  • Get Surfshark VPN at surfshark.deal... - Enter promo code TRILOGY for 83% off and 3 extra months for FREE! *** We’re about to CONFRONT A SCAMMER in Kolkata, India. He has no idea that he’s about to see us, he doesn’t even know we’re in his country. But he knows who we are, and some of you may know him as well. He’s an ex-scammer that we refer to as Monu. He’s an ex scammer, or some may say current scammer, who repeatedly lied to us at Trilogy Media, duped us out of money, and harassed our Squad for months trying to solicit donations from them directly. After repeated lies from him and promises that he’ll stop, it continued, and continued, and continued. For this video, we’re currently in Kolkata, India filming several different projects, and while we’re here, we’re gonna trick Monu into our hotel room, and Art and I are going to walk out of the bathroom to confront him. And you won’t believe the look on his face. And make sure you watch to the end to see something that’s never happened to us on this channel.

I donot understand why do white people fall so easily for these ruthless criminals and beggars. I am from Kolkata, and just from the first glances of this "Monu" I could tell he is a fraudster.
Yeah, may be I am judgemental, but we have to judge people head to toe everyday, to stay safe. This Monu has a scammer vibe about him, that bleached hair, full sleeve t-shirt...this dressing sense alone says he is from a shabby background(yes, we have to judge this way, sorry but this is a reality here). Just ask any Indian how does he feel about this person from first glance.
It would be an honour for me to punch this despicable kid and instill some values in him. A slap or two will fix him...and I am sure, that's the only way.

I never trusted him. And I'm glad when I thought I should donate I just said no. Especially knowing that many people said he har@ssed them repeatedly for money. Also as someone who dealt with someone like this for 8 years, those tears remind me of fake narcissistic tears. I can't feel bad for this person. I've also been poor and never resorted to this type of thing

I don’t think Monu has changed his ways but I’d like to be proven wrong but I think if a scammer reaches out and really wants help, Art & Ash should really utilise Jaani to track the locations of these individuals so worst case they get ripped off like Monu did with them at least they know where to confront them

@@mikle2129 id say a scammer quitting scamming is like a heroin addict giving up or a prostitute stopping working because there is no bennefit to the scammer if he stops then he loses a big income an wouldnt get 10% of that in a real job what happens most is they just close 1 business when its reputation is too destroyed to turn a profit then open another (its easy to do just register a business that looks real an rent ashit hole in india then get a few phones and an take all ya staff to the new location) probably do it in less than a week new names new locations and some fake positive reviews online.. but yh the guy in this video pissed me off from the start with the fake tears and the hugging for no reason trying to manipulate their anger into lovelyness which they did let happen and his grasp of english was bull aswel because 1 minute he understood well next min hes hiding behined his indian friend saying he didnt understand bla bla bla.. im not saying they should go in all guns blazing but they should be straight to the point fire a question at him then allow him to explain a little then question etc because what they have effectivly done is used their own fans money to support a bloody scammer then the scammer just mugged them off then when they go to "confront him" he mugs them off in person with crocodile tears. I like what they do an their hearts in the right place an i like art but the other 2 should stay at home for sure they bring nothing to the table when out an about doing a confrontation but they have other skills maybe such as tech skills uno i basically think they should get training or get other people to do the confronting while they focus on the tech but art should still do confrontation cos hes good lol an he wasnt about to be a soft fanny until ash started hugging him an licking his arse 🙄

Speaking as an Indian, be very careful when dealing with indians below 30, boys and girls alike. Everyone here ends up being very experienced with emotional manipulation. Actions like crying and hugging should not be taken on face value, no matter how genuine it seems. It's almost always done as an opening move to relieve tension and change any anger to sympathy/pity.
The only gesture that you can trust is genuine, when the person is feeling real guilt or atleast shame and fear, is when the person shuts up, moves to a corner, holds their hands together, and look down to hide their face. (You've seen this on the Indian money mules you've confronted in front of their homes).
Obviously I'm not saying all of us Indians are liars or such, it's not true, but when you're dealing with scammers, these people are not the moral Indians you're dealing with anymore, it's the scum who have very predictable behaviour.
btw, Jaani's english is improving, he could do some legit hindi/english translation work.

I agree, making the first move by hugging really ensured the guys weren't going to be too angry towards him. He used that as a tactic, whether it was conscious or not. It wasn't true remorse.

@@triptic6144 They did say that out of 10 scammers that have reformed, only monu betrayed them. I think they're naive both because they've never been burned before, and think this is just an exception, and because Americans rarely see the same kind of criminals we see here, over there criminals are usually very blatant and terrible actors.

