Whaaaaaat? The same corruption that leads to one of the most consistent archetypes in ascension as the ironclad? I play ascension 14 as my default mode, and my winrate wouldn’t be half as good if corruption didn’t exist. Corruption is a beautiful card ❤️
Corruption is horrible without dead branch. There are much better choices then it. I don't see how it is one of the most consistent archetypes compared to the others the ironclad has, but to each their own.
It’s got quite a bit more going for it than just dead branch synergy. It’s a strong enabler for a block/body slam deck. Surprisingly good with Nilrys codex. And pretty much any exhaust synergy card. Noteable ones being feel no pain, exhume, dark embrace(situationally). But it can also be used to bolster a strength deck that lacks survivability. Frequently I’ll use it as a means to thin out a deck over the course of a fight, leaving you with a specific series of attack cards. Also, if you are lucky enough to get ice cream, you can pull off some crazy stuff. Try not to think about the card as being restricted to a specific synergy, it often shines as a strong value-proposition card that can easily be leveraged into game-winning synergies. Most of the runs I win with the ironclad will have corruption in the deck. It’s a card you have to play around with a bit to figure out it’s many facets.
I mean...he did win in the end. He did at least choose cards after that which helped it work. Even so, I'm hard pressed to say if it helped him more or hurt him more.
Double tap/Rampage isn't as good as you think it is. The second attack is just a temporary image of the card that gets the bonus and instantly exhausts. It doesn't work like Claw in that every Rampage you use affects every other one. It's far more useful in a thin deck where you can continually recall 1 specific instance of it.
Something I've never paid enough attention to: Do cards exhausted in that way go into the exhaust pile, though? Like could you feasibly double-tap into extra cards by way of exhume, or no?
NL, you should really prioritize getting rid of basic strikes and defends. Early in the video you said you wanted to go for a rampage deck, if that's the case, then those basic strikes and defends are almost curses, which would you rather draw, a 6 damage strike or a 30 something damage rampage? If you don't remove your strikes and defends, it's way more likely you're gonna draw the 6 damage strike. I know you're probably thinking "I know, but I want the benefits from relics and other good cards and it seems like the benefits of those outweigh the negatives of the basic cards". To an extent this is true, but your decks would work *even better* if they didn't have basic cards clogging them up. You can take better advantage of your relics and cards if you have cards that work well with your relics, and can actually draw your good cards. By comparison, there's pretty much nothing that is improved by having basic strikes in your deck, besides potential fodder for exhaust, perfected strike, or healing with eternal feather. Those benefits are marginal at best, it really is worth spending 100, 150, 200 gold getting rid of a basic card. Tl;DR: Remove basic cards more often PS: you *may* want to reevaluate when you rest and when you upgrade, but sometimes it's a close call
I mean defend is a fine card, as long as you remove all strikes and a couple defends its fine. The issue is he just ignores card removal cause he thinks more cards mean a better deck
I agree, picking a card early and building a deck 'round it is much better then your first run where you start building a deck 'round cards you don't have.
Just so you would no the comments are mainly jokes I couldn't care less of you are good or bad at this game, I just enjoy watching the content. Keep up the good work
I just played the game for the first time. Managed to win with 1 HP against the blue monster who revives. Then proceeded to get stomped with the Silent and the Defect. This game's harder than you all make it look. Now I know Ryan is pretty good at it.
"It's not as good as a limit break spot weakness combo." Uhh... especially in a limit break situation inflame is better. Once you have ANY strength you dont want to ever play spot weakness anyway since each limit break is way more str-up and every attack is worth playing moreso than a +3str from spot weakness. And if you only need to play it once, inflame is WAY better since it exhausts itself and does not require an enemy to be attacking in order to function. Please NL, PLEASE realise that inflame is better than spot weakness and flex in most situations. Also, I once again mention that for a guy who never has enough block and keeps dying on easy battles with the easiest-to-play character, you sure as hell skip over a lot of metallicizes. Its such a good card, stop ignoring it.
