    This is great Jason - thanks, and the consolidated links are very helpful. Depending on which DAW you use to generate the output file, it can be tricky to get it 48kHz 24bit mono wav, the exact same length as the training file. But this is key to being able to generate a model file.

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep. Some DAWs have a "tail" built into them which always adds extra samples. Its best to drop both files into a basic audio editor like Audacity to check both of them before uploading to Collabs.

    Great video, Jason! I have a question about applications for this. When grabbing a capture of the initial .wav file through an amp/amp sim, that cooks in the amp settings, right? I'm thinking about how practical it would be to rent some physical amp heads to run through this and start building a catalog. However, this would be pretty limiting since I'd only be capturing each amp at the specific settings I used during the initial capture, right?

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thats exactly right. This is a "snapshot" of the amp at those settings. I wouldnt go crazy renting amps just yet. The software is being developed. Have fun with it for now and kinda get your feet wet.
      I used an amp sim as an easy example. I plan on using a combination of plugins and hardware to make an amp tone that is fully produced and polished (minus the IR of course). Thats my next thing to try.
      You should join the Facebook group! Lots of discussion as well as contributions to the project (people sharing their captures, people helping develop the system, etc). This is fairly true of profiling as a whole - it's why you'll often see multiple captures of the same amp just with different settings. Kempers etc all have tone controls, but they're more like applying EQ curves than turning tone controls on real amps.

    About normalizing of wav of DI. I think you need to stay with original audio volume or you will need to boost your guitar signal when play through resulted NAM model.

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว

      When we normalize the Output.wav (the recording of the distorted guitar) we are not changing the gain staging of the input signal (the DI track). We are only telling NAM to make the output of the amp model louder. You can experiment with this to see what happens. I also believe that newer versions of this system (there have been several updates since this video) will auto-normalize the output.wav already to help standardize the loudness of each amp model you load.

    • @АндрейПолевой-я5и
      @АндрейПолевой-я5и ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@АндрейПолевой-я5и I havent normalized the input.wav in this video. The best practice would be to play your guitar straight into the amplifier to see how that sounds, then adjust the gain of the input.wav until it sounds like it makes the same kind of sound as your gutiar. In this video, I just left my DI signal the gain level I normally use it and I left Input.wav the way that it came to me and it worked out fine. The only normalizing I did was with the processed signal.

    Question about epochs and google collab. Is there a rough estimate on the max you can do for a capture before it times out? I'd look on the fb group but I ditched fb like five years ago so am kinda the outsider here haha.
    It seems like most people do 250 to 500, but I've seen some crazy 1000+ epoch captures, wondering when it starts to become diminishing returns etc. I'll probably just try 100 as a starter and go from there.
    Thanks for all the great vids on this stuff!

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think people have settled on 300 as the optimal choice for quality and wasting time. Collabs is weird and picky about how long something can run but you just create a new email address or use a different web browser and you basically continue with that one until the other one isnt timed out anymore.

    What are the important signal levels or where is a good setting to start when recording the file? Adjust amp gain, amp volume, or signal from v1 file? My first try with mesa mark v amp was .000 but the tone was clean and should have a heavy gain sound from ch2. Thanks for all your videos, great job.

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would set up my hardware loop (audio interface output > Reamp box > amplifier > load box > audio interface input) and then play guitar through that system and listen to the amplifier through your DAW to see how it sounds. Then look at how loud your guitar signal is compared to the v1 file. I would adjust your guitar signal so it is similar in volume to the v1 file. Maybe record a loop of yourself playing some gutiar chords and look at that recorded audio and compare it to the v1 file. They should be relatively the same volume. This way, when you play the V1 file through your amplifier, what you are recording back into your DAW is basically going to sound just as distorted as the gutiar chords loop you were playing through that signal chain a moment ago. That should give you a good Output.wav and a good NAM model.

  • @JeffreyRutland
    @JeffreyRutland ปีที่แล้ว

    insane. the possibilities!
    I have a question, and I know you just did an example ‘in the box’ in your video here. but, what is required for a real amp to be sampled? I have a Trainwreck Express amp that I would love to try this with. I have a Hot Plate that has a line out. I also have a Focusrite Scarlett. I keep seeing ‘remap box’ and that the signal feed into the amp needs to be instrument (not line) level, which makes sense. is that what a reamp box will achieve? is there no way to simulate that with a simple audio interface?
    thanks for the video. just found out about this, and it’s super exciting to see!

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว

      A reamp box is meant to turn a line level signal (~500 to 1500 ohms) to a guitar hi-z level (~50k to 100k ohms) which gives the input of your amplifier the kind of signal it is expecting. This gives you a much more "natural" capture as the v1_1_1.wav training file is being performed through your amplifier in its "intended" impedance and level, so long as you set the level correctly. If you dont have a reamp box, the cheaper way to achieve this is to use a DI box in reverse. Or you could try using a tuner pedal that has a buffered input. Usually those will output a signal with a higher resistance than just a regular line level output from your Scarlett.
      Not sure what a Hot Plate is but I assume that its line level output would suffice for bringing the signal back into your DAW. The only thing to look out for is to make sure that your amplifier has a "load" on it (the speakers are connected and absorbing all of that energy coming from the amp or your Hot Plate is capable of doing the same thing).

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct. there are technical elements to the trainer file that allow for precise quantization and alignment. there are also loud and quiet sounds which help train the model to understand the full volume spectrum. you can replace some of the middle portion of the file with your own DI tracks.

      As far as the signal, I think its definitely a good idea to use a reamp box. But really, whatever sound you get out of your amps with a regular line in should be reflected in the model so if you can get a good tone out of your amp with a line level signal, go for it!

      Likely you are sending too weak of a signal into the amplifier.
      I would record some regular gutiar DIs of you strumming some chords and loop those. I would play those through whatever setup you are normally playing the NAM training file through (the output of your audio interface > your reamp box > the input of your amplifier > your load box > the input of your audio interface) and I would listen to how those looped chords sound coming back into your DAW. If the gain is too low, turn up the output on your reamp box.
      As long as your DI track is the same volume that your guitar is normally when you plug your gutiar straight into your audio interface, the gain level you hear coming through that signal chain should be equivalent to how the model will end up sounding.

      The frozen/flattened reamp signal can be up to 1 second "out of sync" with the training file. Dont worry about lining them up because the system will do that on its own automatically. You dont have to manually re-align anything.
      The part you have to worry about is getting the length of both audio clips the EXACT same size. Its likely that is what is causing an error.

      I get an error one the final step of the training " No response activated the trigger in response to blip 1. Is something wrong with the reamp? ".

      I used a VST for simplicity in the video but I have done this same process with other real hardware and it is just as accurate. Its incredibly accurate, so long as you do a good job with your gain-staging and setup.

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to go to this page and scroll down to the area that says "assets" then you download either the Win.zip or the Mac.dmg depending on your operating system. Then you run the installer. Then you scan for new VST3's in Ableton. Then you look for the folder in the VST3 plugins called "Steve Atkinson" and it should be there. If it isnt, you may need to do a full re-scan on Ableton. For Windows, you hold down ALT and hit the "rescan" button (not sure how to do that on Mac).

      This is an open source system so its not as "professional" as the stuff you buy. Since its free and since its built by people in their spare time, its not going to be as easy and accessible as a paid product, unfortunately. With some digging, its not hard to find stuff, though!
