hit that exact killed them, so its best to assume for now that Doom doesn't do anything on its own and that the health bar visual may simply be to visualize how much damage you would do on any cards or relics that would cause Doom to do immediate damage. EDIT: I rewatched the attack and went through it frame by frame; the doom stacks build up with each hit by 5 from each part of the multi hit, but doom itself never once deals damage despite going up to 20 stacks of doom. I think we can rule out Doom passively dealing damage, at least for now.
@Vexal50 I'm gonna highly doubt that, for the single reason that the health bar effect is *so* reminiscent of poison's effect that it would be genuinely confusing if it didn't do anything. Also someone else pointed out that Osty seems to always deal damage equal to its current health.
@@maxastro just a heads up, updated my comment while you were replying to make an observation; doom doesn't do anything even when it overtakes hp and shield. So if it does anything passively, it didn't do anything in that clip. There was no visual for doom activating either
Obviously I have no idea, but a prediction from me would be that the background changes based on the Act and the boss of that Act. IE @4:33 with the big crater would be for the slime boss, while @6:18 would be for the hexghost or guardian (not really sure which one would fit better)
25:16 Osteo means bones, comes from the greek "ostéon". Osteoporosis just means porous(full of holes) bones, which is what the disease does to your bones.
The second edition title to the guidebook most likely links to the first trailer, where it says that the spire closed for 1000 years and has evolved, hence the 2nd edition, meaning the first game is when the spire first opened.
Maybe this is just copium. But I think the defect will eventually become a playable character. The defect being shown off at the same time as the others and also being locked in a chest similar to when Isaac unlocks Eden in binding of isaac
It really looks to me like there will be the ability to use multiple characters, or I guess more likely have multiplayer co-op. The rest site was a big one, but the other thing that jumped out to me is that so many enemies (3?) attacks are a large charge across the screen that looks like it would hit all of your characters/allies. This animation looks intentionally different from the current just sword swing, etc like animations from the current game.
34:23 Theory, The defect was a rouge robot right? Well that robot was probably a different model or robot and the guy was piloting it. (But hey, that's just a theory) Edit- I'm guessing this game leans more into the defect with robots and their cores.
I would like a balanced watcher, it would be cool to have a watcher, defect + brand new character as a DLC type dealio. But maybe that's asking for too much.
I was trying to look for patterns in the backgrounds and the types of enemies. The hive background has all insect enemies. It might be that part of or all of an act will be the hive. Alternatively before going to an act the part of the spire you go to may be a choice you get to make or randomised like which boss you fight.
I feel like there might be some kind of infection going through the spire based on some enemies we've seen and the background even. A lot of times, you can see little "globs" on enemies or backgrounds and even on the defect, and I highly doubt that it's just the area being unclean
Also curious why Osty (guessing that is the name of the hand for Necrobinder) is a left hand in every frame/scene except @12:37 (all the sudden is a right hand?)
Idea for doom: when the HP of the enemy is reduced to a number equal to or less than their "doom" that enemy dies. Functionally lowering the max amount of damage that needs to be delt to the character while working around attack/damage triggers (example slimes splitting at half HP) I think the symbol is a gravestone which would make sense for this kind of effect. At first thought this may sound like worse poison but in practice I think this creates some very interesting strategies based on the enemies. It would be unique in the game as the only card that let's you kill enemies without actively doing damage of some kind is judgment. I think with the right cards/flavour it could feel distinct enough from poison.
Main mechanical difference from poison would be that it doesn't seem to increase or decrease on its own, which means that unlike poison you can't just stack up a bunch of it and then play defensive.
Not only is the intro weird, but he says the book is titled Top Ways to Conquer the Spire and the all the page transitions call it Top Tips to Conquer the Spire
what if the defect shed his old body and took a new form? also the green sticky note on the book in the beginning definitely has a shape resembling the new unnamed character, so they possibly wrote it...
STS 2 is a PREQUEL to STS 1. You kill the villain in the robot to collect the core (which is CRACKED in the process) and you give it to The Defect when you save him!! 🕵️♂️
I asked Casey if any of the characters were inspired by modded characters and he said no unfortunately 😔so the Vacant resemblance is very coincidental but also I'm glad more people saw it than just me lol.
One thing I can see in the card art is they seem to have taken out a lot of the mystery silhouette man from the colored cards and put the character themselves in more of the art
Anyone know why Frost's videos stopped showing up in my recommended? I still see his shorts, but regular videos will not show anywhere unless i search directly.
The Defect came from somewhere. Whoever/whatever made them probably tried to make stuff before and/or after that did what they were supposed to do rather than whatever the Defect wandered off to do.
Looks like this isn't going to be a thing, and it would take a lot of work to implement, but it would be cool to see our characters changing dynamically based on the relics we have and even the contents of our deck
This is actually pretty epic. Since neow can res people, the Spire musta caught his soul or reinvested him, ir he was corrupted by Dark orbs. Who knows?
Seems like with the doom they're making it so it isn't like Mark or lock on where there's only one card that you can use for that type of build which I really like. Not having a lock on card that's an orb attack in StS is a missed opportunity imo
Honestly I hope they go harder on the lore in this one, since in STS1 we had the recollection event and things implied via cards but not a lot else. I wanna know more about who created the defect. Maybe this is just copium. But I think the defect will eventually become a playable character. The defect being shown off at the same time as the others and also being locked in a chest similar to when Isaac unlocks Eden in binding of isaac
I think that Doom might reduce the max hp of an enemy.