This was a perfect conversation in the form of an intervention and this is why:
These are 2 things they DID NOT do:
    1. Grant lenience through soft expectations
    2. Belittle and demean him
These are things they DID do:
    - Told him what he did wrong, how it affected them, and they expressed their frustration with him
    - Explained that their trust was broken, and emphasized that it would need to be earned over the course of the next coming months
    - Set boundaries and expectations for the future
    - Explained to him that they know he's a good person and that he is capable of change
    - They left with everyone feeling motivated to see him hold himself accountable
This was brilliant- A BRILLIANT demonstration of communication, mercy and tough love and intervention. Everything was talked about and put on the table. Everyone was civil and left understanding exactly what was either expected of themselves or exactly what they should expect from the other person involved.
I am so so so proud of this. Great job to everyone involved. Ashton, Art, Janni, Monu, and everyone behind the scenes. I really pray that Monu keeps his word, and that things will be brighter these coming months ahead.

The people who he begged from were probably people who didnt have the money to spend and probably are in a bad situation as well. People who have the least on this channel or in general have the biggest hearts and think about others. This guy was continuing to lie. He said he didnt speak English but clearly he could speak perfectly. I think it seemed natural to screw over people. I’m very split on this. On one hand, Monu had been doing this for a whole year, despite MANY requests for him to stop, and it took him getting caught and confronted to make him stop. But on the other hand, as was pointed out, he’s a very young man who grew up in poverty. He has a lot to learn about right and wrong, and the value of trust. And since he grew up in poverty, he probably grew up on the “get money any way you can” mindset. Trilogy Media (and by extension, the squad) were probably the first people ever to show him generosity and help him, and he ended up taking advantage of it, without realizing how wrong it is. But there is one thing I do believe. I think it was a little too nice to buy him a topi (please tell me if I spelled that right) this early. You had just confronted him, and told him how he had no right to do what he did, and then get him set up with a business. That’s way too early. Let me throw a hypothetical at you. A child has been misbehaving like crazy for the past year; acting up every chance he could, never doing his homework, and maybe getting into fights. Despite telling him to stop many times, he keeps doing it. Then you finally have a confrontation with him, and give him a reality check. He realizes that the way he’s been acting was wrong, and he feels sorry (giving him the benefit of the doubt). Do you say, “good boy, now how about we go to Chuck E. Cheese?” No, you wait a while, giving him time to prove that he means it, and gain your trust back. THEN you take him to Chuck E. Cheese, as a reward for turning himself around. Am I saying Monu is a bad person? No. Am I saying he’s beyond redemption? No. I’m just saying you jumped the gun a bit by buying him a business this early. It feels like you’re rewarding him for his bad behavior. You should have given him a few months, to prove that he’s not just telling you what you want to hear; then offer to help him. I apologize for how long this was. Thank for reading it all the way through

You can´t compare this to a child misbehaving. We´re all over here in the so called rich west. Unless you yourself are in a position where you have absolutely nothing to loose, then you basically have no right judging someone who´s in that situation. It's a very thin line between having it 'all' and having absolutely nothing. So why the need to punish him any further? Does anyone think that would do any good? They told him that what he's done hurt them, was wrong. I do believe his tears were real. I also believe those tears ran much deeper than just this. And above it all I hope he makes his dreams come true, cause in the end that's what will make him want to be better, do better, and be the person he was meant to be.

You are absolutely right. I am surprised how naive could one get. Triology Media, I suppose was here to catch scammers and it was also doing quite well in that. But by getting scammed itself the team has come across to be no smarter than those poor nannies who get easily duped by the scammers. And think of it, they get swindeled the 2nd time. Haven't they heard, once a lier always a lier. Triology Media needs to do some self learning and training on human/criminal psychology. I am sure the channel will not come up with a sequal of Monu's story. That guy will never change. Don't we know people who can laugh and then break down into sobs with little time lapse between the two extreme emotional displays.

My family and friends were more than patient with me, however I am still a big preacher of these two phrases: "Actions speak louder than words" and "Past behavior dictates future behavior" nowadays. While I was unaware of Monu's actions over the past year and was curious to see what had become of him, I am severely disappointed to see this. Monu has a long and hard hill to climb and he may never gain your full trust back IF he is actually honest in his apologies. I can see a lot of my 21 year old self in him, not the scamming or the dance moves (man I wish I had a percentage of those moves at that age), so it would make me a hypocrite to condemn him. All I can do is wish him the best of luck with his business and that long hard climb to redemption.

