It's a little bit too slow especially compared to other ftk. Besides Yata is not the main reason the F&L list was created, it was CED(pre-errata) that really made Yata-Lock a viable deck since it requires you to go second and can't out boards to actually do get it's effect off. Don't get me wrong, it's still a powerful card but not deserving of top 10 most broken card, although i also don't think that some of the cards in this list also deserve to be on it.
Everytime I see these lists my answer is always the same, Makyura as the enabler of the breaking mechanic of making all traps into spells is the number 1 for obvious reasons. Even if you banned all the possible cards that conduct to FTK combos, it would still enable pretty degenerate turn 1 boards, increase deck consistency 1000 fold, and of all the cards it holds the honours of not having been errata nor having ever been legal to begin with. Card was banned 1 week before it's first print, that's all you need to know who the real king troublemaker of the f/l list is.
also it was banned week 1 in the TCG not OCG. It was legal for months there alongside exchange of spirit in the same format enabling FTK cancer decks lol
Fun fact: Firewall Dragon's second effect has been used exactly once in all of VRAINS thusfar. Also, funnily, Dark Strike Fighter had an effect pretty similar to the errata'd version in the anime. Meaning the game, of all things, was what made it broken.
Kind of like what they did with honest in yugioh GX, in the show honest literally says it can only be used on a level 7 or higher warrior type monster.
@@nifty6970 true but the character that uses it has only a hand full of monster he can use it on to begin with, if it was like it was on the show you would kind of need to build your deck around it.
Another note about Firewall is how effective it was at link climbing as long as you had the hand resources. Being able to special summon a card from your hand each time you use a monster it points to as material makes it one of the easiest methods of extra linking. It's basically Ultimate Offering 2.0.

There are way more cards... also Yubel can kill the person who activated Last Turn if their LP are low enough and cards like Dark Destroyer with on summon destruction removal, shit like that can get you a free win. So yeah. It's way easier to force a tie than it is to summon cards like the Wicked Avatar.
Probably the most reliable easily accessed and self-maintaining monsters (that I can think of) for the Last Turn user to use would be Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon or Eater of Millions. Alternatively some of best monsters (that I can think of) to summon if you get Last Turned would be Vijam The Cubic Seed or Kozmo Dark Destroyer. (Provided on summon effects could activate)
@@namedfuzzball4393 The thing about Last Turn is that it doesn't include any kind of summon-blocking. There are just so many routes to make it end in a draw. Any floater or battle-indestructible monster. Any Special-Summon blocker. Anything that gets rid of the opposing monster before (or in some cases after) the damage step starts. Not to mention the floating effects of stuff that might get sent in the process of activating Last Turn. Like, what made Last Turn an absolute friggin' joke wasn't the Jowgen combo. It was that you could easily fill your whole deck with cards that didn't necessarily win off Last Turn, but did force a draw, and count on the few times you could pull off the Jowgen combo (or some variant of it, like Jowls of Dark Demise or Non-Aggression Area). After all, two draws and a win is still a win. And three draws... well, it's not a loss.
Drago Guy number c69 when your opponent attacks it blows up their field. That's the only effect I remember. But... They could just blow it up with something like fissure or raigeki.
Lmao, don't make me laugh. Buster Blader, the Dragon destroyer swordsman is an easy fusion that NEGATES the effects of any and ALL dragons. Also forces them to defence and prevents them from changing battle position.
In a more "pure power" way, the two cards black luster soldier envoy and Dragon envoy are really so easy to summon and give you a massive advantage, especially considering you could use the effect of the dragon if somehow your opponent activates a trap or magic card to destroy it. If you try those cards through a cheated Yu-Gi-Oh video games just to see why some are banned you will quickly realise that there is a good reason some cards are banned.
I remember from years and years ago, my younger brother and I went to a small local tourney at some game shop in our city. This was way back in the earlier days of YGO, before even E-Heroes were a twinkle in Konami's eye. My brother was like 12-13 years old at the time. He played some douche bag guy who cheezed out easy wins by abusing Wall of Revealing Light to instantly burn himself to 1000 LP, activate Last Turn and prevent my brother from getting a monster on the field, or say that Walls attack blocking effect prevented by brother from attacking despite the card being destroyed by Last Turn or something stupid like that. I don't remember the specifics (again, this was like 15 years ago) but it was dirty as hell and the guy was being a real shitheel about it to my brother, who he looked 10+ years older than and for whatever reason he is trying to give some kid the runaround to scum out a win in some silly card game at a local no one cares about. 🙄 Long story short, we went home after that and my brother stopped playing YGO all together.
No though considering that DuelLogs had it #1 on another list, I guess he wanted to show off different cards. I was personally expecting Chaos Emperor Dragon.
Is it broken? Definitely, but the fact that is a gamble card makes it unreliable and it's also a trap. In the end you can pull it off 1 in 3 times. In floating decks is great tho
Richard the pastamancer there’s no downside to Sixth Sense. You can either get a result so powerful it’s a game winning effect (drawing 5 to 6 cards) or a decent mill effect, and it’s not a downside in many decks (Lightsworns, Burning Abyss, or pretty much any Zombie Deck ever) to mill cards.
My favorite card probably doesn't deserve to be on this list, but Cyber Jar was my favorite card ever when I played the game when I was 8. A board wipe that lets you refill hands and the field? It's just so neat!
What is so scary about things like Painful Choice, Delinquent Duo, Makyura the Destructor, Last Will, and Graceful Charity (the last two of which should have been on this list) is that none of the cards listed have a power ceiling. No matter how many sets come out with broken cards like Firewall Dragon, the above five cards will *ALWAYS* be super powerful simply because of their design and what they allow players to do, either to benefit themselves or to screw over their opponents.
I feel like almost every broken card could easily be fixed by just putting "You can only use each effect of [card name] once per turn." on it. (not every broken card would be fixed, but the vast majority would be with this) I mean, you'd think they'd just make that little bit of text mandatory over how many dozens of broken cards they've had to errata or ban over the years that had no limit on them, especially since in Yu-Gi-Oh there's no resource system to limit things naturally, like how there's mana in Magic the Gathering.
Yeah, but I feel they'd lose their "soul" if you errata'd them. Look at the poor Sangan and all those other cards nobody really cares about anymore after getting off the banlist with an errata. This is my personal silly opinion, but I think the same applies to any other TCG too.
It wouldnt help sixth sense, yatagarasu, book of judgement, dragon rulers, delenquent duo, trap dustshoot, pot of greed, chaos dragon envoy of end (without errata) etc. But maybe that would fix some, dunno...

