The early parts of this video seemed a bit all over the place, but at 1:50 , to me it becomes a little like striking gold. Because Martha is saying that she's sleepy, very tired, and it seems clear that she really does not want to go out on stage and play.I certainly don't know what it feels like to be able to play like her, but I sure know what it feels like to be tired and to not want to go to work. She IS a human being. I hope she's well rested and feeling great right now.💖

I’d hate to have to travel, sleep in strange beds, eat different foods, be unacquainted with the city, have to stand in a reception line several hours and, of course worse of all, having to chit-chat with complete strangers. Quick, give me a drink! And I’m a non-drinker! The concert artists we think WE know and love have every right to their privacy, what if they need to potty? 🎼🎹🎹🎹🎹🎶🎶🎶

For one gifted or talented, it is easy to communicate, or say what most can say and execute this in a proficient manner, but a genius is able to say what most are unable to say this may be impossible for even the most talented person to do, because a genius has a gift spirit and self discovery and develops through listening, concentration and mental picturing to hear and evaluate one's own playing. This ability to listen to every detail of one's own playing allows that special person to pursue their own musical image, vision, or feeling whileat the same time find the suitable technical solution that satisfies what they are imagining. They form a mental map or picture leading towards their destination early on. Many great teachers and great pianists including, Liszt, Neuhaus, and even one of Martha's teachers Vincenzo Scaramuzza, thought that listening, concentrating, and mental picturing was important. For the genius realizes these things and their playing like Martha's doesn't just replicate someone else's ideas. They didn't need to waste time with the traditional way of piano teaching of meaningless exercises and studies which undermine the ability to think and listen to oneself, and for the truly talented such practice just leads to mindless repetition void of magination or mental image leading nowhere with no goal or even worse leading to physical problems. As one put it, to a genius, "technique is the art of materializing an image of what we have decided we want to hear." So, good techniqe a more process of self discovery through listening, concentrating and evaluating ones own playing which leads to developing ones individual way to play different from the usual and simetimes even courageous. Individuality in art can't really be taught it is discovered by the artist which also has open mind, spirit and not only imagines posibilities but communicates them like Martha. Martita is an enigma who must know we love and continuously think about her in the most beautiful way.

@@Chopin-Etudes-Cosplay Yeah that was insane how performing that crazy improvisation was just another day for Cziffra

@@SchlurmsOfficially Yea, but not sure how meme-able he is. BTW if you like Cziffra I highly recommend his autobiography. It's fairly short and you can read it entirely for free online. Made me both laugh and cry.

@@Chopin-Etudes-Cosplay Yeah I agree it might be difficult to make one of these videos about him as he doesn't have a sort of meme-able personality like Gould or Horowitz and in most videos where he is talking he's not speaking English. I've also been thinking of reading his autobiography but didn't know it was available for free online so thank you for telling me, I'll definitely be reading it

This is like my 4th time watching this video and I just noticed that you put the opening of the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 1 at the end, the first piano concerto I learned. Thanks! Also, you should make one of these vids for Pollini; you could show him giving a speech about the communist manifesto before the concert lol.

Because of her status and wealth, she's one of the few classical musicians that can get away with such capricious behavior...concert promoters wouldn't tolerate it from another lesser established artist...they'd just wouldn't engage them for any concerts...but from everything I've read, she's a charming woman, not diva-like at...so I LOVE her...

Weren't you the guy claiming a while ago that classical music was dead. Fun polemic to get the juices up. I do like this angle, featuring the greats; none greater than MA since JSB. I like your stuff so I'll subscribe, even with the merest chance that Martha has time to see my comment.

If only. Anything I’ve ever read about her or even interviews she’s given (which have been few) she has said she never reads anything about herself. She finds it embarrassing. Only Argerich could think this way.
