somethings that you didn't included was,
1. sacrificing tower/damage to gain elixir.
2. elixir pump/elixir golem interactions.
3. play a card at 10 makes it 1 extra elixir technically, bcs there's a server delay of 1-2 seconds.
bonus: although top players won't fall for it but you can play a card in the back when you're not 10 elixir to make your opponent think that you're actually up elixir.

You are absolutely right. Beat down players often trade damage for elixir so they can build up big pushes. Also, elixir pumps throw everything off and make it significantly harder to count. I can tell you’ve played the game for minute. 👍

one easy of counting elixir is to watch your match as a spectator from another account and opponent's exact elixir will be visilible to you!

The most important reason in my opinion is to stop myself from going in when I’m not actually up elixir, and going in when I am.