Card Of Safe Return was a big part of my Zombie Deck The Deck Revolved around 4 Cards - Card Of Safe Return - Zombie World - Imperial Iron Wall - Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower Get these 4 cards out along with Plaguespreader and you can Synchro Summon For Days Imperial Iron Wall Stops Monsters from Being Removed so you could spam Plaguespreader's Effect over and over again
*I want to clarify something about Card of Safe Return* : it was okay by the time it was created because there was almost no easy way of special summoning monsters from the graveyard. Treeborn Frog doesn't work, Call of the Haunted was limited at 1, and the only deck that had a theme of special summoning monsters from the graveyard were Zombies, and even they didn't have that many effects to do it. Book of Life, Vampire Lord's effect if you got lucky it happened or you forced it, Twin-Headed Behemoth. It also was at 3 for a very short time, it was mostly at 1 until it was banned.

If just one of them is crappy, they will give you the crappy one) And even if it still breaks even, it's not like you will be able to do anything with the 4 that weren't chosen... as the fact that those previously wen't to the GY is the reason why the card is so broken now.

I dont remember when it was released, but it would be a balanced card back in the day where basically only way to special summon from the GRY was with Monster Reborn.
As great as _Shooting Quasar Dragon_ is, it's not a literal auto-win like many of these cards are. Also, _Painful Choice_ doesn't read, "Synchro Summon 1 'Shooting Quasar Dragon' from your Extra Deck." It facilitates a combo, with numerous steps that are each vulnerable to disruption. Additionally, _Painful Choice_ and _Shooting Quasar Dragon_ were never legal at the same time in the advanced format, so that combo was never an actual factor in competetive play.

