  • iMovie has just had a major update that brings with it two awesome new features. My favourite of the two, Storyboards, is covered in this short and easy-to-follow tutorial video.
With Storyboards you no longer have to dive straight into a blank timeline in iMovie. Instead you can choose a topic (News Report, Product Review, Top 5 etc etc) and Movie will get you started by providing a detailed and well thought-out Shot List. It'll suggest when to do a close-up shot, when to talk directly to camera and what content to include as a voiceover. It's incredibly easy (and fun!) to use.
Also new in iMovie is the awesome Magic Movie feature. I've made another video about that here: • Quickly Create Magic M...

Hello! Thank you for this tutorial. My grade 4 class is loving making our product reviews. Questions I can not seem to find the answers to online:
-can we add/edit transitions in storyboard (on ipad)? The transitions don't seem to be selectable.
-can we do picture-in-picture in storyboard (on pad)?
If no to these questions - can we convert the storyboard to a project and edit it there? I see how you do this on a laptop (file>convert), but I can't see how to do this while working on an ipad, which is what the kids are using. Any advice would be very welcome! Thank you!

Great video! How do you change a storyboard project into a movie project? I need to adjust sound and video more separately for final pass.

I have been making videos with iMovie on my phone but never checked out story board or magic movie. I think they compliment regular editing. I could create a shorter 30-90 second clip with them to insert into my regular edits.
    Big question:
Does iMovie for iPad have features that the iPhone version doesn’t have?

This was great! Haven’t used iMovie for awhile so appreciate the updates. BTW, how do use a Memoji to narrate your videos? Love this!

Hi Jacob, thank you for the video. I want to create a storyboard to display my 50 years of marriage at a reunion we are going to have with my family. I don't know which template may be better for it. Which one do you think might be a better choice? I want to have a lot of pictures, few videos and some text pages. Thank you.

That sounds like a wonderful project, congratulations on 50 years!
I’d suggest starting with one like Celebration. You can add as many clips as you’d like to a Storyboard too - even if there aren’t placeholders. Just tap the + button and you can add additional clips that way.
      Hope that helps!

Is there a way to use this with videos filmed in portrait mode for TH-cam shorts?

Not really I'm afraid. Have you tried the Clips app? I find that much better for vertical videos.

my yoga channel is me leading (demoing & teaching) a full 30-60 minute yoga class, how could i benefit from StoryBoard? I was thinking of using it as an Intro, for each of my videos, could I add that to my i-movie project!🙏✌🧘🏻‍♀