Good catch!
original ironclad's stance was 1:1 Hakumen from Blazblue so they probably didn't wanna hard copy that a second time
34:23
Theory, The defect was a rouge robot right? Well that robot was probably a different model or robot and the guy was piloting it. (But hey, that's just a theory)
Edit- I'm guessing this game leans more into the defect with robots and their cores.
This was my first exposure to this trailer and I was so happy about the improved animations getting so much love
I especially like the animated effects they've added for Power cards
oh no, they removed the different corners for each card type, its gonna be in my head everytime i look at these card
Dude wheres the watcher😭
This lady so much fun to play there's no way she's gone like defect🥲
I would like a balanced watcher, it would be cool to have a watcher, defect + brand new character as a DLC type dealio. But maybe that's asking for too much.
New sitting guy might be divinity related as well.
Hunter Killers! The Zerg Biom Confirmed!
I think that big blue blob when Iroclad casts Hellraiser is the b,lue slime
Also curious why Osty (guessing that is the name of the hand for Necrobinder) is a left hand in every frame/scene except @12:37 (all the sudden is a right hand?)
Idea for doom: when the HP of the enemy is reduced to a number equal to or less than their "doom" that enemy dies. Functionally lowering the max amount of damage that needs to be delt to the character while working around attack/damage triggers (example slimes splitting at half HP)
I think the symbol is a gravestone which would make sense for this kind of effect.
Imagine if you could save/reconstruct the defect and he fights the rest of the run with you
The living statue attacking you so fast, aside from trailer paving, seems to be sort of like a weeping angel reference?
Wohoo got of work early just to catch the newest Frost prime Release
the Runic Eunuch
STS 2 is a PREQUEL to STS 1. You kill the villain in the robot to collect the core (which is CRACKED in the process) and you give it to The Defect when you save him!! 🕵️♂️
I asked Casey if any of the characters were inspired by modded characters and he said no unfortunately 😔so the Vacant resemblance is very coincidental but also I'm glad more people saw it than just me lol.
Legally you would have to say that tho 💁♂️
So maybe you are right.
I mean isn't Downfall made by some of the StS devs though??
The Defect being the final boss would go so hard.
theory: the defect had fixed themselves and is now without defects thus changing their name to something new
One thing I can see in the card art is they seem to have taken out a lot of the mystery silhouette man from the colored cards and put the character themselves in more of the art
28:33 give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Give a man a rat and satisfy his rat desire.
For the part with the seemingly last playable character. What if. Its just an unbroken/(as you joked, non defect) version of the defect.
Ironclad pose is a little too far shifted back with the left shoulder
Nah he's gotta show the enemies his sexy back
i hope dead defect comes up in some way, either as a boss or some kind of secret/event
is that mummified hand in a bottle and anchor in a bottle (20:20), possible previous powers in potions?
Guys the Watcher still in the game they just watching this time
30:54 hmm, where have i seen this pose before 🤔🤔
Maybe the rug will be for sale if you buy all the items on the shop
The silent is my hear me out.
If the Defect is the final boss will we be collecting their orbs instead of keys?
Anyone know why Frost's videos stopped showing up in my recommended? I still see his shorts, but regular videos will not show anywhere unless i search directly.
Be really cool to have like a side quest where we collect peices of the defect to rebuild him
The Defect channeled a darkness orb for too long, it consumed them in the process
I feel like the characters look like they’re entering it at the beginning like they’re on the shores of the spirer
did noone notice that at 7:10 the ironclad had life steal?? whaaat
That was him healing 6 because the end of the fight. His start relic heals you after a fight.
There are 6 spaces around the camp fire. Osty. Neccowafer. Ironman. The Silent. Runicman. And one seat left for the Defect, for when he returns.
The Defect came from somewhere. Whoever/whatever made them probably tried to make stuff before and/or after that did what they were supposed to do rather than whatever the Defect wandered off to do.
Prediction: you will find the watcher dead in a ditch, no acknowledgement, no event, nothing
We predicting release dates? March 2nd.
the relic the silent had looked like a kusargama, which would fit with the kunai of the silent
looks so good I can't wait :D
Looks like this isn't going to be a thing, and it would take a lot of work to implement, but it would be cool to see our characters changing dynamically based on the relics we have and even the contents of our deck
This is actually pretty epic. Since neow can res people, the Spire musta caught his soul or reinvested him, ir he was corrupted by Dark orbs. Who knows?
Seems like with the doom they're making it so it isn't like Mark or lock on where there's only one card that you can use for that type of build which I really like. Not having a lock on card that's an orb attack in StS is a missed opportunity imo
April 31st?
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
Honestly I hope they go harder on the lore in this one, since in STS1 we had the recollection event and things implied via cards but not a lot else.
I wanna know more about who created the defect. I wanna know about the demon the Ironclad made a deal with. I wanna know more about the Silent's tribe. I wanna know shit!!!
TH-cam’s little recap thing gave me the lovely information that: I am in the top 0.1% of viewers(by amount watched) for Frost Prime. And that I watch Frost Prime 27x as much as the average viewer