I'd like to point out that Card of Safe Return was also involved in a couple of degenerate Exodia OTKs. For example, the Manticore loop, which involves one Manticore of Darkness in your hand and another one in your Graveyard. During the End Phase, you discard the Manticore in your hand to SS the one in your GY, then send that one back to the GY to summon the one you discarded, repeat until your opponent flips the table.
Only casual gameplay is any fun anymore, but if you prefer that over meta gameplay, people call you names, even if you try to make a non-meta deck as tournament viable as possible.
@@TrianglePants I don't play meta at all. I was discriminated against in the duel amino for this very reason. I play fair, fun, and honest. Now-a-days, meta decks are just tournament decks, even if the deck isn't commonly used in tournaments today. They're still built the same way, so they're still a tourney deck

most of this cards aren't made by konami to be broken and then banned, the problem is that players find ways to exploit them and win them the duel, and also some banned cards that are broken are card that were printed long time ago like painful choice or delinquent duo and during the old time, konami didn't know how broken these cards acctually are until players start to abuse them.
Most of the card that is op is just because they are created during simpler time.Just take grinder golem for example: legit trash until link and it suddenly become the most broken card ever printed the very day link come
To people wondering why Yata-Garasu isn't in the list.... The case about Yata is that Yata is not broken ON HIS OWN, it requires something to combo with in most situations. But thats also why it will more than likely be forever banned, the amount of different cards nowadays that could combo with Yata would be completely ridiculous, this would lead to so many unhealthy and degenerate strategies.

Rescue Cat's old effect was pretty powerful, lead to tons of 1 card FTKs. Also, pretty surprised that Yatagarasu wasn't on here, even though I don't think it would hurt the game as much as people think in the current game.

Firewall Dragon should be no.1 why? because it damage the game not like any other broken card, its all thanks to konami refusal of banning it on the first sign of trouble. if you see other broken card, konami straight up banning it immidietly first time they see a potential destructive mechanic. but its different case with Firewall Dragon
It is the card in the anime, banning random cards of the game is fine but banning the Ace Monster of an anime that is currently airing is another story involving literally legal issues alongside a lot of additional problems including potential damage to new audiences dragged in by VRAINS if they so happens to be, gets excited, try to get the Ace Monster, and realizes you can't use it because it was banned. This wasn't a problem before because they never had to ban an Ace Monster of the Protagonist ever before.

I’ve seen the new Exchange of the Spirit still work with a Monarch’s deck that just sent both players extra decks to the graveyard, so as long as people run 15 card extra decks; you just need to last 1 turn against a player without the ability to search their deck.
Card of safe return was used in the anime by Marik’s mindslave Strings to make Slifer unstoppable, in combination with Revival Jam, who instantly revived from the graveyard if destroyed in the anime, and a card I forget the name of that made Revival Jam always intercept an attack. The strategy was defeated by Yugi using Brain Control to take control of the Revival Jam, which caused Slifer’s second ability to activate, which makes new monsters on the opponent’s field lose 2000 Attack points, and be destroyed if their attack became 0 by this effect. Revival Jam would proceed to be resurrected to Yugi’s field, and Strings would draw 3 new cards. Slifer became more powerful, Revival Jam was destroyed, Strings drew 3 cards, and this continued until Strings lost because he couldn’t draw any new cards. This shows that Konami definitely knew what they were doing by creating the real card, and then it proceeded to be banned even with its nerfed effect. Konami is honestly weird sometimes, they even stated that Chaos Emperor Dragon was outlawed from official Duel Monsters Tournaments in GX, so what’s up?

