Freddie Mercury is one who proves that charisma trumps looks, and talent trumps production. Towards the end he was thin, easily tired and wore pale, loose clothes to hide how ill he was, and still gave amazing performances, even though it took days to record a song as he was in almost constant pain.
It’s a synthesiser that makes the sound. There was a documentary done where the man who played it was saying that he was the only non member of the band on the album. In the documentary about the Tribute Concert Robert Plant says that a lot of the keys were changed in the songs as the other artists singing them couldn’t reach the same range as Freddie.
Freddie was the consummate showman. He would do whatever to provide the best show. I was fortunate enough to see them before he passed and he is iconic in voice and performance
Lovely Reaction as always. The song is really about breaking free from anything you are struggling with, not just stereotypes or marrige, it can be anything. Fun fact, the song and the lyrics where made by John Deacon, the bass player, who was a happy married man and had two sons at the moment; but everyone always think this is a song by Freddie about is sexuality. Please do more Queen, do the least know song Innuendo, The invisible man, The miracle or A kind of magic.
The song seems to be about a bad relationship that you want to leave, then transitions into "I've fallen in love... this time I know it's for real." Great respect for Deacon saying no ( aside from some recording work to finish an album ) to continuing after Freddie passed. Adam Lambert is a decent singer but it just isn't the same.

Freddie Mercury was a showman and he often went without a shirt and in some live performances just sang in his boxer shorts 😂. Queen we’re actually taking the Mickey out of a long running British soap called Coronation Street, but not many people realised and didn’t go down well in America because they didn’t understand the pun !
We have to remember that for this specific video a keyboard was used with no synthesizers for the trumpet sound in the middle of the video ... And yes !!! Freddie used to appear in certain videos with little clothing and even in concerts , Queen was always characterized as a band that went beyond music , fashion and stereotypes .
Yesssss 🔥 loved this!!! Queen were so ahead of their time and I love the fact they didn’t care how or what, even dressed as ladies, they were amazing. And shirtless Freddie was pretty common, he had the body for it! Hope to see more Queen, I suggest Love of my life live at Wembley or Save me live at Montreal. Much bless dear!!
From the very early days, Freddie performed in very brightly coloured outfits, either with chest on show, or without a top. For The Works album, they drew heavily on Fritz Lang's Metropolis film from 1927 for the video visuals.
"normal" it doesn't matter its Freddie his fans don't care he can basically do what the hell he likes. :D Have you seen him in his short short short tight shorts yet.. in Another one Bites the Dust live at Montreal. :D
Another great reaction to an icon. My favorite is The Show Must Go On. It astounds me to this day listening to his vocals and knowing how sick he was when he recorded them.
I think I was 11 or 12 when The show must go on was played regularly on the radio here. And already back then it made me emotional hearing it. And it still does to this day, now even more so. I second your suggestion.
Freddie was a funny guy with a great sense of humor, but the idea of getting into drag came from Roger's girlfriend. Freddie really didn't need to hide his body. 😁
Just caught this one and Bohemian Rhapsody. SO MUCH ahead of you. With BH, do the original (the first credited music video), do the GreenDay concert audience singing BH in 2017 … and don’t forget the Muppet version 😁
WOW! You are quite simply THE most adorable reacter. You are so expressive, eloquent and you actually have things to say that are worth hearing. Keep making videos Biscute - will watch them all. Go girl!!!!!!
Too many reactors get hung up on the video. Most don't realise or know that the video is, was and always intended to be a joke and has nothing to do with the meaning of "I Want to Break Free". The writer of the song, John Deacon, has actually said that the song was about his wanting to break free from the grind of touring and spend more time with his family.

The Video was based on British Soap Opera Coronation Street and the song was about the Woman's Liberation movement some people say it is about Freddie's Sexuality but this is not true. Base player John Deacon wrote the song and Drummer Roger Taylor's Girlfriend suggested doing it in drag, Roger makes a damn beautiful girl and had many male question their sexuality at the time lol
The clip is based on a very long running TV show from Manchester UK called Coronation Street, so they are all characters from that including pink lipstick from the 60's. I think Freddie wanted to basically 'come out' as it were. Love your reactions, no falseness, just genuine reaction. Love from Melbourne Australia.
