TVS Apache 180 vs Pulsar 180 - Drag Race | MotorBeam

- www.motorbeam.com has heard the request of all the MotorBeamers and has put the TVS Apache RTR 180 in a drag race against the Bajaj Pulsar 180. Both these bikes are powered by 180cc engines and closely compete with each other in the Indian market but the TVS Apache has an upper hand as it also gets the option of a dual-channel ABS which even the more expensive Pulsar RS 200 misses out on as it gets only a single-channel ABS unit.
The TVS Apache 180 uses a 177.4cc engine to produce 17.03 BHP and 15.5 Nm while the Pulsar 180 belts out 16.78 BHP and 14.22 Nm from its 178.6cc motor. The Apache is lighter but is the Pulsar the faster bike?

Going further the power band actually makes you slow. Peak power for both of them is at 9500 Rpm. I saw the Apache guy shifting at 11k

Most of the times I drive 50-55----60kmph…..
Previously I used to get 38kmpl in city and 47kmpl in highway using TVS engine oil (Red Bottle). From a 180cc engine, this is quite satisfying. During 3rd servicing one of the technician suggested me to use TVS TRU 4T engine oil (Blue Bottle) for better performance with 6000km of runtime instead 1200km. I found this is value for money, and I turned to Blue.....
After 3rd servicing, I’m amazed…..!
Vibrations are lesser then before, and amazingly mileage has been increased too. You don’t believe how much mileage I’m getting…..
It is, 45+kmpl in city, and 58+kmpl in highway…..

I have heard the tyres on the Apaches are not that good. I am thinking of getting a non abs 180 but since the monsoons are approaching, would you recommend changing the tyres as soon as I get the bike? I mostly will be riding in the city, with a long ride on the highway in the rains, once every 2 weeks. Really would appreciate an expert's view on it

Can any one answer what is the benefit of redlining in a drag race?
i think it lets the engine stay in the power band. Power does trail away after a certain rpm, i usually shift 500-700 rpm before the redline
+Nishant Nair peak power does come before the redline and not at it, you shift it right.
apache does not have a rev limiter like the other bikes ...
+Nishant Nair u can shift upto 8500 rpm coz at that instance u get the max power out of the engine ,,but past 8500 the power gradually starts decreasing..

i actually like the bikes frm tvs n their ability to come up with a new concepts without any influence of foreign bike production companies. ppl do say it vibrates a lot, bt i kinda like the feel of the throttle, ur whole body can feel the vibes n get u in adrenaline. apache 200 acc to me a little disappointment in terms of power. i hope new AKULA 310 R does it better.
But TVS takes a long time to put its bikes into production.
aceepted bt still only one flaws i can see in those bikes is the 2004v cuz after years of 200 cc segment research they were nt able to build a performance machine

I've bought a pulsar 180 bs4 this diwali. It's something that's beyond my expectations. It's one hell of a beast. May be i am not sure about apache 180 however I've took a test drive for both. Pulsar is more comfortable, faster and even good in milage as well. So if you are looking for sporty looks more power comfortable and ofcourse the best in 180 segment go for pulsar 180. Life of pulsars are more then apaches.

Dear MotorBeam ,i have an Apache RTR 180 ABS - 2015,, and i can say i am a proud owner of her, i have a lap time of 0-60 in 3.9 Secs, and a top speed yet of 134 KMPH, and i can assure u , she can easily beat a R15(because i have raced with and even driven myself), Pulsar 180 , she even gives a strong attack on Pulsar 220(well honestly up-to speeds of 80 or 100KMpH, because admit it 220 is bigger,powerful but still,) R15 goes nice top speed better than my bike but till 120 even R15 is nothing,.
Please go for a drag race of an Apache RTR 180 and a R15 ,, i can assure u wont be disappointed .
P.S. Dear Pulsar fan boys , i mean no disrespect but please admit it pulsar are nice but not always meant to be better, your Pulsar 150 has an awesome Mileage.
And Drag results can vary but if u put on a race, oh boy Apache will kill its opponent

+Motor Beam great drag race.. i know apache is faster... reason.? Light weight.. Apache is 10kgs lighter than Pulsar.. and rtr technology is a marketing strategy.. its just the throttle valve Opens wider with short turn.. I've did it with my Bajaj Bravo scooter.. by using shorter wire....
Moreover.. apache doesn't have Flywheel and Clutch load balancer.. and with those components missing.. the engine revvs faster.. but Creates unbalanced forces.. which results in vibration..
see the difference between a Pulsar And Apache.. Pulsar Revvs smoothly even in its top end(due to clutch load balancer and Dts-i).. while apache becomes harsh(flywheel and Balancer are missing)
