without a doubt, one of the most clutch players to play the game,..especially catcher,...no one could be as great as him, her played on a different level, even now,..still my favorite player of all time

Greatest catcher of all time and my favorite baseball player. I still remember watching him play his last game and just as he'd done in the past he brought the Riverfront Stadium crowd to their feet with a two run homerun. As a young 14 year old kid growing up in Cincinnati I fully understood the gravity of the moment, watching the best to ever play his position coming thru for the fans of Cincinnati, one more time. My how fast the time goes by.

Tony Perez loved Johnny Bench. I loved how he would say Johnjy with his barrantone Hispanic accent.

Bench led all players in RBI in the 70s . Perez was second. And they often batted next to each other in the lineup. That Reds team was full of MVPs, batting champions , RBI leaders and gold glove fielders . If you look at the number of awards that line up received in the 70s it's pretty incredible

      I agree.
A case can be made for Gary Carter or Yogi or even Josh Gibson.
And for just hitting Piazza was the best.
But if I Had to pick one guy as catcher I don’t see me doing too much second guessing on going with Johnny. ✌️

Horseshit. Most overrated team of all time. They were not even close to being the greatest team even of the 1970s. Oakland was. That big red machine crap lasted 2 years 1975 an 76. Only won 2 world series

Gene Tenace is one of the most underrated players in MLB history…
That being said -A squeeze play with Tenace as the runner?? -
In the World Series?? - With Bench catching ?? 🧐✌️…
Well, Regardless The A’s did end up winning that Series.

Ask Pete Rose, and he will tell you in detail why Bench is the best all round catcher ever.

Brooks said he wasn't Clutch in the 1970 WS . Just Sayin .🤣

I went to game 4 of the 1970 WS. Lee May was the only bright spot for the Reds, as he prevented the sweep. Brooks was pretty damn clutch! He won the MVP.

@@Shindler39 Yes it was. The game. And world for that matter has gone soft. Safety this safety that. I mean these guys wear oven mitts to slide into bases now. Every time they slide the first thing out of the announcers mouth is, "he seems to be ok." What a joke these guys are pansies!