Spot Weakness is one of my least favourite Ironclad cards: on turns when you can use it, you rarely get immediate benefit from it (because you're one energy down and need to block), and if you draw it on a turn when you're not being attacked then it's a dead card. Flex is probably my favourite combo for Limit Break because it's 8 strength now / 4 strength for the rest of the fight for only 1 energy if you draw them together, and still useful if you don't.
HE SKIPPED OVER FOUR METALLICIZES!?!?!?!?!? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Ryan. I love you, man, but I don't know if I can keep watching your show. This is just bad for my health now.
NL sleeps on metallicize so hard. It synergies with plated armor and/or orichalcum so hard, and if you stack them it's even better. 2 Met+s on the field is a free 8 block every turn. Pair that with, say, ori and threaded needle, and you have 18 block every single turn, or 14 with only one metallicize+
NL loved so much the Exhaust deck that he tries to turn every deck into one with Corruption.... Boy.... Wait for Dead Branch, THEN you try to build a Corruption deck! Barricade will protect some of the blocks, but they are still gonna be exhausted if you don't have a card generating engine.
Pain is both the best, and the worst, curse. You get Pain + Rupture and it's basically a hard carry though esp with Bottled Tornado to guarantee the combo.
Gets Reaper. "This would be very good if we can get a strenght build going." Has Juzu Bracelet. Sees Cursed Bell. "I think I'm going to take Snecko Eye"
I’m so tempted to do a play-by-play critique of one of NL’s runs to give him a more comprehensive guide for ascension. I’ve played more slay the spire ascension 14 than I’d be proud to admit, and I see him making all the same mistakes that I used to make. But then again, it wouldn’t be nearly as fun to watch if he didn’t play as fast-and-loose as he does.
Nobody really wants to watch a video detailing every single mistake they make, that doesn't sound fun either. Just send him a message on twitter or whatever if you have tips.
The sneko eye you should never talk unless most of your deck is expensive. The card draw is nice but doesn’t mean crap if those cards cost three. I mean theirs a slight chance they cost zero but the chances aren’t that high.
Is un-upgraded armaments garbage? It kinda seems garbage. Even upgraded seems trash later into the run where all the important things are already upgraded.
31:00 I know that by taking 'that' relic he's preparing for Barricade and Demon Form and the like, but what's the point if most cards you have are 1 Costers and you die a few fights into the second floor because of a few dead draws. Idk. I personally dislike 'that' relic (I know the decks that can use it are good but that's besides the point) and it seems like too much of a gamble in Acension to go for it without the setup. Would have taken energy relic.
Do you really even have a clue on how to play StS? Corruption is good, but more than half the decks NL tries to make involving it are just so bad. He constantly tries to make Barricade/Corruption work, but doesn't realize he needs synergy besides just those, AND he needs to both be able to play those cards and get them on the field quickly, that of which isn't easy to do in a fat as fuck deck full of bloat. You really shouldn't take Corruption unless you have Dead Branch or a lot of high cost skills.
8:09 I could compile a decent list of reasons on why the heck not.
Why would u upgrade basic defend over whirl wind NL 😭
Rampage is for thin decks. You need to minimise the chance of not drawing it. Your thin decks aren't thin at all.
NL think a thin deck is around 25 cards. All the dailies with hoarder made him think that thick decks are ones that have over 50 cards.
Lol so true Nurtai.
For the record I just won an Ironclad ascension with an 11 card deck. That's thin.
I die everytime he takes corruption.
I hope learns the power of Demon form when it comes to late game now.
Whaaaaaat? The same corruption that leads to one of the most consistent archetypes in ascension as the ironclad? I play ascension 14 as my default mode, and my winrate wouldn’t be half as good if corruption didn’t exist. Corruption is a beautiful card ❤️

