Love cactus soil… I use it and only it for the past +5 years now. Perfect balance of organic/cec and inorganic/aeration, imo (esp for dry hot SoCal). 🏜 Super easy and simple to use too… no mixing, no buying multiple soils, etc.
I used pure pumice sifted into 3 layers..the larges grains on the lowest layer…super fine material all sifted out ..everything washed…also I use shade cloth on bottom of mesh tray…raise the tray up to allow plenty of airflow….rooting powder dip….mist every couple hours during daytime….cover..warm temperature is good..I only tried this once and had great success..beginner luck
Great video, thanks for the demonstration. I really like the wire trick! I also want to get more woody cuttings and leave some bark on like you showed. Now to go get some trays and cactus soil :D
i've recently bought a katsura and took cuttings from it, it seems to be way stronger than deshojo. Cutting's roots are already coming out from the bottom of the container
Wonderful video as always. Can you root Japanese Maples by simply placing the cuttings into water. I root many cuttings this way but I've never tried Japanese Maples. Thank you.
Hi Momiji love the video, I have a cutting right now in the shaded area so far so good. Question after the pinching from the branch do you have to seal the the bark from the tree?
I think I got it from a local nursery. You can find something similar on Amazon! www.amazon.com/dp/B001IPYM9Q?tag=onamzakitoshi-20&linkCode=ssc&creativeASIN=B001IPYM9Q&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.26NA5BLRVPY4
It could be that the soil is not moist enough all the time or each cutting has too many leaves and drying up faster than it could absorb water from the soil?
I like your content. I really hope that the Cuttings will grow.
Thank you, I hope so too!
Really useful demonstration. I'm interested.in seeing which soil section works best for rooting the cuttings. All of your trees look well loved.
Thank you! Historically both cactus mix and super small particle akadama/pumice worked pretty well. Let's see how it will go this time! :)
Gracias.

What’s the brand ? Did you get it online ?

Go! 😁
Deseando ver los resultados. Gracias.
Exelente!!!!! se podra ver en un futuro el desarrollo de los esquejes.Gracias y tenga buen dia.--
Great video, thanks! Any thoughts on how acers from cuttings compare to grafted acers?
good luck!
Thank you!!

Cool!
I hope they grow up healthy; later in the future will be very good tree/bonsai
Yes that's my hope! 😊👍
Hi! Great job! Sharing is caring, thanks for sharing your knowledge, one q. how many months until they root properly?
Thanks! It depends but I can generally repot them in the same season (3-4 months)
@@MomijiEn Thanks!!!!
Hi great Video! 👍🏻
Have you ever done it on a Acer Shirasawanum? 😊
No I haven't! I gotta try it next year!
Wonderful video as always. Can you root Japanese Maples by simply placing the cuttings into water. I root many cuttings this way but I've never tried Japanese Maples. Thank you.
Thank you! No I don't think it's possible to propagate JM cuttings in water. It does not shoot roots like Pilea...wish it would 😅
What is the theory behind tearing the cutting from the mother plant vs cutting it with scissors?
It exposes more internal tissues and encourages the root growth :)
Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. One question, why the three different soil mixtures? Is it an experiment to determine which is best?
Thanks! That's correct, I know which works better from my experience but wanted to capture it for the video :)
@@MomijiEn From your experience, is it the Catus mix?
Hi Momiji love the video, I have a cutting right now in the shaded area so far so good. Question after the pinching from the branch do you have to seal the the bark from the tree?
No you can leave it as it, the tree will heal the wounds as it's so small
Whats the best temperature to take cuttings uk months. Any help would be amazing.
Not sure about the temperature. However I like to take cuttings one new leaves are hardened off.
Where did you acquire that nice green repotting tray?
I think I got it from a local nursery. You can find something similar on Amazon! www.amazon.com/dp/B001IPYM9Q?tag=onamzakitoshi-20&linkCode=ssc&creativeASIN=B001IPYM9Q&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.26NA5BLRVPY4
@@MomijiEn thanks
Do u think I can root cuttings without rotting hormone and using normal soil mix?
I think you can although using rooting hormone could increase the chance of success.
I tried the same method, but my cuttings get dry in 4 or 5 days. I dont know why.. temperature 20-25dgrs, on shady place....and still drying..
It could be that the soil is not moist enough all the time or each cutting has too many leaves and drying up faster than it could absorb water from the soil?
How many of the potting mixtures are renewable within our lifetime?
hmm good question but not sure...
So when is your nursery opening? 😂
For real though.
It's open by appointment 🙂
@@MomijiEn you're too far for me lol 😩
😲👌🍎🙂
