    I've been watching Formula 1 for years but today after all the changes both in F1 and IndyCar, I find IndyCar series more entertaining to watch than F1. This is coming from a European. Sadly, I don't have a chance to watch it on the TV so I have to find live stream on internet but its worth risking. These guys are driving so good, and the whole race is interesting and intense till the last lap. Hat down to Americans.

    I love what TMS did to the banking.
    I know we aren't getting the IRL-style pack racing that the old configuration brought, but watching drivers like Herta actually make the high-line work in 1 and 2 is gonna grab my attention.
    Overtaking should require talent, and TMS is just the track to show that off.
    This was a fantastic race.

      @@CoSmicGoesRacing oh yeah, I'm curious about that. TMS is considered a super speedway correct? I'm always under the impression that super speedways are 2+ mile ovals. What classifies an oval as a super speedway?

    • @CoSmicGoesRacing
      @CoSmicGoesRacing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In IndyCar's view, it is but it really isn't because it isn't long enough. Fontana, Pocono and Michigan are way faster than Texas. TMS is a mid-size oval much like Motegi, Chicagoland, Charlotte and Homestead.

    What a fantastic race. The highlights were so packed that they didn't even show the multiple passes for the lead between Dixon and Rossi (somewhere around lap 170 I think?).
    I also love that a lot of the action happened deep in green flag runs. Restarts are always hectic, but this race didn't necessarily need them. I think IndyCar did a beautiful thing with the notched front wings and extra aero options.

    This is racing that Formula 1 is lacking, aggressive passes for the lead, position, 3 wide down the back etc. Formula 1 is exciting for one portion, the first lap and after that everyone get into position and usually nothing happens, a pass here and there and race over, another Mercedes 1-2.

I'd say there were 45,000. Given that TMS grandstand has permanent seating for 160,000, that's 1/3rd full. Which is probably correct if you were to bunch everyone close together and compare to the rest of the grandstand. It was my 2nd time for IndyCar at TMS, but first time in about 8 years, it was an outstanding event. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying it immensely!

    Sato has the fastest Honda it seems, but he keeps having bad luck. It's only a matter of time til he wins again. This could have been the one. At Indy he came from middle of the pack to being right in position at the end and finished .32 of a second behind the winner.

      David Chrapla he seems to be under serious pressure. Marcus helps compensate for the team and I can definitely see Ericsson staying with the team possibly into even driving the third full-time car once Wickens is well enough to race again.

    That's good sato,crew man ok,I don't think most people know how tricky these cars are to drive when they are set up for ovals....the cars basically turn into the corner and are work to hold in a straight line pretty wild,an I see tricky when they start to get loose because of that hard left set up,good race....

    As an F1 and v8 supercars fan, both these championships have a team a league above the others and makes the races so boring. F1 mid-pack battles are so exciting, but the WHOLE field of Indycar racing is fantastic.

    Why is the name of the race 600 when the mileage is just under 500?

    • @railfan220
      @railfan220 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 600km, hence the name. I had to look this up, but that translates to about 373 miles. It is a little confusing because the US loves the imperial system.

    Why are seats empty?

    • @helpcomputah94
      @helpcomputah94 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because TMS has WAY too much capacity - 181,000 plus seats (thats 80k more than Daytona for crissakes). Neither NASCAR or Indycar come close to filling the joint. If Indycar got 40k in there, they did fine.

    248 laps? How long is 1 lap?

    • @CoSmicGoesRacing
      @CoSmicGoesRacing 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom Chandler for a track like this, the lap is not really recorded by time but rather by the average speed. Cars can typically go something like 216-223 mph (347-357 km/h) per lap.

      Definitely a great strategy call, but don't ignore the skills behind the wheel. I figured JoNew would cycle back into the pack a bit on his final stop, but he drove the wheels off the thing leading up to it and pitted under green and still held the lead coming out. That's great driving. He also held the lead after two restarts despite Dixon and later Rossi doing all they could to get by him.