Well done for helping Monu, guys. This was beautiful to see, how you decided to go beyond judgement and break the virtual barrier to actually touch this young man's life.
People will have all sorts of opinions based on this utopia that a person has only one chance to be good, ignoring the fact that life is made of cycles. Some are good, others are horrible and sometimes we're stuck. And it's very hard to break through, especially when you're as young as Monu, and have life that is surrounded with hardships. Hardships that most of these commenters will never understand, and therefor pretend to be on some high moral platform. How easy it is to pass judgement, and how uncommon it is to truly extend empathy and compassion. Even when trust is broken. Even when there's a chance it will be broken again.

What Art said really hit home with me ‘if someone wants a job, they find one’ - I’ve bounced around a few jobs but I always kept that same mentality, if I wanted a job I was going to get one. Im not sure if I find Monu genuine but I hope I’m wrong. Work hard and it’ll all pay off in the end. Keep up the great work guys!

I am disappointed in what monu did, but i aggree with the phrase art said "actions speak louder than words". So if he can follow through on this small cart business thanks to Janni stepping up like a BOSS, i believe he can get some HONEST work going for him. Trust is EARNED and NOT GIVEN.

What I think all of you forget is that he’s raised an environment where deceit mistrust and scamming is a prevalent part of life. To break that cycle is insanely difficult. You can see the kid has a good heart and is trying to break the mold, but it is not an easy task, especially when you’re surrounded by it on a daily basis.

@@mrwoody1413 environment plays a big factor in a persons actions and thoughts. Surround yourself by scammers and you’ll end up doing the same. He got addicted to the easy money that comes with scamming someone emotionally/physically. Kind of like once a drug dealer always a drug dealer. Once you get used to the easy money there’s no going back lol

    • @kkrb1212
      @kkrb1212 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yup agreed. He’s still so young and doesn’t know really anything else. It’s easy tk sit back in America and from a privileged perspective say he can do better but it’s the same kind of thinking on why it’s hard for people to get out of the hood or young kids in poor neighborhoods trying to stay out of gangs which is how they get conned into or not given much choice. It’s a very common way of life there and it’s all he’s surrounded by it takes a while to understand and learn.

It is a tough situation. I am glad you did this. Earning back broken trust is very difficult, sometimes impossible for some. As you guys told him, you do what you have to in order to support your family. I have worked many jobs I didn't like to keep a roof over our head. Part of that is maturity and self respect. When I was his age I was in the military. I also became very addicted to gambling and ended up not taking care of bills. I screwed up a lot and paid the price for it. I now chalk it up to being young and dumb. Taking advantage of a gift horse can be one of those missteps.
I hope he takes away with him this hard lesson, but he is still very young and dumb decisions is sometimes part of the road to adulthood.
    Good luck

This is why you never trust Indians or feel bad for them because they take advantage of that. This goes wrong especially for people with big heart and feel bad easily for people because people like him take advantage of that .

No matter how controversial this video might have been, this video was really great. Thank you Ashton, and Art and everyone in Trilogy Media. I have known throughout my entire lifetime that we are all not perfect human beings. There have been times in our lives in which we have made decisions that were not positive, and there have been times in our lives in which the decisions that we have made have been positive. Sometimes we treat people badly without even knowing why we are treating them badly. Everyone has a unique story to tell, and you never know when you might come across someone who has had a similar story or has lived a similar life as yourself. I have learned to give people chances when I feel that they deserve those chances in life, in fact I think that millions of people deserve second chances. Jaani is awesome for what he has done for Monu, and when I have a friend who has been in a much worse situation as myself, I would reach out to them and give them a helping hand. It is what friends do, we help each other, we strengthen each other, and in life, we understand our world with each other, stronger, each day.

I like this partnership I see between you two, Ashton is the voice of reason while Art gives the "I better listen to this guy or he will rip my head off feel", while the video itself was difficult to watch due to Monu already knowing he messed up, and seeing someone cry automatically makes me want to cry as well, You guys handled this situation so well and so mature and I think I learned a little bit about how to handle life situations like this in the future just by watching this video.

Well I’ve watched the whole video. I think he was crying because he probably thought something was gonna happen to him and he was scared… not because he was happy or sorry … did I believe his tears .. No. He just likes to scam people because that’s how some people are. And Jaani was so nice to buy him that store cart.. thank you Jaani. I Hope that this young man changes for the better. Some people do deserve chances and some people don’t. I hope the best for him.
