I released an hour long Q&A video over on our patreon (patreon.com/MMADS) for $1 and up patrons, answering commonly asked questions/misconceptions from the video. YES, I meant Reebok not Adidas. 50% of comments are that so wanted to address that hahhahha
Hey thank you very much for your video, I appreciate your intellectual perspectives on these issues. Also I hate to critique, so I'm definitely not trying to do that as again I would like to reiterate I really appreciate your video, but on some things I think you're intelligence is doing you a small disservice in the way that you're explaining some points. Just a couple, one is that you're calling the show money a bonus and that gets a lil confusing because it's not a bonus more like a guaranteed wage for showing up, so it's a little confusing because you get the win bonus and there's also the knockout of the night and those type of bonuses. Just another small one I guess is you explain the incentive for wanting to win the fight as wanting to starve the other person of the bonus and I understand that does not literally mean making another person starve that you're wanting them to not get the bonus when I think in actuality I think if it was up to the winning fighter I think they would want them to have double their amount of money also so I would think they're incentive is to gain more money and not to prevent the other person from Gaining a bonus. If there's only a set amount of money in the world I'm not trying to gain some to starve the rest of the world from that money I just want to gain some money for me would be my or my incentive of having more money. Like I said I didn't want to go into too much but sometimes I do think you're intelligence disservices the overall Clarity and understandability of the video.. i e I smoke weed man can't you dumb it down for me bro
I have never and will never pay for a UFC event they’re free right here on TH-cam. I also don’t support the way the UFC is run and how the fighters are treated! If ppl were real fans of fighters they would stop buying the ppv’s until fighters get a fair % of the total income of the UFC including things like the UFC video game etc which they get nothing for as of now. You’ve pointed out many good things ppl need to know about and just how much of a piece of sht Dana White truly is as well as the UFC itself.

