I have just started reading Noh plays, and while I will be watching more Noh videos, this is the first, and that costume is unbelievably gorgeous. I read somewhere that originally the costumes followed the fashions of the day, but later were made so that the colors, shapes, light, and so on were chosen to be beautiful in and of themselves, and presumably to enhance the movements of the dance.

I'm somewhat terrified by the movements and stomping. Imagine seeing this thing in the middle of the night...
