I’m impressed with the CDS answers to the questions. I used to think he wasn’t capable of commanding the armed forces due to his background, but he proved me wrong. Kudos! General, Nigeria armed forces problem is not financial, underfunding or money. The institution’s problems are: 1. Corruption: Many armed forces personnel- Army, Airforce, Navy, Police are not in the force to serve the country but to make money. Check out how stinking rich all the ex generals are/were. 2. Nigeria armed forces are not nationalistic.They were formed to serve and protect the Northern leaders and the Northern region (too political). 3. Shortage of manpower and brainy Nigerians that can contribute towards producing the weapons that the Nigeria needs. To solve all these problems, please increase the number of personnel. Nigeria is a country of over 240million , so we need minimum 1million personnel… even on ordinary 20k per month as pocket money or personal allowance. Serving in the armed forces is not to make money but to offer yourself to serve your people and your country.
I have always commented on most Nigerian television stations that it was a bad idea interviewing military leaders on public television unless the military on their own decide to brief the public on what they are doing with very limited questions asked. The enemies listen to these interview for planning their own strategy. You will hardly see a general being interviewed on the public television in the United States and Russia unless the military wants to provide an update. The reason for this is because the journalist are not trained in military affairs to know what question to ask and not to ask. The Senator asking for the use of public contractors is dumb because as the General has said that will not make a difference and the war is not a conventional war where the enemies are known. It is the Nigerian army that will still guide the military contractors.
