@Tanay Shahi obviously it's subjective. I like the song a lot but people like different things. I can for sure guarantee tho that DPS didn't just forget how to make a song. Its clearly intentional but music isn't for everyone hence why we got like 10 different genres

Straight facts
I typically don’t comment on other comments of reactions. But…this is exactly it. From gentleman to insanity in an instant. Really meant to represent to the two sides of who he is.
This song really put it into perspective for me. For a while I thought Screw didn't like DPS because of his analysis. He would ignrore DPS rapping as the characters.
But what I think it is, is Screw as an artist doesn't really understand or care for the uniqueness that DPS has. He compares it to Kayne a lot, and Kayne is the "misunderstood artist."
Screw likes the simpler consistent styles of rap. Early DPS gets higher marks from Screw, but that version of DPS grew into what we now have. Someone who likes switch ups, orchestra style choruses, really over the top, but also still tying in things from specific characters.
I think DPS isn't really screws thing anymore, he doesn't often know the character so the references are missed and the over the top style doesn't resonate with him.

Totally agree with this comment and would like to add the following:
1) Like Screw said "this doesn't feel like a song it feels like an experience" - absolutely, I think that's what DPS aims for.
2) For a while DPS's motto was "different music" and indeed he intends to do it differently, blatantly deviating from the "normal" structure of rap.
3) Knowing a little bit of the character definitely helps appreciate the rap more, but I would take that a step further and say that trying to relate to the character (i.e. really looking at it as a firsthand narration) gives an additional depth to the rap. This depth gets multilayered if you look at the themes described in the rap as universal or apply it to other situations than the character plot, this occurs a lot in DPS raps.
4) The dramatic change in the rap could signify Jack's duality: being a "gentlemen" or protagonist (first half of the song) while at the same time a chaotic psycho murderer (second half).
Over all I think DPS did an outstanding job, as usual there is so much to unpack (I didn't even touch the lyrics or the visuals). It is indeed an experience.
The switch represented the character very well I thought. The first half of the fight he was collected and gentlemanly, then the 2nd half he was unhinged and psychotic. Him singing London Bridge is Falling in the fight was the turning point in his personality and demeanor.

I mean it perfectly captures the character, so I love it. The unpredictability and insanity is on point. Funnily enough, Scru is the embodiment of the crowd during Jack's fight with Heracles. He falls for every lie Jack has up his sleeve.
Scru hating on DPS being great, evolving and making pure 🔥🔥 because his own music mediocre AF😂 He even thought the "London Bridge is falling down, my fair lady" part sounded tribal when it was obviously inspired by Victorian times😂

Rap was 🔥 and Jack the reaper vs Hercules is easily one of the best fights in the anime when I was reading the manga I couldn't wait for it to be animated also jack English va 👌🏾
I think the song is structured how jack fights. In his match he divided it into I believe 4 parts like a play and I each “act” he revealed something about himself or his weapon or changed how he fought or acted
The reason he did that is because Jack the ripper is Mr anonymous who has gone through different names and styles

Hey screw I think the reason the verse and chorus don't go together is because DPS might be doing it to represent how jack the ripper in the anime is actually two different people.
One being a dark serial killer hence the chorus and the other being kind of low down person that killed the ripper and took his identity but didn't adopt any of his actual darkness.
Honestly... I like what DPS did with the song and how it's constructed. It may not be perfect... BUT, fits the character he's rapping about perfectly. It was unpredictable, had different feels to each chorus and verse... Like Jack the Ripper was unpredictable and every kill of his had different feel to it. Plus, Jack was more than likely living double life. When he wasn't out on a prowl, normal life, on a prowl, Jack the Ripper. It just... fits perfectly if you think about it.
I feel like your creativity is very limited scru cause you seem to miss every single clever and creative thing DPS does
So let me explain my theory for the verse flip. Jack the ripper is an old school legend like King Arthur, because of this his story has been told through media countless times and as many different ways so if you were to talk about the man himself, he would end up a bit schizophrenic and have multiple personalities. Which is why I think the constant change up of the flows are there, to show how different every facet of his personality shine through.
The flow fits the characters. Gentle introduction that leaves confusion with the first verse. Time to think with mild confusion wondering where's he going with London Bridge. And then of coarse a grand finally with grand showmanship

So the reason Jack's flow is so different three times is because he was never caught! He swaped up his moves and how he killed people.
So it makes sense that Jacks raps dont follow a single pattern, Jack was never caught... So you cant catch up to his rhyme style. Its a big plus to DPS.

yeah as a lot of the comments are saying we are starting to get out of Scru's territory/style in music. Its not a bad thing. But you can also feel it when Scru doesnt know the character, cause i dont think DPS is putting the effort in making the lyrics represent the character. But more the beat,flow and switch ups in the song, which i think says more about the characters personality and i honestly think thats an amazing way to go around the nerdcore genre.

DPS likes to incorporate his as if it were the person he's rapping about or in similarity. The reason you feel like you heard three different songs is because it represents insanity, just like someone with a split personality feels like your talking to 3 different people.

I think you should do breakdowns and then a whole playthrough of the song to get full context of the story some music really tells, some of DPS work goes underappreciated a little for that.

I might recommend watching the fight this is about. It’s one of the best in the series and it might clarify why this felt disjointed. You’re technically listening to multiple songs, or at least perspectives. The first half is more representative of a facade, with the second half with the “bridge falling” is jacks mask starting to crack more and more until in the final stretch it’s completely shattered. Basically you fell for the same bullshit that the crowd did during the fight, but you started catching on quick.
Sorry if this doesn’t make sense, mildly autistic and not the best at explaining things.
It seems to me with DPS. You always go on to discuss and analyze the hook and the beat instead of the rap and the style of his flow or his word play

Well the reason it feels like your listening to three songs is because it's supposed to give listeners the feeling like it's you don't know what the truth is and it's very deceptive to the point of confusion much like Jack the ripper if you understand his character in record of ragnarok and lore behind his actions in both the Manga and in the show.

Aight so I figured it needed to be said now. Scru you dont get DPS, that is point blank what it is. You are not being mean or unfair as people have claimed but you are missing the point. DPS has a tendency to rap AS the character but not ABOUT the character so to speak. You have openly admitted that you havnt watched the anime for most of the raps you react to, that is fine but with DPS if you dont know the source material its not going to hit the same way. DPS has also just moved away from what you seem to be into, you seem to respond extremely well to basic, simple, consistent and safe styles of rap and DPS moved off of that a while back.

I have to agree with your assessment of how the song was arranged. And maybe my ears are not as sharp but I would have liked an added cue or two from the percussions to better link the chorus to the second verse. The transition was not as smooth between the two for me.

So, the thing I've pieced together, when DPS hits a vein and starts dedicating to the character, the smoothness of the overall song falls short.
Like don't get me wrong. This song COMPLETELY matches Jack, and it is NOT a bad song, but there is TOO big a difference from the start to the end.
If you opened this song and told me to say HOW MANY songs played, I'd have thought that it was two songs with a fade between them. Same with "Ragnarok", "Cyber Psycho", and "Arise".
By no means are ANY of them bad songs, but they feel like multiple songs with a cross-fade to link them together.
Its just a song it aint that deep😅
