I've been watching Formula 1 for years but today after all the changes both in F1 and IndyCar, I find IndyCar series more entertaining to watch than F1. This is coming from a European. Sadly, I don't have a chance to watch it on the TV so I have to find live stream on internet but its worth risking. These guys are driving so good, and the whole race is interesting and intense till the last lap. Hat down to Americans.
The crewman's response during interview was even more commendable - the drivers risk their lives when they drive we all do what it takes (or something like that).
One of the best races in TMS from start to finish, and the most beautiful this race was not a pack racing. The aerodynamic package worked perfect. Awesome race.
Yep pack racing is ridiculous. Only millennial NASCAR who have been fans for only a short time want it. That is not good racing. It's artificial racing.
I love what TMS did to the banking. I know we aren't getting the IRL-style pack racing that the old configuration brought, but watching drivers like Herta actually make the high-line work in 1 and 2 is gonna grab my attention. Overtaking should require talent, and TMS is just the track to show that off. This was a fantastic race.

In IndyCar's view, it is but it really isn't because it isn't long enough. Fontana, Pocono and Michigan are way faster than Texas. TMS is a mid-size oval much like Motegi, Chicagoland, Charlotte and Homestead.
What a fantastic race. The highlights were so packed that they didn't even show the multiple passes for the lead between Dixon and Rossi (somewhere around lap 170 I think?). I also love that a lot of the action happened deep in green flag runs. Restarts are always hectic, but this race didn't necessarily need them. I think IndyCar did a beautiful thing with the notched front wings and extra aero options.
Gabriel Sagadin Marcus is a smart driver when he gets it right. His pit crew is impressive majority of the time. He just needs to keep being consistent and maybe he could challenge Ferrucci and Rosenqvist for the overall Rookie of the year.
This is racing that Formula 1 is lacking, aggressive passes for the lead, position, 3 wide down the back etc. Formula 1 is exciting for one portion, the first lap and after that everyone get into position and usually nothing happens, a pass here and there and race over, another Mercedes 1-2.
Hopefully we should get an interesting race tomorrow. The top 3-4 grids are very mixed up, Vettel first pole in a while, we got Max starting 11th so he’ll have a busy day.
@Daniel Wolfe yea this is becoming outrageous, it's absolutely so stupid to limit the factor of "racing" out of racing. Now F1 drivers can't do anything without fearing a penalty.
I'm a lifelong Formula One fan and I really don't like seeing cars racing on ovals but this race was amazing. Cars chasing each other closely from start to finish. I need to pay more attention to Indy now.
I totally agree. I'll just say though for what it's worth....I was at the race and it truly felt like there were a lot of people there, even though it looks the way it does on TV. I'd say there were 45,000. Given that TMS grandstand has permanent seating for 160,000, that's 1/3rd full. Which is probably correct if you were to bunch everyone close together and compare to the rest of the grandstand. It was my 2nd time for IndyCar at TMS, but first time in about 8 years, it was an outstanding event. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying it immensely!

@@CoSmicGoesRacing I am not a big Rossi fan, but he's also my pick for series champion. Every race has shown us just how good he is. The Penske boys get a lot of help from pit stop speeds and strategy. He works his way up the field.

You can’t really compare the two. Ones a spec series on ovals the other is a formula on circuits with almost unlimited budgets. I love and appreciate both for what they are.

Very good race, the title battle will be between Newgarden and Rossi. Takuma Sato is a stranger driver, is very good in some races and sometimes make mistake of rookie.

Pure TriXXX it took Max many seasons of F1 to finally start showing some maturity at the wheel to complement his massive talent. Herta is just a rookie and will surely improve.
The venue is just massively oversized, I think the specator numbers are decent, especially compared to what they drew in the past and in comparison to Nascar.
Rossi has finished in 2nd place while fighting for 1st 3 times in the last 4 races. Twice losing to Newgarden. Combined, he was 1.8 seconds too slow from having 4 wins and a 2nd indy 500 win this season. He's got to have the red mist in his eyes. Should be an exciting 2nd half of the season.
Sato has the fastest Honda it seems, but he keeps having bad luck. It's only a matter of time til he wins again. This could have been the one. At Indy he came from middle of the pack to being right in position at the end and finished .32 of a second behind the winner.
tbf, those stands are massive. Were still quite a few thousend people there. But yeah, it is sad, when you know a certain parade will have a sellout crowd in Montreal today.
David Chrapla he seems to be under serious pressure. Marcus helps compensate for the team and I can definitely see Ericsson staying with the team possibly into even driving the third full-time car once Wickens is well enough to race again.

As an F1 and v8 supercars fan, both these championships have a team a league above the others and makes the races so boring. F1 mid-pack battles are so exciting, but the WHOLE field of Indycar racing is fantastic. also bring back the Indy race on the Gold Coast
It's 600km, hence the name. I had to look this up, but that translates to about 373 miles. It is a little confusing because the US loves the imperial system.
Because TMS has WAY too much capacity - 181,000 plus seats (thats 80k more than Daytona for crissakes). Neither NASCAR or Indycar come close to filling the joint. If Indycar got 40k in there, they did fine.
Tom Chandler for a track like this, the lap is not really recorded by time but rather by the average speed. Cars can typically go something like 216-223 mph (347-357 km/h) per lap.
Definitely a great strategy call, but don't ignore the skills behind the wheel. I figured JoNew would cycle back into the pack a bit on his final stop, but he drove the wheels off the thing leading up to it and pitted under green and still held the lead coming out. That's great driving. He also held the lead after two restarts despite Dixon and later Rossi doing all they could to get by him.

Honestly qualifying has been the most exciting portion of F1 race weekends for this season so far.

F1 has turned into a gentleman racing series.....no fighting for position the only passing is down a straight with DRS.....
