The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Is Sharper And Now Has AWD!

- For 2024 Hyundai has added AWD to their family sedan and made the look a little less... catfishy than before. Thankfully they didn't drop the excellent 2.5L turbo in the process, so if you want a performance sedan, this is going to be among the few mainstream options left...

This looks way better and cooler than the awkward hammerhead new Camry imo.
N Line should have the AWD , otherwise this is pointless
Hyundai and Kia are just blowing everyone out of the water right now. Their design is kept updated and fresh, the engines are top notch, their EV segment is innovating like crazy (they were the 1st ones with 800v architecture that is now becoming standard).
The list goes on and on.
I love the refresh, which replaces that awkward roundness of the current model's front fascia. I also appreciate the updates to the cabin as well as Hyundai not giving up on the N-Line, since we no longer have an Accord 2.0T nor Camry V6.
I hate the catfish design. This new design really got my attention. Thanks for the good review ❤❤❤❤❤
This car looks so much better than the Camry. The redesign is great.
Nicely done. Kept the greenhouse unchanged, which was the best part of the design, while fixing the gaping maw and adding interesting and more modern taillights. The interior looks great, too. This is startlingly comprehensive for a refresh.
That’s a great option. I always gravitate towards sedans because these are more efficient than SUVs, specially at highway speeds. However, I was really impressed with the Camry but I know price wise is gonna be higher.
especially after the greedy dealerships tack on their mark-up for zero value add.
My spouse is the same. Only wants a sedan. Thinks they are amazing end of sentence! Yet always takes my suv.”to haul stuff”. Ever chase that it’s available. Because it has awd and more room. My spouse is making it crazy difficult to find a new car. Says he wants a sedan but everything he says screams suv. Augh!
@@xzimxzimyikes. Idiosyncrasies in a relationship csn be challenging.
I love my 21’ sonata, I may upgrade to this. Although the new Sante Fe is tempting too
That Sonata looks nice but for about the same price i would go with the Camry, I still have faith in Toyota's repuation for build quality.
Even if the Toyota V6 is gone and it’s nothing but turbo-4’s. That says a lot about Toyota reliability. It’s gonna be a sad day once when Toyota stops being reliable thanks to EV mandates.
I guess this car doesn’t exist once again… I mean I really wish there were other brands that were as reliable as Toyota, Honda or Mazda that I could consider.
Nah I'd go with the Sonata

Lots of faithful owners of the Subaru brand.

Sonata is a fine choice.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this vehicle here
That panel at 3:36 looks like a great place for a Magsafe mount.
Looks like they took inspiration from all their other models to create this Sonata. The new Kona with the long lightbar across its face, the Elantra with the lightbar across the rear, and the pixels from the Ionic lineup especially
I absolutely love this redesign and how the new Hyundai lineup is looking.
Camry for reliability and resale value.
Alex, thanks for hanging in there at the L.A. auto show ;-) Is the FWD-only on the hybrid model a weight issue? Too many configurations? Or something else?
You are looking very healthy Alex, great video as always!
great refresh Hyundai, well done!! Did Alex lose some weight? looking great Alex! keep up the good work, can't wait for Sonata vs Camry vs Accord
Currently leasing a ‘23 Sonata NLine and besides its missing a few “luxurious conveniences” to which I’m accustomed, I absolutely love it otherwise - even the widely-controversial front fascia. Was considering leasing a G80 Sport next but after seeing that refresh revealed, I’m considering leasing another given how sharp it truly is.
I’d much rather have this new Sonata over the new Camry. Toyota lost me as a buyer when they got rid of the bulletproof NA V6 and went all hybrid. Love what Hyundai has done here
Does the limited hybrid trim retain the solar panel roof? This hybrid model you shown had a panoramic moonroof.
Honestly I may be an outlier in thinking this, but for this year's show I'm finding the sonata and the prelude as my favorites. I'm partial towards the Sonata having had a couple in the past, and I like to see the newer models being improved upon after the many flaws
I had experienced firsthand.
The front looks better than current gen's. But also reminds me of Nio? Lucid?
Was checking one of these out at the dealership yesterday. Man, that dashboard is awesome! Nice car
Explain the difference betwen the two AWD designs you mentioned and which one is better. Thank you.
If I’m not mistaken the limited trim usually have these kind of rims! Here in south Florida they come out in a few months or so!
I loved the video. Thank you. I’m turning in my lease and getting another Sonata.
I love the refreshed face. Just drove one of these for a week. Super smooth and quiet.
Also, the instrument cluster has been changed. It's not as flashy as the old style and does not change with drive mode. More basic than the older one.
I would rather have the Camry because of the eCVT and rear electric motor. I understand that others prefer the more mechanical versions, like what’s found here in the Hyundai, but I’d fear the longevity.