You keep burning/draw exodia but it was not 100% without the draw cards ALL the time AND the card to send it to grave turn 0 Judgment is a 1 card God board and hand. It resolves, its game TURN 0. And theres 6 searches for it plus cards that repeat its effect
@@NY-Buddy exodia wasn't the most op version, exchange of the spirit was, literally the only way for that deck to not win instantly turn 1 was if they draw 6 of the draw 1 trap cards, then if they don 't get otk'd they still win the next turn. All other combinations they win before you can make any moves period. Thats literally the strongest possible deck in the entire game and would be the only tournament deck if its legal. Judgement while good doesn't matter against this when its not a FTK, All the advantages and setups can be countered when they have a god hand too, even at its height it wasn't a tier 0 deck and other could compete against it, nothing competes against exchange of the spirit FTK.
Technically traptrix atrax brings the effect of makyura back but with a specific type of "hole" trap cards but you can still activate them from your hand making her op if you have hole trap cards in your hand especially treacherous trap hole on the first turn
Chaos. Emperor. Dragon. A card so broken that it was even mentioned as being a banned card IN THE ANIME! I really don't know how the people who made the card wrote down its effect and were like, "Yeah, that seems about right." It would be broken in today's standards, so releasing back in such an early age of yugioh was akin to putting to Messi on the field in a middle school soccer game.
I feel like you just completely forgot Victory Dragon. This was a good list, but Victory Dragon really is on a whole other level from everything on this list. It may be kinda slow and situational, but the ability to instantly win a match goes beyond just OTKing or FTKing, that's potentially just skipping 2 whole games
That, and not the cards effect, is why it was banned. It resulted in a lot of arguments about whether the opponent surrendered in before damage calculation or not. It was wasting too much time with players calling for judges and disrupting tournament rounds. So basically it was banned so sanctioned events would run smoother.
One simple way of stopping the argument would have been if your opponent had Victory Dragon on the field and you had nothing whatsoever to negate the summon and stop attack(s) that destroyed any field monsters and/or reduced your life points to 0 via direct attack from other monsters and Victory, surrendering could not occur. Otherwise you could surrender as soon as you had nothing on the field and Victory came out. It's so highly situational I feel if you're on the wrong side of it you should lose the match. If it had far more consistency like Firewall/Danger FTK e.t.c then yeah it would deserve banning because that was just sheer aids.
Could you repeat this theme but from the perspective of Duel Links? Cards like Amazoness Onslaught, Treacherous Trap and Golden Bamboo would make the list :p
Mentioning Amazoness Onslaught but not Sea Stealth Attack is a bit of bias there. People complained about Onslaught because they didn't want to add any Spell/Trap removal.
Lord Nightraven at no point did he ever say those were the ONLY cards that would make the list. In fact, they specifically said “cards like” so it was never even implied.
last turn errata: you can only play this card on your opponent's turn when your life points are 1000 or less. select 1 monster on your side of the field which does not have an effect preventing summoning. then your opponent summons 1 monster from their deck (ignoring summoning conditions) and battles with the monster you selected. also your opponent's monster gains 1 attack (during damage calculation only). the owner of the destroyed monster loses the duel.
I think Last Turn can come back if Konami decide to put something like, "When this card's activate, negate all other card's effect until this card's effect resolves."
Have you considered a 'top 10 direct attackers' video? You discussed direct attackers in 2015 but there are a lot of new ones relevant to the nets meta since then, and it wasn't a top 10 video. Btw I like the format of these videos. Perfect length, and good descriptions for someone like me who generally keeps current but doesn't always know the entire meta in-and-out.
But Judgement was broken. Insanely so. It was a Super Rejuvenation for Spellbooks, and was the main card that let Spellbooks compete with one of the most powerful decks in the game. If it weren't for Judgement, Dragon Rulers would be tier 0.
Spellbooks and Dragons were both really easily fixed with Zombie World. It shut down all their shit. They required spellcasters and dragons and had only zombies...It shut down monarch Frogs and stuff too.

This can be proven by arguing for Firewall Dragon. Yes, Firewall could in theory be stopped by something as common as Summon Limit, does that mean we should have Firewall at 1 or 3? Absolutely not, and the same goes for other cards that provide absurd advantage such as Spellbook of Judgement and Super Rejuv. People will find ways to run it if it was released from the banlist today. Look at Rudra, a simple draw 2 card was teched in several decks just for the advantage it provided. The same would happen for Judgement only much worse.
I never said it was OK. I hated that meta. Truly. Roll the dice to see who wins. Judgement was a really stupidly powerful card. But I had an out that many did not. I ran, and still run, zombies, so the 2 big decks really did not affect me at all. It was the other annoying decks at the time that were more problematic.
This is random. I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh in over 10 years. I remember delinquent duo being broken. I used to run that and confiscation. You'd decimate your opponent's hand in just a single turn. Don't quite remember card of safe return being broken. Maybe newer formats had/have more special summoning than back in the day? Idk, I just remember everyone had the cards I mentioned above, chaos emperor dragon, BLS, yata garasu, so in and so forth. I miss yugioh, fun times in my life. Thanks for the nostalgia! Card of Safe Return being broken is a relatively recent development. I quit playing in the OG Cyber Dragon days (a good 2 years after CoSR was out) and summoning from the graveyard was still a pretty rare thing, IIRC. Monster Reborn was banned, Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted were limited, and we expected them to get the banhammer soon, too.
It seems like what you would want to with that is have it be that you fight over twelve total pieces of Ice (absolutist Arcane Lab) for which Traps do not count with the Edge/Monarch and with a hidden information bid/swing of 3/4/5. Great success.
exchange of spirit can still be extremely broken if combined with mekk knights if you manage to send the opponents entire extra deck to the grave and then switch the cards they have 0 in their main deck
I'd prefer they don't put an erratum on Painful Choice. It's perfect the way it is, it's painful for either for your opponent or you (if you don't have any graveyard effects).
The 4th copy of the Blue Eyes White Dragon is the most broken of all thanks to Kaiba.

