Causes of Blood Acidosis

Blood acidosis is when blood pH is too low (below 7.35). Respiratory acidosis is caused when the lungs fail to breathe out enough carbon dioxide; this is commonly found in COPD. Metabolic acidosis is caused when the cells are generating too much acid or the kidneys are failing to excrete enough acid, or if they are unable to retain enough bicarbonate.