The video was a parody and tongue in cheek homage to a long-running British soap opera called Coronation Street. The video was released in 1984. Freddie decided to keep the moustache at the last moment, Roger Taylor (school girl) and the two 'grannies were Brian May and John 'deeky' Deacon. That riff was from Brian May.
Everyone seemed to think that the either the song or the video was Freddie's idea but to be honest he wasn't really responsible for either. Song was written by John Deacon, Video was Roger Taylor's idea to dress up in drag. MTV actually BANNED the video.
one of their funniest videos! and don't care that you didn't know it was their song. with great songs it's like this: they sound decades after a decade, people gradually forget the performers, and the young people haven't even heard them ... The songs are important.
Freddie likes wearing or not wearing all kinds of things. So many iconic stage or video costumes, some crazier than others. He had so much fun with it. You really need to go from the beginning to the end fashion-wise. It's a great ride.
1) You are SO LUCKY to have seen Freddie live with Queen! 2) Basically, didn't Fred always "undress" during the shows because he always worked up such a sweat? That's what it seems like, anyway. ;D
This song is basically about breaking free of the stereotypes of the world. Freddie being a bisexual/gay man there was a lot of these gentle stabs at stereotypes. People should be free to be who they are and yearn to be.
It was not at all about Freddie’s sexuality - John Deacon wrote it, and the dressing in drag for the video was the idea of Roger Taylor and his then-girlfriend.
@@imweakfordeaky I am perfectly aware that this nor many of their songs are about Freddie being "gay", but I view it as a starting place for a lot of these songs that are about breaking stereotypes... There are quite a few of them. They did do their music by community and everyone wrote and came up with ideas and they went with the music and what was their best new ideas. Them putting on drag here is just brilliant... Love it. They were a head of the game on many things and had Freddie's unique voice to carry the message. Also Brian May on the guitar is and was quite a revelation. He is just one man pulling that off. It is a lot of the time a wonder that they pulled off their songs with just 4 guys. The songs sound so much bigger than that, but it is just 4 guys... It is a wonder how they pulled it all off. The fact that they all saw the struggles Freddie went through is visible in their music and in the writing. The band desperately needed and rooted for Freddie to find his place and breakthrough the stigmas of being a gay man. And I believe he was a large part of today's wide acceptance of none straight people, it is just sad he did not live to see this future...
More nonsense from people that know nothing about Queen and assume every song is about (1) about an autobiographical event in the songwriters life; and / or (2) Freddie's sexuality. What's Bohemian Rhapsody about? Freddie gay! What's Somebody to Love about? Freddie gay! I Want to Break Free? Freddie gay of course! JK Rowling was able to write about wizards without actually having been one herself. The fact is that most Queen songs are not about a specific autobiographical event or sentiment that the songwriter experienced, though of course they draw upon their life experiences in composing the song. Freddie was very adamant that he did not intend his ongs to have one specific meaning, and where his songs are more rooted in specific events or emotional states, they are written in a different style
@@GilesMcRiker they all wrote brilliant songs why does everyone have to know the meaning. Just enjoy pure magical talent from 4 amazing men and 1 band. Queen 🔥
The sound is a synthesizer and it’s coronation street the videos based upon and Freddie like to have his chest out most of time till later in life and it’s a classic Queen song by us British ✌️
There are many Queen, songs that people never realize are Queen songs. React to We Will Rock You, We are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust, I Want it All, just for a few of them. You'll be amazed how many you've heard. Queen rules!!