It's a little bit too slow especially compared to other ftk. Besides Yata is not the main reason the F&L list was created, it was CED(pre-errata) that really made Yata-Lock a viable deck since it requires you to go second and can't out boards to actually do get it's effect off.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a powerful card but not deserving of top 10 most broken card, although i also don't think that some of the cards in this list also deserve to be on it.
Yata was broken because there were a lot of cards that removed cards from your oponent's hand like d.duo

@@Y0G0FU Exactly. Yata had been out for awhile before the banlist ever happened. it was after Invasion of Chaos that they implemented the banlist.
CED was commonly used in conjunction with Yata to achieve the desired effect.

Everytime I see these lists my answer is always the same, Makyura as the enabler of the breaking mechanic of making all traps into spells is the number 1 for obvious reasons. Even if you banned all the possible cards that conduct to FTK combos, it would still enable pretty degenerate turn 1 boards, increase deck consistency 1000 fold, and of all the cards it holds the honours of not having been errata nor having ever been legal to begin with. Card was banned 1 week before it's first print, that's all you need to know who the real king troublemaker of the f/l list is.

also it was banned week 1 in the TCG not OCG. It was legal for months there alongside exchange of spirit in the same format enabling FTK cancer decks lol
Fun fact: Firewall Dragon's second effect has been used exactly once in all of VRAINS thusfar.
Also, funnily, Dark Strike Fighter had an effect pretty similar to the errata'd version in the anime. Meaning the game, of all things, was what made it broken.
Then you remember that the anime is a romanticized version of the game where problems are created and solved by the game itself.

@@nifty6970 true but the character that uses it has only a hand full of monster he can use it on to begin with, if it was like it was on the show you would kind of need to build your deck around it.
Another note about Firewall is how effective it was at link climbing as long as you had the hand resources. Being able to special summon a card from your hand each time you use a monster it points to as material makes it one of the easiest methods of extra linking. It's basically Ultimate Offering 2.0.

@@kefkapalazzo9587 Vijam The Cubic Seed, Exploder Dragon, Grave Squirmer, Kozmoll Wicked Witch, Yubel. There are way more cards... also Yubel can kill the person who activated Last Turn if their LP are low enough and cards like Dark Destroyer with on summon destruction removal, shit like that can get you a free win.
So yeah. It's way easier to force a tie than it is to summon cards like the Wicked Avatar.
Probably the most reliable easily accessed and self-maintaining monsters (that I can think of) for the Last Turn user to use would be Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon or Eater of Millions.
Alternatively some of best monsters (that I can think of) to summon if you get Last Turned would be Vijam The Cubic Seed or Kozmo Dark Destroyer. (Provided on summon effects could activate)
@@namedfuzzball4393 The thing about Last Turn is that it doesn't include any kind of summon-blocking. There are just so many routes to make it end in a draw. Any floater or battle-indestructible monster. Any Special-Summon blocker. Anything that gets rid of the opposing monster before (or in some cases after) the damage step starts. Not to mention the floating effects of stuff that might get sent in the process of activating Last Turn.
Like, what made Last Turn an absolute friggin' joke wasn't the Jowgen combo. It was that you could easily fill your whole deck with cards that didn't necessarily win off Last Turn, but did force a draw, and count on the few times you could pull off the Jowgen combo (or some variant of it, like Jowls of Dark Demise or Non-Aggression Area). After all, two draws and a win is still a win. And three draws... well, it's not a loss.

Lmao, don't make me laugh. Buster Blader, the Dragon destroyer swordsman is an easy fusion that NEGATES the effects of any and ALL dragons. Also forces them to defence and prevents them from changing battle position.

In a more "pure power" way, the two cards black luster soldier envoy and Dragon envoy are really so easy to summon and give you a massive advantage, especially considering you could use the effect of the dragon if somehow your opponent activates a trap or magic card to destroy it. If you try those cards through a cheated Yu-Gi-Oh video games just to see why some are banned you will quickly realise that there is a good reason some cards are banned.

