For the past year, Geoff's voice narrating this story has been able to achieve what no medications, techniques or doctors have been able to achieve: To make me fall asleep within half an hour.
I have been an insomniac since my early teens, and on average sleep 2-4 hours at night, IF I sleep at all.
This has made work life and life in general very difficult, it's exhausting to function when your brain is constantly running on way too little sleep, or no sleep at all.
So when I am having one of my insomnia spells, when I am awake night after night after night with no sign of sleep in sight, I put this video on and in less than 30 minutes I'm asleep.
It relaxes me, comforts me, keeps my brain occupied on a story, but without interesting me enough to keep me awake. To this day I still don't know how the story ends.
I hope I never will.
Thank you Geoff, for making my life manageable again. I will probably never get a full night's sleep, but this video ensures me getting 2-4 hours of sleep instead of zero. Zero sleep makes a life not worth living. It makes you contemplate what the point is to keep breathing. I can get through my days now with just being sleepy, instead of braindead.

I understand. For me the insomnia cure is Shenandoah. It soothes away my stress and lets me breathe deeply. Geoff is a gift.
@@CJ_536 I often start with Shenandoah to start calming the brain down, switch over to Till Then a few times to get relaxed, and then turn the narration on. Then it's lights out 😄
No kidding. I don't even know how many times I've put this on and not remembered hearing the end.😂 Nothing is quite like the soothing effect of this narration.

OH MY GOD GEOFF are you kidding me? One hour? I literally just jumped up and down in my chair like a little kid when I saw this... you don't know which favour you've done to the many people out there with sleep problems...
Geoff, we don't really care if this version is waaaay darker, some of us admire the macabre! And with a voice like that..... you could storytell us a written version of A Serbian Film and we'd still be all snuggled up in our jammies and with our teddybears for comfort. You truly turn my bad days around! Never stop! We love you, very much!
I guess, even before I Heard it completley, that this is just the original story. Not the pink Pussy Disney version. And I would not call this "dark". There is a beautiful message in the original story. It' Just takes a little effort to grasp it.
This is the Actual Work of the author of this book/story. Hans Christian Anderson was a master story teller. Check out his works!

Andersen's Little Mermaid teaches that sacrificing yourself is a bad idea, and no one will appreciate it. Disney's Little Mermaid teaches that you will get a prince for your sacrifices and good behavior. No, it was Anderson who was right.🧐
H. C. AndersEn, not AndersOn. He was Danish, not Swedish. In Demark the "sen" (indicating "son of") is that, in Sweden it's "son" same meaing, different spelling.

I've been searching for the classical music album that accompanied this story when I was a child in the 70s. I recall it being somewhat frightening, but enchanting at the same time. Can't find it anywhere. I don't recall if it was an opera or ballet...... anyone know what I'm referring to? One of my mother's many albums.

Your Bass voice is so awesome in songs and other things you do. I love how you narrated this story to. Your voice is so deep, so calming, so sweet, I just listen to your music and videos all day. I was at a bad time in my life 3 years ago but when i found you and your team, I started to listen to you guys so much. I remember my grandfather reading this to me when I was really little. I'd completely forgotten about it and he passed away a few years ago, so thank you for unlocking this memory.

Being Danish I have heard this fairy tale many times, but this is absolutely one of the best versions I have ever come by, and I would absolutely love to hear you narrate more of H.C. Andersens work.

It took me a while to get through The Little Mermaid without falling asleep, and when I did hear the ending, I was surprised! This definitely isn't the Disney version, and it made me a little sad. I did a presentation about Hans Christian Andersen's story The little girl with the matchsticks today. But the little mermaid is another one of my favourites. Being Norwegian with Danish family, I speak fluently, read and understand Danish, so I read these stories in Danish. Loved this video so much, it almost lulled me to sleep. You are the best Geoff. @@GeoffCastellucci Just wait until you read some of the original German fairytales. I was rather shocked that anyone would read that to their kids. Sweet dreams!...or not...Disney is good at changing them into something much more kid friendly.
@@russellharkins6847 It's rather interesting--in some cases, the Disney version is _better_ in both the telling and the moral than the original. A perfect example would be Pinocchio. But Little Mermaid suffered the Disney transition horribly and utterly ruined the original moral to the story. It became a story about how a spoiled brat got everything she wanted with no lasting consequences.

Also, I grew up with the originals of most fairy tales, as I was never much interested in movies, including disney. Nowadays that has the benefit of seeing everyone around me freak out about the tales I grew up with. "What, they told that to KIDS? It's so dark and violent! Poor kids!"
My personal favorite fairy tale was the one where the princess slaughters 39 dragons and then is haunted by the 40th dragon for decades :) I was a weird kid