This is EXACTLY right. If you don’t pay enough the fighters have more incentive to look out for themselves instead of just making sure they get their fighter pay.
@@MMAIBA It's also an Americanisum issue, fighters from the South Pacific come from a region with social Democracies not Republics and as such are generally perplexed by the generally negative American attitude towards unionization ... Wow you guys are easily pleased. What is great, it's a running commentary of what happened over the last 3 months? Anyone that follows the sport closely knows these things. Great journalism is being a step ahead of the game. Where was this story 6 months ago when UFCs betting policy was so far out of line with every other major sports organisation.
This is an absolute masterpiece. I’ve had so much interest in this, and also just a big fan of the sport. And this video thoroughly went above and beyond in explaining everything. I had a feeling there was gonna be significance to the Krause story but I never imagined how in depth all of this went. Unbelievably well done, you deserve a lot of recognition for this work. Brilliance.
5:23 I’m sure you’re about to get to this but as someone who worked in finance and now sports, This is EGREGIOUS. I thought the same thing. The over under was 4.5 rounds lol imagine knowing a guy dislocated his shoulder “20x in camp”. That’s the most free money I’ve ever seen in my life. Edit: 20:56 all true, but I also think Dana is misrepresenting boxing. Bc he purposely left out the most important part which I’ve heard his diatribes in the past and they are accurate: the multiple promoters. The BIGGEST difference is how fights are promoted and the revenue share as a result. One promotion allows him to spread out payout to more fighters. Taking more fighters into his org isn’t out of the goodness of his heart. It means more events which satisfies his contractual obligation from a content perspective to someone like ESPN which was mission critical in a time like the pandemic. More events is more money kept. So it’s a give take. A full fight roster eats into profits But leads to more profitable events. It requires an eye watering amount of events. It’s very much what F1 is becoming. Ppl aren’t noticing the number of events rising but that calculation massively swings when you can’t put on events. All of this has lead to a limited money pot to fighters. He will often called boxing a “going out of business sale”. That’s correct. BUT, the ufc is essentially the same thing looking at their public financials. It just happens to be a string of planned going out of business sales on the razor’s edge of holding things together. I doubt there’s a massive disruption that could cause a hiccup but one event could throw a wrench into EVERYTHING for them. Covid was that hiccup but they magically came up with fight island. If anything they’ve proven how insanely resilient they’ve been. But Something like a group of fighters demanding more money and banding together is a more dynamic risk. If I had to guess, dana would go to war to stop this bc he knows the implications.
What I would say is that in my talks with fighters, camps and managers: i understand why no one has talked much about this. I will be doing future videos to explain why. Its a lot more complicated than I had previously thought
Great video and excellent insight! Your analogy about the ‘glue factory’ is spot on. The UFC doesn’t care about superstars anymore, they’re focused on building the UFC brand which will be more sustainable long term. Eventually the entire roster will be filled with action fighters like Drew Dober. They want you to turn the channel on for the ‘UFC’ regardless of who is fighting.
Anyone else think the UFC name sounds like American gladiators? Idk I watched like UFC 1 or 2 the other day and I'm like man this is so cringe. It started out as a carnie side act. Also judging based off damage is something you should do next. It's a very subjectable thing. Your pain threshold and mine are far different. Without a Dr giving full exams you can't judge off damage. Esp when you have fighters like Nate Diaz who cut by doing pushups. So idk, scoring for damage has to go. Hearing damage trumps all cracks me up. Mexican Martial Arts did a funny video about it. "That punch would kill my 6-year-old nephew but I can take them all day" (he was punching himself).
This is arguably the best and most holistic analysis of the UFC and it’s incentive structures. Crucial information that I wish was more well known in the sport.
This investigative look into the whole situation of why the UFC would have a problem like this is so well researched and concise that I had to download it as a reference for my own personal research. Thank you so much for expanding on this topic.
because it’s actual journalism. 97% of mma “journalism” is pathetic. this required real research, as well as true effort to put together. especially as well put together as this is
Wow, this is incredibly the amount of effort and research gone into this. As the last fighter, who fought Jack maddalena before his UFC contract, I have been around the sport for over a decade fighting to one day be on the UFC, but never hearing and understanding this side of the business. It is astonishing the way in detail the business is operating. I have listened to the whole podcast style report and will be looking out for other content you have created. Thank you , please keep up the hard work.
Still a relatively new channel, so much potential for growth though, I bet in a year or two this will be a much more viewed channel! I've been sharing vids from this channel with friends who like MMA/UFC for some time now and a lot of them are very surprised how good this content is compared to how few people subscribe to it. I see the potential of this channel to reach 20k-50k subs at least!
Actual journalism in MMA? Unheard of. Honestly though, amazing piece. I thought I'd watch this over two or three sessions and ended up listening all the way through in one shot. Just incredible stuff.
Mma media is so bad. Everyone agrees Ariel is the best and he's not even allowed at press gatherings and has had the premier league (UFC) try to get rid of him countless times over the years. All the media are so terrified of Dana they've essentially been turned into a vehicle for the UFC to promote, which is NOT what journalists are there to do. Dana white could murder somebody and John Morgan would ask him what his favorite food is lol
The problem with mma media, specifically the ufc, is that anyone who would report on something like this would never be allowed access to an event again.
I agree 💯 with almost everything you are saying and I've been saying it for ages. There is a reason UFC does everything they do. Economics. And they are too caught up to ever think they could damage their brand or fail. And they don't realise that the MMA fan base who have supported them through everything is getting sicker and sicker of their low quality content and filler, especially in women's MMA and DWCS fill ins. The time of the big PPV star is over (E.g. Ngannou contract) and they don't realise that despite the guaranteed income from ESPN they are seriously damaging their brand. They also do nor want big name fighters going to other upcoming promotions like the PFL. It's all business. And dirty business at that
The TJ-Aljo fiasco was a huge red flag for me as well. I made a last minute bet for Aljo to win by TKO, $10 won me $100. But I was sure a lot more people bet on TJ to win, going for the underdog but were getting a lame duck. Referee was told before the fight, and should've notified the commission.
@@Dom-bn1ru The Betting line was 11.00 for a TKO/KO/Dr Stoppage/Technical decision. $10 bet nets $110...the only reason I'm messaging now is because I was cleaning my phone and found the picture of the best slip I won, and the options available for the fight. Enjoy the fights this weekend!!
Someone call Ariel and tell him to pass his mma journalist of the year award along to this guy, this right here has got to be one of the most informative pieces of media I've seen within the MMA community, I hope this hits everyone's algorithm as well over the break so they can also enjoy this masterpiece and become better informed fans with regard to the underlying realities of what's dictating the sport
@@jackdaniels2905 I don't think he bashed Ariel. If we are talking about investigative journalism he is absolutely right. MMAI did the best work so far for sure. I watch the MMAhour too but there is no journalism involved. Ariel talked more about his beef with Brendan, Paddy and Dana in the last 3 shows than he did serious journalism in the last 10 years 😁in my opinion. He can be funny and entertaining but this "content - creator" here is on another level!
This is still sketchy you know how much you would have to bet to win what you would get for show and win money in the octagon , then huge bets they see who it is , kinda makes no sense cus you can gamble all day just not on your fight or your fighters fight if your a coach , he talks about things but never tells anything that is of substance to the gambling problem he has in title , cus somethings aren't talked about alot don't make em wrong
This was amazing and gives me hope for content to come from you and others. I hope that content like this becomes a leading theme in content so that people can observe ideas and issues from a educational stand point not motivated by ideology or agendas. I hope someone in Endeavor or the UFC sees this.
Amazing piece of journalism had me glued to my screen. I feel as if the MMA community will come back to this video once the dust has settled and see that you warned everyone long beforehand
Hey MMAI, love your academic style of delivery in these videos. I've been watching your previous content and found it all very enjoyable. Good luck with your TH-cam venture!
I rarely comment on videos but this is outstanding work. I was aware of bits and pieces although had no idea how deep this ties into the UFCs dna. Keep up the good work. Subbed.
I've gotta say i wasn't expecting such a well put together piece. However, i think you're def onto something and it's something ive spent a bit of time looking into myself. I'm gna go on a limb but i think in the next month or two (when more supporting evidence inevitably comes out) this video will see an incredible viewing. Again, very nice work MMAI hope to see much more of this type of piece in the future.
I dont get why nobody mentions that Krause ignored David Onama saying he can't see and basically asking him to stop the fight against Landwehr and Krause ignoring it.
Yo that's whack, never realised the connection until you said! I remember Landwehr getting pasted the 1st round and having a comeback of all comebacks in the 2nd then taking the 3rd for a crazy win
This was an outstanding piece of work! I have a special interest in sports ethics and compliance oversight and was thrilled at the degree of quality, unbiased research that went into the production of this video. I especially appreciate the comparative analyses used throughout to further support your arguments. Any thesis committee would be thrilled to receive this caliber of work. Looking forward to more of your work!