I remember from years and years ago, my younger brother and I went to a small local tourney at some game shop in our city. This was way back in the earlier days of YGO, before even E-Heroes were a twinkle in Konami's eye.
My brother was like 12-13 years old at the time. He played some douche bag guy who cheezed out easy wins by abusing Wall of Revealing Light to instantly burn himself to 1000 LP, activate Last Turn and prevent my brother from getting a monster on the field, or say that Walls attack blocking effect prevented by brother from attacking despite the card being destroyed by Last Turn or something stupid like that. I don't remember the specifics (again, this was like 15 years ago) but it was dirty as hell and the guy was being a real shitheel about it to my brother, who he looked 10+ years older than and for whatever reason he is trying to give some kid the runaround to scum out a win in some silly card game at a local no one cares about. 🙄
Long story short, we went home after that and my brother stopped playing YGO all together.

Not adding sixth sense to a number 10 list of most broken cards was a painful choice.
Is it broken? Definitely, but the fact that is a gamble card makes it unreliable and it's also a trap. In the end you can pull it off 1 in 3 times. In floating decks is great tho
Richard the pastamancer there’s no downside to Sixth Sense. You can either get a result so powerful it’s a game winning effect (drawing 5 to 6 cards) or a decent mill effect, and it’s not a downside in many decks (Lightsworns, Burning Abyss, or pretty much any Zombie Deck ever) to mill cards.

My favorite card probably doesn't deserve to be on this list, but Cyber Jar was my favorite card ever when I played the game when I was 8. A board wipe that lets you refill hands and the field? It's just so neat!
What is so scary about things like Painful Choice, Delinquent Duo, Makyura the Destructor, Last Will, and Graceful Charity (the last two of which should have been on this list) is that none of the cards listed have a power ceiling. No matter how many sets come out with broken cards like Firewall Dragon, the above five cards will *ALWAYS* be super powerful simply because of their design and what they allow players to do, either to benefit themselves or to screw over their opponents.
I feel like almost every broken card could easily be fixed by just putting "You can only use each effect of [card name] once per turn." on it. (not every broken card would be fixed, but the vast majority would be with this)
I mean, you'd think they'd just make that little bit of text mandatory over how many dozens of broken cards they've had to errata or ban over the years that had no limit on them, especially since in Yu-Gi-Oh there's no resource system to limit things naturally, like how there's mana in Magic the Gathering.

It wouldnt help sixth sense, yatagarasu, book of judgement, dragon rulers, delenquent duo, trap dustshoot, pot of greed, chaos dragon envoy of end (without errata) etc. But maybe that would fix some, dunno...

*I want to clarify something about Card of Safe Return* : it was okay by the time it was created because there was almost no easy way of special summoning monsters from the graveyard. Treeborn Frog doesn't work, Call of the Haunted was limited at 1, and the only deck that had a theme of special summoning monsters from the graveyard were Zombies, and even they didn't have that many effects to do it. Book of Life, Vampire Lord's effect if you got lucky it happened or you forced it, Twin-Headed Behemoth. It also was at 3 for a very short time, it was mostly at 1 until it was banned.

For Painful Choice..... what if, instead of sending the cards to the GY, they were just Banished Face down? Maybe that would balance it?

If just one of them is crappy, they will give you the crappy one) And even if it still breaks even, it's not like you will be able to do anything with the 4 that weren't chosen... as the fact that those previously wen't to the GY is the reason why the card is so broken now.

I recently had a traditional touney at my locals and used painful choice in danger/trickstar deck. hands down the funnyest plays of the night for me.

As great as _Shooting Quasar Dragon_ is, it's not a literal auto-win like many of these cards are. Also, _Painful Choice_ doesn't read, "Synchro Summon 1 'Shooting Quasar Dragon' from your Extra Deck." It facilitates a combo, with numerous steps that are each vulnerable to disruption.
Additionally, _Painful Choice_ and _Shooting Quasar Dragon_ were never legal at the same time in the advanced format, so that combo was never an actual factor in competetive play.

I'd like to point out that Card of Safe Return was also involved in a couple of degenerate Exodia OTKs. For example, the Manticore loop, which involves one Manticore of Darkness in your hand and another one in your Graveyard. During the End Phase, you discard the Manticore in your hand to SS the one in your GY, then send that one back to the GY to summon the one you discarded, repeat until your opponent flips the table.
Also Mass Driver burn loops with Lumina and other like-cards.