Some clarifications: 1. The song it's about Freddie Mercury declaring to the world that he was gay and that he have a new boyfriend/husband, and that Queen are going to take on the world. Yes it's about get rid of stereotypes. The good thing about it it was that his boyfriend stay with him from 1985 until his death in 1991. 2. The sound in the middle part is a keyboard, I think a Moog or a Prophet. Both Freddie and Brian May played piano and keyboards on Queen albums. 3. Freddie used to play live shirtless. In the 70's the whole band use to used costumes and make up live, so they decided in the 80's to be more simplistic live on stage. 4. In the 70's Queen were more Hard Rock, a little bit Progressive, then in the 80's they become more softer and electronic in some cases, very influenced by musical styles like New Wave, Synth Pop and Pop Rock.
This isn't the full video, as a portion of the ballet is missing...but still an iconic video that was banned in the US (conservative homosexual panic attack), contributing to Queen deciding to not tour here again. Our loss...but in the ensuing years, Queen achieved greater popularity.
Freddie was running his own vintage fashion market stall when he met and joined Brian and the others, he was a true entrepreneur and pioneer in all he done, trying out and introducing new things being music gender and all that he touched, a true professional icon and front man a one off who i don't think will ever be bettered be bettered his true love i believe was opera and fulfilled his need for that in his collaboration with the Spanish opera singer Montserrat cabelle when the world famous anthem Barcelona was sung between them for the Barcelona Olympic games, view that i promise you it will make you hairs stand out
That instrument a synthesizer if you saw it in stage it would looke a keyboard. As far as the song Freddie was gay but never came out until a couple of weeks before he tragically died od aids. He had a long time girl friend who was with him till he died and a male partner. But in the eighties Freddy was a bit of a naughty boy in Hamburg and caught aids which finally killed him . I was fortunate to see Queen alone with many of the seventies and eighties bands you have on your channel and yes even Led Zep. . I do believe the music from that time was amazing . I cant explain the rush you had during and after every concert a feeling you just cant explain. . I must admit seeing those old videos brings back memories
I've seen them twice, in 1980 & 1982, by the end of the concert he was shirtless and in short shorts. That sound is Dr. Brian May's "Red Special" home made guitar. Watch any of the videos from "Live in Montreal 1981". That was the tour I saw them on 1980.
Solo is a Mini Moog Synthesizer played by Fred Mandel. The pitch wheel was used to imitate the string bending of a guitar. It would be possible to get similar sounds at the time with a guitar but apparently the bass player who wrote the song did not want any guitars on the song he wrote .
Queen has so many different sounds and songs, it’s easy to not know it’s them. Before I got into queen, I didn’t know they did we will rock you and another one bites the dust. I eventually came to realize all these great songs were by one of the greatest bands ever, Queen.
A couple of Queen songs to have a listen to",Save me"released in 1980 and the fantastic album track "it's late" from the album "news of the world".xx.enjoy.
I saw him three times. If you wanted to get pictures of him in a shirt one better hurry which I did. After finding a backstage pass in Dallas, I got some killer pics.
Have always loved this video, it kind of reminds me of a Monty Python's Flying Circus sketch I always thought it was about how Freddie felt about coming out and the British attitude to it in the 70's and 80's Have a look at Bronski Beat and Jimmy Summerville (great voice and emotive songs)
Wikipedia seems to state that it's both : "A stacked guitar accompaniment (Red Special) appears at the end of the second verse (1 03), and between 1 15 and 1 17 it is replaced by a synthesizer. A synthesizer(Jupiter 8) solo starts at 1 33 and is assisted by a guitar. " So everybody wins :-)
The idea of the video belonged to Roger Taylor (drummer): he suggested in the clip to parody "Corrie" - an unprecedented long "soap" series "Coronation Street". The series was launched in December 1960 and may even still be running. Naturally, several generations of both actors and characters have changed during this time. The series told the stories of the families of the workers of the weaving factory of the town of Weatherfield. What is remarkable in the ratio of the clip and the series is that the men of Weatherfield are firmly under the heels of their wives. The musicians chose their own image - and it turned out to be a great parody of the local ladies. Interestingly, the series still could not restrain itself and, in turn, parodied "Queen". However, he did it late. Unforgivably late - in 2012.