This has been one of the most in depth analysis of my problems with gambling becoming legal. If you thought the NBA scandal was bad, this isn't going to stop. It's not just the UFC
@@MMAIBA Hi there mate. Are you aware your channel is blacklisted by reddit? I wanted to share this video there and was told this by mods. Rob here. You were closer than most! Pal-Lin would be how I'd write it phonetically. Anyway, great work on this, man. I really enjoyed it. Excellent insight and storytelling -- you weaved through the various topics very effectively. You're spot on re: the importance US companies will put on gambling companies for sponsorship. The US is going to be a massive market for gambling; there really hasn't been an emerging market like it. Also, The MMA Glue Factory is pretty disturbing but also perfectly descriptive. I'll be using that going forward 😂
SHOOT! Sorry about that Rob hahha but thank you and of course incredible work. Your video is WAY more concise than mine, everyone needs to check it out!
One small correction. The UFC wouldn't have to give a fighter, ex. Mazvidal, anything if sales of Mazvidal t-shirts go up. UFC contracts take away a fighters' ownership of their likeness.
Nice work. As a combat sports handicapper I'm not surprised at all by the piss poor reactions of the UFC to this mess. The sportsbooks are wide open to be abused by syndicates or anyone that can scrounge a few surrogate accounts. Nothing is stopping a fighter from being a few degrees separated from this sort of thing and getting a cut of an operation. The incentive to do so is especially there, given the lack of pay many top fighters experience.
Loving this well researched non rushed, non biased video. Great journalism. I love silly stuff like Strickland Press Conferences and deep stuff like Adam Catteralls interviews and talksports points of view. But this is the kind of content true UFC fans are looking for. Amazing work. This should win awards!!! I've subbed the channel and shared to many mma fans. I hope this video gets gazillions of views .