Now-a-days, meta decks are just tournament decks, even if the deck isn't commonly used in tournaments today. They're still built the same way, so they're still a tourney deck
I think it's because it's so interesting to see someone with authority explain why something works the way it does and go into great detail about any justification. It's interesting to see an expert talk about their expertise with passion.

most of this cards aren't made by konami to be broken and then banned, the problem is that players find ways to exploit them and win them the duel, and also some banned cards that are broken are card that were printed long time ago like painful choice or delinquent duo and during the old time, konami didn't know how broken these cards acctually are until players start to abuse them.
Most of the card that is op is just because they are created during simpler time.Just take grinder golem for example: legit trash until link and it suddenly become the most broken card ever printed the very day link come
To people wondering why Yata-Garasu isn't in the list....
The case about Yata is that Yata is not broken ON HIS OWN, it requires something to combo with in most situations.
But thats also why it will more than likely be forever banned, the amount of different cards nowadays that could combo with Yata would be completely ridiculous, this would lead to so many unhealthy and degenerate strategies.

Rescue Cat's old effect was pretty powerful, lead to tons of 1 card FTKs. Also, pretty surprised that Yatagarasu wasn't on here, even though I don't think it would hurt the game as much as people think in the current game.

why? because it damage the game not like any other broken card, its all thanks to konami refusal of banning it on the first sign of trouble.
if you see other broken card, konami straight up banning it immidietly first time they see a potential destructive mechanic.

They legally couldn't touch it before coming to some sort of agreement with Shueisha and the company in charge of the anime.
It is the card in the anime, banning random cards of the game is fine but banning the Ace Monster of an anime that is currently airing is another story involving literally legal issues alongside a lot of additional problems including potential damage to new audiences dragged in by VRAINS if they so happens to be, gets excited, try to get the Ace Monster, and realizes you can't use it because it was banned.
This wasn't a problem before because they never had to ban an Ace Monster of the Protagonist ever before.
Maybe put some thought into an Ace monster's effect if you are deciding not to touch it afterwards.

I’ve seen the new Exchange of the Spirit still work with a Monarch’s deck that just sent both players extra decks to the graveyard, so as long as people run 15 card extra decks; you just need to last 1 turn against a player without the ability to search their deck.
Card of safe return was used in the anime by Marik’s mindslave Strings to make Slifer unstoppable, in combination with Revival Jam, who instantly revived from the graveyard if destroyed in the anime, and a card I forget the name of that made Revival Jam always intercept an attack. The strategy was defeated by Yugi using Brain Control to take control of the Revival Jam, which caused Slifer’s second ability to activate, which makes new monsters on the opponent’s field lose 2000 Attack points, and be destroyed if their attack became 0 by this effect. Revival Jam would proceed to be resurrected to Yugi’s field, and Strings would draw 3 new cards. Slifer became more powerful, Revival Jam was destroyed, Strings drew 3 cards, and this continued until Strings lost because he couldn’t draw any new cards. This shows that Konami definitely knew what they were doing by creating the real card, and then it proceeded to be banned even with its nerfed effect. Konami is honestly weird sometimes, they even stated that Chaos Emperor Dragon was outlawed from official Duel Monsters Tournaments in GX, so what’s up?

Judgment is a 1 card God board and hand. It resolves, its game TURN 0. And theres 6 searches for it plus cards that repeat its effect
@@NY-Buddy exodia wasn't the most op version, exchange of the spirit was, literally the only way for that deck to not win instantly turn 1 was if they draw 6 of the draw 1 trap cards, then if they don 't get otk'd they still win the next turn. All other combinations they win before you can make any moves period. Thats literally the strongest possible deck in the entire game and would be the only tournament deck if its legal. Judgement while good doesn't matter against this when its not a FTK, All the advantages and setups can be countered when they have a god hand too, even at its height it wasn't a tier 0 deck and other could compete against it, nothing competes against exchange of the spirit FTK.
Exchange of the Spirit + Makyura: Solitaire deck.
Technically traptrix atrax brings the effect of makyura back but with a specific type of "hole" trap cards but you can still activate them from your hand making her op if you have hole trap cards in your hand especially treacherous trap hole on the first turn

A card so broken that it was even mentioned as being a banned card IN THE ANIME! I really don't know how the people who made the card wrote down its effect and were like, "Yeah, that seems about right." It would be broken in today's standards, so releasing back in such an early age of yugioh was akin to putting to Messi on the field in a middle school soccer game.
I feel like you just completely forgot Victory Dragon. This was a good list, but Victory Dragon really is on a whole other level from everything on this list. It may be kinda slow and situational, but the ability to instantly win a match goes beyond just OTKing or FTKing, that's potentially just skipping 2 whole games
I think alot of players who don't go to tournaments don't realize the difference between a Duel and a Match.

