Simply incredible house. It's amazing how many of these lovely homes were built but were sadly torn down due to taxes but wonderful that grand houses like this exist. Hopefully someday you can do an episode at Wentworth.

I was lucky enough to see the house in 2006. It was used as the interiors of Pemberley in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. From what I remember, the rooms like the Saloon were in very tough shape before filming, and that having the filming did help them make some updates. The salon was still in quite rough shape when we saw it. The library was relatively in tact, but I don't remember the drawing room at all, there might not have been any furniture there. We were able to go up the beautiful stairs. I adore the long gallery in that house. One thing I really liked about Sudbury is that it was grand, but it still felt like a real home (other than the queen's room!), as though a real family lived there, if that makes sense. The staircase and Long Gallery are real show stoppers at Sudbury , we stood in awe on the staircase trying to take it all in, it is great that the public can use it again after such a long time! We are not fans of the re branding of the house by the National Trust into the childrens country house and hope they return it fully to how it should look... there's plenty for the young ones to do in the museum of childhood in the staff wing without them running unchecked around the main house... we totally felt the same as you that the family feel there lives on! Hi! It really is one of the finest staircases you'd see anywhere! We love Sudbury and hope one day the NT will remove thevchildrens theme from the main house and put it back to how it was... there's a wonderful childhood museum and play area there for the children without spoiling the house. What a magnificent house. The staircase is a piece of art. You are so lucky to be able to walk into the rooms. In the US so many of the historical houses have the rooms roped off. Thank you again for the opportunity to see the grand homes of England.

The staircase and long gallery are our favourite areas! It is unusual for a house of this period to have a long gallery but Lord Vernon loved the style of the earlier Tudor houses and so he had one! Sudbury is a magnificent house and the interior is wonderful... we enjoyed our visit but felt the theming of play areas was inappropriate as there is already adequate play areas in the museum of childhood in the neighbouring staff wing... none the less a stunning place! Hi Neil and Ant hope you are both well. We haven't been here for a long time since it was reworked. Loved the dancing you should be on strictly 😉. The staircase is beautiful loved the carvings and painted panels. It is definitely one of the best we have seen. The long gallery was great with some wonderful paintings ( especially the one of Ant ) and plasterwork. Is the museum still here with the toys etc ? Queen Adelaides bedroom was my favourite so richly decorated and the chest looked fabulous. We must give it a look again as there is much more to see now than when we last visited. Hi Dave and Dawn! Thanks so much for watching and the lovely comments... we went for opening time at 10.30 but it was very busy indeed by 12 so possibly weekdays [ school days ! ] would be better! We were asked to dance like it was 1699 Ant is much more rhythmic than me lol 😆 The house is gorgeous and the fact you can now use the grand staircase is wonderful plus the three additional rooms now being open... I love the long gallery and the grand staircase but it is a good thing we turn the background sound down it was horrendous , like a playground! The museum of childhood is still open and we've done a second short video on it... our weekend has been good thanks 😊 we hope yours has too... very best wishes to you both Neil and Ant 😊

We are certainly not anti children just anti inappropriate treatment of a wonderful old building [ the removal of amazing antiques in favour of dressing up clothes and glitter balls ] it isn't the job of NT to create play areas it is their job to preserve the historic buildings in their care... sending you our very best wishes 😀
I was born in Sudbury and was lucky enough to know the Hall when the Vernon family lived there. I am disgusted to see the state rooms being used for the use of children. A Party Room and the Long Gallery potraits of ancestors with colloquial 'speech bubbles' underneath??? Shame on the National Trust. They have also commandeered the local cricket ground used also for the local team, although the land was bequeathed to the local community in a binding contract by a previous Lord Vernon. Maybe they have plans for a hardcore car park?Heed the warning other National Trust properties...they will be coming for you! So much for preserving the Heritage of Britain.

On the day we visited the long gallery was full of children playing with wooden pull along toys on the beautiful wooden floor... the screaming and the noise was horrendous. We are all for introducing children to historic properties but letting them treat it as a playground isn't educating them to history or learning them how to respect such a beautiful old place... We felt the glitter ball in the ground floor room where furniture has been removed to create another "play space" was equally inappropriate... The NT was set up to preserve and restore these wonderful old houses but with Sudbury they have completely lost the plot... Let's hope at some point sanity prevails and it is returned back to an appropriate state... Best wishes from us both 😊

I enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in Sudbury and although I enjoyed your video very much I was sickened by the disrespect shown to the integrity of the building plus to the existing descendants of the Vernon family who still have a residence in the village. I expect my views will be dismissed as 'old fashioned', but I stand by the idea that 'just because you can doesn't mean you should'. It is yet another example of dumbing down the pride we once felt for our United Kingdom. What can we expect next? A skateboard ramp setup in the ornamental gardens?? Oops, I might give them ideas. Thank you for your interesting video and for having the guts to express your take on the travesty that is happening at Sudbury Hall.