Incredibly well done, brother! Thorough and concise investigation and connecting of the proverbial dots. MMA media would benefit immeasurably if they had more people like you. You just earned yourself a subscriber!
MMAI: Here is what I believe is wrong with MMA gambling, incentives, and business structure. Basic MMA Fans: What is a layman and what is a term? Loved this analytical take and if I could pitch in slightly. I think one of the main reasons why most of this happens within the UFC (or maybe sports in general) is due to the fans not caring enough to look into the financial side of things. It’s a slippery slope that not everyone can grasp at and understand.
the fans that’s dont stand up to this are just as complacent as the UFC imo. we care about the fighters, not the company. it should be in our best interest to make sure they’re getting the best deal they can. perfect example is the recent controversy with francis.
@@babosanders5223 Francis is crazy and was offered MILLIONS to fight Jon Jones (estimated 20 million) and shot that down. Thing about contracts is once they’re signed their mostly non-negotiable. Yes, Francis is worth more than what was probably listed on the contract and the fact that he didn’t go through with fighting for that amount of money is mind boggling to me
@@MMAIBA I have a question that I've been thinking about how much of a role does the classification of fighters as independent contractors play into the pay structure UFC currently enforces and if it will ever change?
@@strictlywrestlingreviews6758 it’s important but also not important. Here’s the thing, you’re asking an INCREDIBLY important question. It matters because US law would force a multitude of fixes if they became employees but I honestly think it tanks the sport. Wow this is so good. It put all the pieces together for me, especially with Frances Ngannou leaving, and why the UFC brushed him off so fast (unheard of). I wonder what endeavor will do with Dana, they can get rid of him to reset?
Great video, I appreciate someone finally covering this issue! If I may be allowed to say though , it was a Reebok deal , not Adidas. That said I look forward to seeing more , thank you !
I did not expect an extremely well detailed explanation of labor rights, capitalism and serfdoms that completely explain the sports revenue. This was an incredibly satisfying and entertaining video thank you so much
And gambling money literally determines who wins the fight. More money was on strickland, Petr Yan. Jared Gordon at +240 odds. Calvin Kattar when he fought Emmett. And all of them were bad decisions. Giving the loser the win because more money was on the actual winner. Even happens in lower level fights like Zhalgas Zhumagalov and Dustin Jacoby vs Khalil roundtree. Would love to see a short video on all the bad decisions and judges being told who to pick as a winner
In my opinion, you are incorrect in believing this BUT it makes my point further because now you absolutely have reason to believe that every bs decision has something behind it you know?
@@MMAIBA so what's your opinion on bad decisions?!? Just blind judges, No ??? It's absolutely money. Anyway what's your opinion then if you think I'm incorrect
@@jrsmoove4354 my opinion is bad judges with no accountability. The commissions have 0 accountability framework and continue to assign judges like Doug Crosby to fights when he obviously has not adapted to the new criteria of judging. Why does he need to be paid off? He made bad decisions for Bellator with a FRACTION of UFC’s $. Its not a conspiracy in my eyes, it’s incompetence. Theres a common proverb: “Don’t assign to malice what can be easily attributed to apathy” that is my opinion in all of this
@@MMAIBA I understand where you're coming from.... But how is it possible 99.99% of the world thinks a certain fighter won and the only people who seen it the other way are the people judging the fights. In my opinion these judges are very competent and are obviously told what to do. Do you watch the UFC every week ? Are you a big fan of the sport? Remember McKenzie dern Vs Yan Shionan round 5 when dern had control for 4 min 30 seconds and was landing huge shots from side and back mount. And they didn't give it a 10-8 round. So they could give Yan the win. Once again bcuz more money was on Dern
@@MMAIBA and then some fighters are given 10-8 rounds for doing way less...... Trust me it's not incompetence, these people are evil and wicked and practice black magic and witchcraft. This info is incredibly interesting, You are opening our eyes to things we didn't realize we needed opening to, thank you, we need you to open our eyes to the sketchyness of the NFL!
Are we all just gonna ignore the fact that these sportsbooks can shut down betting lines at their will? Imagine trying to place a bet on your guy and someone decides you’re not allowed to because it “might” be a “fix”.
Incredibly in-depth and so very well researched Im happy this has 4k likes at my time of viewing but it deserves 400k hopefully it’ll bring 100% insurance an up fighter pay
Excellent breakdown. In regards to Meghan Anderson - At the time, I always thought that she came to NOT fight. Was she so scared and intimidated? Was she so overmatched? If you look at that fight, you can't honestly say she tried to win. She did not. She was also released after that fight. Too many coincidences.
This is one of the most brilliant pieces of sports media I have ever seen...full stop. The way you broke down what we have all been dancing around or feeling with the changes that have occurred within the UFC is masterful. Your summation of the UFC becoming the Netflix of combat sports is spot on, and the pitfalls that will come with that given the soulless capitalist backing they have chosen to align themselves with is all but a guarantee. Fighters will continue to suffer until the damage becomes so great, and so obvious that government institutions are forced to step in to allow the fighters to form a union to protect them from the organization just like all other major professional sports already have in this country. You better believe that it will be a cold day in hell before the Capo (Dana White) and his Godfather (Ari Emanuel) allow that to happen. There's no more dangerous combo than a grifter from Southy and a shilock from Chicago. They will literally do WHATEVER is necessary to continue enriching themselves and their brand until the damage is so great that even the stupidest person is aware of the unethical nature of their business model. All fueled by the infinite resources and PR machinery of the titan that is "Disney". Truly a match made in hell...
yeah Ariel’s also a rat for not asking him before hand if he should cut that part out or not since the guy was nice enough to come on and talk openly. He definitely knew that what he was saying was potentially illegal.
I was watching it live and as a gambler I couldn't believe my ears. Most of us knew what he was doing but it was somewhat hidden, an open secret kinda. Now it's just..open. At one point he seems reluctant to admit he bets on his own guys, he squeaks out a "yes" with a different tone and a hesitation, but he still admitted it even tho he had to know its illegal.
Stopped betting MMA long ago because of the increase in the amount of sketchy judging decisions, but with this Krause situation I have no plans on ever betting mma again. I truly believe there is way more fighters/coaches doing this.... Krause is just the only one to get caught which is scary.
Man did you not see Floyd vs Conjobber???? Or Cowboy flop in 40 some seconds. Or snoozeman in Mazvafake 1?? Justin flopped on Kabob many more. Remember Justin threating to blow the roof off the ufc?? Etc. Dana is a cheat and a thief and a cheat. How in Abu Dabi all the fighters look like THE HULK dipped in grease. Etc. Fake as WWE. I mean 90% of fights if not more are real. Although some have definitely had predetermined outcomes
Great breakdown you’ve got a new sub! Now a question, how is Dave from Barstool able to bet still when he has a public relationship with Patty? Shouldn’t anyone with a connection to a fighter be banned from betting?
18:30 Dana essentially and casually admitting to keeping fighters poor, so they HAVE to fight. I hate Jake Paul but I really hope his MMA thing forces Dana to make changes.
Your point on why win bonuses aren’t set on individual fights is a great point. It should always be at least 1:1 but if Nate Diaz needs to fight Khamzat give him a 1:3 payout. Making sure he doesn’t just throw the main event or give up in tough spots.(Fight obviously didn’t happen anyway)
You're providing an invaluable service to this sport. The pessimist in me just sees the world staying the same as it's always been; those with power ever. corrupting the system to better serve their needs, while the majority pay with our labour and life force to keep them in their lofty perches. Nonetheless, I appreciate your time to help educate us plebs.

