Found this video while doing research for a novel I'm writing where the protagonist is a lifeguard. I just needed a refresher on the basic swimming strokes and this was perfect! Thank you.

They taught us this in lifeguard redcross, never got to work as a lifeguard. But did help a buddy out swimming in the glacial lake, he was struggling and we were out far. I wouldn’t like to think what would’ve happened if I didn’t know this technique

I’m here because when i was in Hawaii I almost drowned trying to save my cousin literally almost died I tried to swim away and get help then I realized if she went further the right in the water the current wasn’t as strong so I told to try her best to get to the right side she did then she was able to swim back.
    The conversation after
Her: you would’ve let me drown in current you so selfish
Me: uhhh when I went of there you were pulling me under you for a float (mind you there were fucking sea urchins all of the floor I stg i am not making this up) and I left because I didn’t want to die
Her: you still left me ur selfish
Me: so you would rather have me die saving you or both of us die because you were drowning you should like the selfish one

So I have been practicing the css. I hurt my shoulder after 30 min...When I pull is my arm bent or straight? I'm thinking I'm not using enough lats. thanks

Which arm? Top or bottom? Top is the “Freestyle catch” and bottom arm is slightly bent like a “breaststroke scull”. Search those terms

@@StewSmith182 Bottom. I see. I was trying to do a freestyle catch at the bottom...I deserve to be injured lol. Thank you sir. I'm 35 with kids now had a nightmare they drowned and I couldn't do anything so that's why I'm here. Cant thank you enough for this info.

Nice one... a combination of breaststroke kick and a scissors kick... how i wish my students can perform these also despite of pandemic issues... it is an application ... a modification of different styles/techniques of skills..

Howdy Stew, would it be more beneficial to swim laps without pushing off the wall? Instead using a side stroke to gain momentum for the glide phase of the CSS and just transitioning into it?

Maxwell Havins - Well to take this test in the Navy you can kick off the wall so why not train the way you are going to be tested? Learning how to build momentum in a pool is different than in the ocean so I see where your mind is as you do not have walls to kick off during ocean swims.

Hey stew smith can you give me a detailed video where can i effectively learn CSS & how to increase my endurance for the PST for BUD/S. I'm unsure how much distance I should train for to be fit comfortably

You need to look on my channel - especially the most downloaded videos. They are already there: th-cam.com/users/stew50smith

You need to build up to 1500-2000m without fins and 4000-5000m with fins

Why are you not doing bilateral breathing?

    • @StewSmith182
      @StewSmith182  4 ปีที่แล้ว

on the little bit of freestyle we do - just preference. This is a skill drill for life saving and CSS - freestyle is just a recovery stroke each set. In longer swims we would breathe both sides - but once again preference. We do not need to swim freestyle is spec ops swim tests (*SEAL specifically).

You knock him out before he drowns you too. Lol just kidding, find and take a flotation device with you unless they are already passed out, or a child.