@@bentleytcoleman fair I just have ditaste to the relic it's too RNG for me. I like me clean concise I know what I got deck
Every time he rests before the Hexaghost I die a little inside
Snecko Eye in a deck with mostly 1 cost cards, and a couple of 2 cost. Interesting strat. Clearly I have much to learn about this game.
Its all because card draw is so valuable, much more than the drawback of more expensive cards
I almost physically recoiled when he chose it.
I mean...he did win in the end. He did at least choose cards after that which helped it work. Even so, I'm hard pressed to say if it helped him more or hurt him more.
Pro Tip: You probably shouldn't use NL's STS abilities as a learning basis, as he himself definitely has a lot to learn
Snecko Eye as a first item with almost any 2/3 cost cards is fine. Easy to build a winning run around.
he thinks that 17 cards deck (also only act 1) is thin...
Will NL ever stop resting before Hexaghost? Find out next time!
300 episodes later
He did it once, a few episodes ago, even mentioned how he shouldn't rest, but he forgets.
I remember that. I was so proud. Too bad that's over. :(
I have my doubts, probably would’ve won the first boss fight had he upgraded instead of resting

HitchensImmortal But if rampage is at 16+ dmg then double tap is really good.
Headcrab, I believe they do.
Aka a really inconsistent, difficult-to-pull-off combo deck that generally leads to an early death.
It is, Mharv, but the bonus is only applied on the card that survives. And you have to get it to 16+ first for that to even be the case.

36:27 doesn't upgrade his hand before attacking made me physically hurt
46:18 he had perfect lethal....
I literally yelled at the screen at this.
He was waiting for feed probably (he actually probably didn’t notice but if he did he would’ve waited)

He could have 5 Metallicize+ in that last run, sure it would have been win either way, but could be so fun with 20 armor each turn.
Oh man. All these NOT dual wielding cheaper versions of expensive cards is killing me.

So NL is an egg, but was a bird as a kid. And he has two human sons who are cats. As a biologist, this makes perfect sense.
nl, you should value upgraded blind more. ironclad with mass weakness is great
"We have an agnostically good deck"
*dies to first boss*

"I think I'm going to take Snecko Eye"
Juzu Bracelet stops you from encountering normal fights in ? rooms - you're thinking of Du-Vu Doll.
He finally upgraded a defe... no yea its way better to upgrade defend than whirlwind. Thank you egg
Everytime you rest before the Hexaghost, a Tomo gets turned into spaghetti.
22:03 I was scared but you didn't hurt me. Thanks Dad
NL sleeps on metallicize even with frozen egg.
Sick Madness/Snecko Eye combo bruh
+Northernlion mistake!! 5:30 instead of healing, you shoulda upgraded.. less HP on that boss means smaller hits ;) 7:15 BLESS YOU! :D great win!! :D
im so glad that after 300 episodes nl still commits the same mistakes.
the part that i am glad is that i only watch an episode per week
only snecko eye can carry such an egg
Dont know why but the bit at 31:20 was so fuckin funny
Finally discovering the power of sneko and freemonform...
I would argue normality is the worse curse. Pain has a synergy with ironclad which is amazing with limit break = instant win.
Edit: 25:00 i was waiting for him to accidentally play the un upgraded strike first cause he thought he had enough energy while counting damage.
Clash and Rampage are rly good in an exhaust deck because constant cycle from diminishing deck size, just saying
I’m so tempted to do a play-by-play critique of one of NL’s runs to give him a more comprehensive guide for ascension. Consider pathing away from elites. Especially in act 2.
26 cards is relatively thin? Relative to what, exactly?

The fact that so many comments are complaining about Corruption says to me that NL's audience has no idea how to play StS.
people are just sick of him taking it every mf time and misusing the shit out of and thinking having that and barricade means you win lol
Do you really even have a clue on how to play StS? Corruption is good, but more than half the decks NL tries to make involving it are just so bad.