Great video as always! I thought that in no big sports where gambling is allowed could family-members, coaches or anyone who could possibly have information on athletes that could make them bet a certain way even place bets , like wtf? Why did ufc people think this was okay in anyway? It's essentially insider trading.

There's so many of these small channels popping up that are producing such high quality content. I'm loving it.

Bingo! Exactly right
& thus, the real-life meme was born in: "I train UFC bro"
Gonna hurt it like WWE
It ain't the brand son
It's the man involved
Very true
This is arguably the best and most holistic analysis of the UFC and it’s incentive structures. Crucial information that I wish was more well known in the sport.
This investigative look into the whole situation of why the UFC would have a problem like this is so well researched and concise that I had to download it as a reference for my own personal research. Thank you so much for expanding on this topic.

Most underrated mma channel! You put in so much thought and effort into your videos.

Well done dude, mma media is a joke and would never do something like this, independent minds like yours are very much needed
I would say that in my research, I understand why they don’t. My next video will be substantially better than this one and it’ll all make sense
A lot of MMA media is reliant on having access. Most likely, they don't want to be ostracized from events/personnel by asking too many questions.
The problem with mma media, specifically the ufc, is that anyone who would report on something like this would never be allowed access to an event again.
@@MMAIBA your content is so much more interesting and insightful than shit like MMA on point "top 10 poopy butts in UFC history"

LOL the feudalism history lesson over video of Dana flapping his gums is just so awesome
And dirty business at that
It's been rigged for along time.
Absolutely fake odds u did not get. 10 to 1 odds