Light bar across the front-end of hood resembles Lucid Air, eh? 🤷🏼🤷🏻♀
What trim is this? I've seen other photos of the Sonata 2024, and it showed a different version of the tires. I personally don't like how these tires look, and I don't think they suit this redesign that well. Some of the other tires compliment the body of the car so well, but these ones don't, in my opinion.
I really liked the front DRLs that transitioned into the chrome strip on the outgoing model, but this definitely brings the Sonata in line with the rest of Hyundai. The rear lights making an H is very clever, and I'm really digging the ANGLES. I love the look of a boxy car with hard angles, but that's not aerodynamic at all. Hyundai and Kia are implementing hard angles into the car's design while maintaining aero and I dig it!
The front turn signals are housed at the corners of the light bar, not down low.
Wish someone could explain the purpose of the fabric pad to the left of the gauge cluster.
This hyundai sonata looks a lot better than the previous. It has a more Sporty rally car front end versus the fish lips. I stand by the hyundai sonata reliability. I currently own a 2009 Hyundai sonata With 261000 miles. I have only changed one alternator in one battery since only in this vehicle outside of regular maintenance such as tires and oil. My current sonata still cranks and runs like brand new. However, what is age? The ride is rough and the instruments are looser inside and out. I do not plan on parting ways with my 2009 Sontata. As a long-term owner, it's definitely a workhorse. I have test driven the 2023 Hyundai sonata. But I just couldn't get past the front end of the fish lips. It's perfect timing when in the market for a fresh new look. I can't wait to test drive the limited hybrid model.
So far my top 3 is going be the new Camry then Sonata, and last Honda accord in the mid size car segment.
The light below the headlamps is not the turn signal. The turn signal is in the lightbar. The lower light would be too low to be a turn signal. Appears to be a side facing parking lamp. You can turn on the signal or waning flashers and see. Would be a good addition to your reviews.
I was looking for this comment. Correct, that side marker light is only there in the US market to meet regulations.
@@grahammartin7478 Yup, unfortunately the quality of car reviewers has gone waaaaaaaaaaay down. Have seen multiple call it a turn signal when it clearly is not.
The design language kind of reminds me of the Cadillac MK or whatever thst csr is called. It has that light bar in the back and similar front end.
Looks better than previous models. Sedan are out due to flooding streets, which seems to be the norm now. I need more ground clearance.
I'm guessing 15lbs so far. Very nice. And the review was darn good too.
This looks more interesting than the new Camry, but I'm not impressed with Hyundai's disposable powertrains and inconsistent warranty coverage. I would reluctantly choose Camry over Sonata.
I love it. Already put in my order for a white/white Limited. I have the 2020 Limited now. I will say, however, I HATE the touch screen. It may LOOK good but it’s not practical. Scratches easy and putting on sanitizer and lotion all the time in NE it will be covered with fingerprints constantly so I’ll have to keep wipes with me bc can’t STAND fingerprints anywhere. But I do like the new model. Thanks for the review…🚗💨💨
Thanks for sharing your experience! It seems like it's been positive enough if you've got a new one on order and that says a lot about a vehicle. -Travis
This is beautiful. Much needed refresh. I liked it previously but this is nice. The new Camry is nice but this is prettier.
There are a lot of folks who like the design direction Hyundai has been going the last few years, count me as one of them. -Travis
Automatic folding mirrors?
Does it have a full spare?
Lost my Ioniq5 to an accident, seeing this is making me want another car, because the only downside to the I5 was it was electric only. I'm still waiting to see the new Landcruiser, the Santa Fe, and the Traverse in person.
I think the front end design looks better on its own but the previous design had better flow with the side profile, same for the rear design.
I would take this Sonata over the Camry because of the traditional stepped automatic. This is a very nice refresh.
The *LED TAILLIGHTS* are phenomenal 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I dont like camry front grill ( lower grill ) . This looks very sleak and straightforward.
2.5L @194BHP in Saudi for the highest trim (no AWD available nor hybrid) which is weird. Why is ours below 200hp?
Front is awesome but back looks like they're trying to hard making it look futuristic
Love how one of the incandescent license lamps are already burned out.
Looks alone puts this over the Camry
Why do the wheel spokes face different directions depending on the side of the car?
I think that’s always how directional designs are, else you’d need two different wheels.
No AWD on N Line is silly, 300+lb ft through the front w/an open diff is comedy.
Alex you are looking good. Did you lose 25 lbs? I like the new Camry.
At least 30 lbs
Overall a big fan of this refresh, but that pixel-style rear taillight treatment is not going to age well.
While my 2015 Avalon is still going strong, my next purchase will likely be a hybrid sedan. I'm intrigued by this Sonata, the Camry, and the Accord. If I'm honest, I'm leaning toward the Accord, but all 3 appeal to my stylistically. They all look good to my eye, though the Sonata's tail light situation might need a little time to grow on me!