Hello Miss just came across your channel and this reaction to one of my favourite Queen videos. Am 43 now but when I was a kid and growing up didn't know for a long time the schoolgirl was Roger Taylor or as someone called him online Rogerina. I actually thought that was actually a young woman in the video. Then I found out it was Roger and have to admit after I found out and even now still think Roger looked quite sexy.
Hello Bisscute, what a Joy watsvhing your reactions. I have so much fun. To Freddy Mercury: His big theme in those years was the homosexuality and the reactions in society. He was a Rebell against homophobia and society began to accept that kind of human being. That was in the 1970s,1980s and 1990s.
You are very cute when you talk about (at like about 10:00) not quite understanding something about the song. That is part of the appeal of these classics! You get hooked by a chorus or a guitar solo or the drummer or the keyboardist. Then, almost every time you hear it, you "discover" something new. And, you can listen to it with a friend and hear their different perspective about what they like about the song. So don't think it is a negative thing when one of these classics causes you some confusion or wanting to think about it some more.
They have so many hits. People will suggest many.. I want you to hear Freddie do cute fun stuff... Millionaire Waltz. Seaside Rendezvous. Lover Boy. Lazing Sunday Aft.
I love your reaction just that you know is nothing about freddie's sensuality this song was written by going deacon the bass guitar player and it was about woman liberation not every thing goes to that subject freddie is one and only legend 💙 ❤ 👏
The video was a parody of the characters of the british TV soap opera "Coronation Street" that's why the were dressed in that way, many didn't get this connection and in America the video was banned on MTV at the time of release. As another Queen song I may suggest you "A Kind of Magic".
Also, Queen had a hit in the early 80’s that I love but I never hear it or mentioned now. I’m s called “Body Misic”. You might want to look for it bc it doesn’t usually show up as one of the classic Queen hits and you have to find on TH-cam.
From memory, I think queen were the first band to come up with the idea of making music videos, and so that's what they did. Brian May the guitarist was a great vocalist to.
BISSCUTE, I'M ADORING YOUR QUEEN/FREDDIE MERCURY REACTIONS! SUGGESTIONS: QUEEN'S FULL LIVE-AID SET th-cam.com/video/SM9ZG_MtFyk/w-d-xo.html (NOTE: This link is to an EXTENDED/FULL VERSION, which INCLUDES THE ENCORE done by Freddie/Brian May for the event's evening closing.) "THE GREAT PRETENDER" (This is from Freddie's solo album. In the MV, he also dresses up as a woman and re-creates scenes from many earlier Queen MVs.) "COOL CAT" This is audio only; Freddie sings the whole song in FALSETTO; a TOTALLY DIFFERENT sounding voice.) "BARCELONA" (The title track from Freddie's album of OPERA W soprano MONTSERRAT CABALLE.)
As showman , Freddy has the skill to improvise and get the audience in his pocket and yes he did not bother for shirt in videos or live no one would complain that's was his style the sond you mention can be done by guitar or keyboard with distortion effects .
You want to take a look at Queen at the live aid concert in 1985, see the crowd react with Freddy will give you goosebumps, it is just a magical time in history that will never be repeated.
4:35 It was normal for Freddie to do whatever Freddie wanted to do. Dressed, half naked, strutting the stage in leather knickers. Whatever. 6:46 No it's a synth (synthesizer...keyboard), sounds like a Moog or something similar. After searching... Mini Moog played by guest musician Fred Mandel
TRY HIS VOCAL QUALITY ON SAY ‘BARCELONA’ I honestly believe he’d have done loads more operatic stuff with other top opera stars (like Monserrat Caballe/Pavarotti) IF he’d lived longer…..BUT, as Freddie sung, “WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER” !
Freddie Mercury saw himself as a performer and not just a singer or vocalist and so it often meant that he did a lot of moving around either in the video or on stage and as you can imagine he got quite warm and so preferred to be bare chested rather than a sweat-stained shirt or whatever. But obviously as the AIDS illness took it's hold on him he began to cover up a lot more. He was a very private person deep down.
The trumpet/guitar sound you are asking about was played on keyboard for the studio recording but replicated by Dr. Brian May on his guitar for concert performances.