That, and not the cards effect, is why it was banned. It resulted in a lot of arguments about whether the opponent surrendered in before damage calculation or not. It was wasting too much time with players calling for judges and disrupting tournament rounds. So basically it was banned so sanctioned events would run smoother.
One simple way of stopping the argument would have been if your opponent had Victory Dragon on the field and you had nothing whatsoever to negate the summon and stop attack(s) that destroyed any field monsters and/or reduced your life points to 0 via direct attack from other monsters and Victory, surrendering could not occur. Otherwise you could surrender as soon as you had nothing on the field and Victory came out. It's so highly situational I feel if you're on the wrong side of it you should lose the match. If it had far more consistency like Firewall/Danger FTK e.t.c then yeah it would deserve banning because that was just sheer aids.
Could you repeat this theme but from the perspective of Duel Links? Cards like Amazoness Onslaught, Treacherous Trap and Golden Bamboo would make the list :p
Mentioning Amazoness Onslaught but not Sea Stealth Attack is a bit of bias there.
People complained about Onslaught because they didn't want to add any Spell/Trap removal.
Lord Nightraven at no point did he ever say those were the ONLY cards that would make the list. In fact, they specifically said “cards like” so it was never even implied.
last turn errata: you can only play this card on your opponent's turn when your life points are 1000 or less. select 1 monster on your side of the field which does not have an effect preventing summoning. then your opponent summons 1 monster from their deck (ignoring summoning conditions) and battles with the monster you selected. also your opponent's monster gains 1 attack (during damage calculation only). the owner of the destroyed monster loses the duel.
I think Last Turn can come back if Konami decide to put something like, "When this card's activate, negate all other card's effect until this card's effect resolves."

Have you considered a 'top 10 direct attackers' video? You discussed direct attackers in 2015 but there are a lot of new ones relevant to the nets meta since then, and it wasn't a top 10 video.
Btw I like the format of these videos. Perfect length, and good descriptions for someone like me who generally keeps current but doesn't always know the entire meta in-and-out.

It was a Super Rejuvenation for Spellbooks, and was the main card that let Spellbooks compete with one of the most powerful decks in the game.
If it weren't for Judgement, Dragon Rulers would be tier 0.
Spellbooks and Dragons were both really easily fixed with Zombie World. It shut down all their shit. They required spellcasters and dragons and had only zombies...It shut down monarch Frogs and stuff too.

No, no it's not. No deck should be able to gain as much advantage as super rejuv and judgement gave someone. This can be proven by arguing for Firewall Dragon. Yes, Firewall could in theory be stopped by something as common as Summon Limit, does that mean we should have Firewall at 1 or 3? Absolutely not, and the same goes for other cards that provide absurd advantage such as Spellbook of Judgement and Super Rejuv. People will find ways to run it if it was released from the banlist today. Look at Rudra, a simple draw 2 card was teched in several decks just for the advantage it provided. The same would happen for Judgement only much worse.
I never said it was OK. I hated that meta. Truly. Roll the dice to see who wins.
Judgement was a really stupidly powerful card.
But I had an out that many did not. I ran, and still run, zombies, so the 2 big decks really did not affect me at all. It was the other annoying decks at the time that were more problematic.

This is random. I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh in over 10 years. I remember delinquent duo being broken. I used to run that and confiscation. You'd decimate your opponent's hand in just a single turn.
Don't quite remember card of safe return being broken. Maybe newer formats had/have more special summoning than back in the day? Idk, I just remember everyone had the cards I mentioned above, chaos emperor dragon, BLS, yata garasu, so in and so forth. I miss yugioh, fun times in my life. Thanks for the nostalgia! Card of Safe Return being broken is a relatively recent development. I quit playing in the OG Cyber Dragon days (a good 2 years after CoSR was out) and summoning from the graveyard was still a pretty rare thing, IIRC. Monster Reborn was banned, Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted were limited, and we expected them to get the banhammer soon, too.

It seems like what you would want to with that is have it be that you fight over twelve total pieces of Ice (absolutist Arcane Lab) for which Traps do not count with the Edge/Monarch and with a hidden information bid/swing of 3/4/5. Great success.

It's perfect the way it is, it's painful for either for your opponent or you (if you don't have any graveyard effects).