Have you considered the Avalon's replacement, the Toyota Crown (or newly announced Crown Signia)? -Travis
@@AAutoBuyersGuide Thanks for the response, Travis! I have! I'm more intrigued by the Signia over the Crown sedan. The Cown sedan's styling and pricing are a bit jarring for me. The Crown starts just above where I can get a Hybrid Touring Accord.
Methinks the world has run out of attractive car paint.
kinda totally gave up on toyota brand. price is going up insane with so many additional obviously greedy addon prices and other new makeup terms costs. This new vid helps alot for seeking other brands.
I think this is a nice refresh but I was really surprised by how well I liked the Camry and the hybrid only option is actually a big plus for me, I like that you can get AWD and 232hp on the Camry with a hybrid system, a combination that no other midsize sedan offers at the moment. I also prefer how the Camry looks but the Sonata is a close second for sure. If I was getting a gas version of any midsize sedan the Sonata N-line is the only way to go in my opinion.
Like the body more than the Camry but Camry has extra 30hp which is not trivial when considering hybrid model.
But this will be faster than the Camry cuz it have turbo
The Sonata front is becoming like the Grandeur.
Despite hating having to take the CVT w/ the Camry I would most likely choose the Camry over the Sonata for its better looks, higher quality feel and better reliability.
It looks way better than that older 'catfish' styling but I'd pick the Camry over the Sonata.
Looking at new Sonata, I think the entire interior and exterior design team of Camry should be fired.
The panoramic sunroof give less head room
Can you also confirm if 2024 Sonata is gonna be last gen for Sonata series? I think I heard from my Korea friend saying that as rumor.
It wouldn’t surprise me. Every year there are less new sedan models since SUVs and crossovers are more popular.
@@Sashazur really? SUV and crossover are way more expensive tho
This new Sonata is the last gen for sure. Camry and Accord likewise. Car buyers don't buy sedans anymore.
I was really hoping for N-Line with AWD. What a bummer!
Is the solar roof still an option on the hybrid?
I do not think it is even for 2023.
Solar roof doesnt even work properly on my 2022 and the shop cant figure out the issues
I just bought a new Camry. My old Sonada has a destroyed engine. It will get scraped. It was always broke. It left me stranded out of town twice. It has left me stranded in town many times and had to have it towed. It was pretty though.
glad they finally got rid of the 1.6L turbo
Alex, I don't think you are being very fair....... to fish. 😉🤣😂
Like this design ba the ioniq 6 design
Looks neat but I like the old design better.
Front fascia is very similar to a lot of the new Buicks, save for the light bar
Nah the new Buicks are hideous, this looks good.
I wish they would make a plug-in hybrid Sonata
Bot
Thank GOD it's a traditional transmission in the Hybrid.
Quite a good looking car too.....
What color is that
Transmission Blue
I had been driving Sonata almost 7 yrs and I’m not satisfied honestly saying. Hyundai needs to be more involved with their vehicle’s performance than design. Now I’m ended up with Honda Civic 2024. And I saw the huge difference in performance.
POWER TRUNK???? Freaking game changer in this segment. It’s the little things !!! Good job Hyundai ! That really shocked me
I actually liked the catfish look 😅
It's great but they took away their most robust engine, the 1.6t, and left us with the NA 2.5 as the base engine. I'll have to go with the K5.
Dude when and how did you lose all the weight? Good for you
Ate less calories than his body needs for maintenance. Not hard, Takes self control.
It looks better than the Camry hybrid but will it outlast it. I highly doubt it 😂
Those wheels on the limited look low rent. The ones on the Korean reveal look far sportier.
I love it
Needs to be priced well below the Camry to sell. Interior is a mishmash. Not a big fan.
looks like a Lucid
Camry for the hybrid model because it's more reliable. I dislike the front end on both the Camry and Sonata. Wish they would tone them down.
This Sonata looks a lot nicer than the camry, looks alone this wins. Just hope that hybrid model gets awd, and keeping my fingers crossed for reliability, I do like what the Korean brands have been putting out in the last 5 years. Dreaming for a Stinger EV!
Why do people think they need AWD if you live in the south where you get very little snow,it’s just a waste of money
It's a comfort and security things and people will do a lot to get those feelings. -Travis
Interesting…😊
192 Hp? Why?
This looks good but doesn’t look distinct among the rivals. The 20-23 front end looks great especially in the limited trim. I wasn’t expecting to get so many compliments on my sonata when I purchased it.
We want the Grandeur in the USA.
the gear shift is so bad the rest is so nice
How long till the engine catches on fire?
I was interested in buying a 2023 version, but all the recalls, theft, and insurance companies not covering Hyundai pushed me away....
So that means nobody should buy Toyota, cuz they have more recalls than Hyundai
The theft was to specific models with out a key fob. That is ancient history for new cars. Recalls are below average and dependability is above average. Just check out JD Power.
You lost me at JD Power
The theft issue was not unique to Hyundai/Kia. Older models of all makes without an engine immobilizers were pretty easy to steal. All recent years are much harder, and it's possible to get older cars updated (we just did).
