    Now make a sword ( thousands of them ) and fashion some quiqueremes or ancient galley war naval boats ( thousands of them ) then voyage to Ileum ( Troy ) and prepare to lay siege with your collation for 10 years ( though you can drastically shorten your siege if you make a giant wooden horse as a decoy present putting some men inside and have them open the gates after you feigned a sea withdrawal ). Make certain not to anger your best Warrior by stealing his hunny ( don’t violate the bro code as it’s never changed ) . Furthermore you may want to give a proper sea and land map to one of your commanders for his voyage journey back home . Last time it took him many years after he got lost during his route and had a bit of trouble coming across an island with a bunch of whores , some very angry giant dude with one eye who likes the taste of human flesh , a storm that blew him off course to a kingdom that told him to beat it along with many other difficulties . He did though at the and after finally making his way back home get to see his loyal and ever awaiting trusty canine friend Molosser. Just one last time his best canine friend needed to see him , before he passed on in old age , and to great delight his wish comes true after hanging on all those years where he knew his master would return. That he did his master and he passes away moments after fulfilled now awaiting to see him in the afterlife . His master for fear of disclosing his hidden identity could not lament the way he desired to , but couldn’t refrain from shedding a single tear as he turned his face away from his host .

    Nice work.. Ya had me a bit scared with the crucible rolling out like that. but I see you were checking loss values and how well the mix looked. Seemed real nice.. looking forward to some bronze items (maybe a horse or critter). does the ptrobond hold up well, I was thinking of getting some off Amazon... lastly I did my first Aluminum pour on my channel, I did it as a creep video.. Video 14 .. it took like six tries to get it to work.. ya make is look so easy.. anyways thanks for the Vids!!

      Thanks, I definitely need to adjust the lifting shank or maybe use tongs instead next time. I like petrobond sand better than green sand. It sticks together well, as long as its not too cold. I have been using the same sand for about a year and It still works well.

    What was that white stuff that you used as flux?

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flux I used was "20 Mule Team" Borax. It is sold as a detergent booster/ household cleaner and is available at Target (among other stores) here in the USA. There are probably other brands that sell borax (sodium tetraborate) as well. Thanks for watching!

  • @jacobwoods7162

    So that's a good ratio then to make bronze? Bec I need to know so 90% copper 10% tin is perfect?

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That ratio has worked well for me so far. I need a well rounded bronze that I can use for different casting projects. If you are only going to cast certain types of objects then you may want to adjust the percentages. For example, "bell bronze" typically has a higher tin content. Thanks for watching!

  • @finoman100
    @finoman100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This may sound dumb, but everything mixes well in the crucible. Is there no need to "stir" or mix it?

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't stir the molten bronze, mainly to limit oxidation. I believe that it mixes well without stirring due to the "currents" in the melt caused by heating (convection). Pouring the metal also causes some mixing as well. Thanks for watching!

    Good job! Do you inject air into your propane to get to copper melting temps, or is it propane only with air naturally aspirated?

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. Both burners that I have are propane only (naturally aspirated). The burner that you see in this video was purchased from Lost & Foundry (www.foundry101.com). The regulator that came with the burner stopped working recently but the burner itself has worked very well. My old home made burner did not get hot enough to melt copper or bronze so I bought this one. Thanks for watching!

    • @Quaght
      @Quaght 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, OK. Thank you. I have a good burner that I bought from High Temp Tools. My previous furnace build couldn't get to copper melting temps, but it was just a sand and plaster mix and I suspect it was not insulative enough. I now have made one that's 2 inches of Inswool with a couple of layers of Satanite. Hopefully I can get to temp. I want to work with bronze and brass. What PSI were you running for copper before the regulator crapped out?

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thankfully I already had a regulator and pressure gauge on hand so I switched out the regulator that came with the burner. For copper and bronze I like to run 15 psi and then turn it down to 10 psi right before pouring. I have also run the burner at 20 psi but I prefer 15 psi because it is not as loud. With my mini furnace (th-cam.com/video/ve8gc53os4A/w-d-xo.html) it usually takes half an hour to get 2 lbs (0.9 kg) of bronze up to pouring temp.

    Sir, can melting be done by putting together tin and copper. Is there any harm?

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually the metal with the lower melting point is put in last (especially if the percentage in the alloy is less). Since tin does not boil at the melting point of copper you should be able to put them in at the same time. I haven't tried it that way. You would likely have a molten pool of tin a long time before the copper melted. For a metal like zinc you wait until the end to put it in because it can boil at the melting point of copper.

  • @davidmcmichael8843
    @davidmcmichael8843 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What are the benefits of Bronze over Copper? Why didn't people in the Bronze age just use Copper instead of having to find tin as well and then spending a lot of time and energy combining the two?

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Bronze is harder than copper so it is preferred for most tools and weapons. It is also easier to cast and has a lower melting point.

    • @MoltenMetalCasting
      @MoltenMetalCasting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be a bronze alloy it must be composed of copper and tin. It can have smaller amounts of other metals depending on the properties desired.

    • @ebahns

      Bronze aluminum is harder and better for strengrh than tin bronze. Swap out tin for aluminum

      Brass has zinc in it instead of tin. I used tin because zinc vaporizes at brass melting temperatures.