Thank you for watching the video, It means a lot to me .

I think it’s hysterical that Brian is in hair curlers…
Freddie is an artist much remembered for his independent styles. No top cloth is normal for him. Love you ❤️😙❤️ B.
I see ❤
"normal" it doesn't matter its Freddie his fans don't care he can basically do what the hell he likes. :D
Have you seen him in his short short short tight shorts yet.. in Another one Bites the Dust live at Montreal.
legend Music in the World
Just caught this one and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Nice, good young lady 👍💫💢
Good job 💥🤞🌿
Song was written by John Deacon,
Video was Roger Taylor's idea to dress up in drag.
MTV actually BANNED the video.
Know what? I’m falling in love with your reactions!!! Keep it doin’ BissCute!!! 🌹
one of their funniest videos! and don't care that you didn't know it was their song. with great songs it's like this: they sound decades after a decade, people gradually forget the performers, and the young people haven't even heard them ... The songs are important.
Freddie likes wearing or not wearing all kinds of things. So many iconic stage or video costumes, some crazier than others. He had so much fun with it. You really need to go from the beginning to the end fashion-wise. It's a great ride.
I saw Queen 4 Times at each concert Freddie took his top off
1) You are SO LUCKY to have seen Freddie live with Queen!
2) Basically, didn't Fred always "undress" during the shows because he always worked up such a sweat? That's what it seems like, anyway. ;D
*_"I didn't know it was a Queen song."_* I wish I had a dime for every time I have heard that from a young person.😄
Love your accent, love your eye make-up, love your review. So I've subscribed for more watching you break free from under your rock!
He would have on or off whatever he felt to. He led the band and he is the best singer of our time
The funniest thing is that Freddie didn’t wanna wear the costume because he was worried about what other people thoughts but the band forced him😂
This song is basically about breaking free of the stereotypes of the world. Freddie being a bisexual/gay man there was a lot of these gentle stabs at stereotypes. People should be free to be who they are and yearn to be.
nothing to do with the gay people.
Queen 🔥
Great Reaction To One Of My All Time Favorite Song's Sweetheart
I stayed at my grandads every weekend when I was little. He played this song every Saturday while he did his housework 💙
The sound is a synthesizer and it’s coronation street the videos based upon and Freddie like to have his chest out most of time till later in life and it’s a classic Queen song by us British ✌️
To really see Freddie performing half naked you need to watch Another One Bites the Dust, or We will Rock you/We are the Champions live in Montreal.
There are many Queen, songs that people never realize are Queen songs. React to We Will Rock You, We are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust, I Want it All, just for a few of them. You'll be amazed how many you've heard. Queen rules!!
Some clarifications:
It wasn't actually banned. That was a myth. The video that was actually banned was Body Language from Hot Space two years prior.
Freddie was running his own vintage fashion market stall when he met and joined Brian and the others, he was a true entrepreneur and pioneer in all he done, trying out and introducing new things being music gender and all that he touched, a true professional icon and front man a one off who i don't think will ever be bettered be bettered his true love i believe was opera and fulfilled his need for that in his collaboration with the Spanish opera singer Montserrat cabelle when the world famous anthem Barcelona was sung between them for the Barcelona Olympic games, view that i promise you it will make you hairs stand out
This was brilliant superior! Krip! :)
Solo in this song is played on synthesizer by Canadian musician Fred Mandel
@@eroy66 During a live show Brian plays it.
Floor Jansen was asked "If you could sing a duo with any one, who would you choose?" Without hesitation, she answered "Freddy Mercury".
"Is it normal for Freddie to not have a shirt on?" lmao oh my sweet summer child.
Solo is a Mini Moog Synthesizer played by Fred Mandel. The pitch wheel was used to imitate the string bending of a guitar. It would be possible to get similar sounds at the time with a guitar but apparently the bass player who wrote the song did not want any guitars on the song he wrote .
I believe that's an 80's synthesizer/keyboard. We got pretty funny in the 80's. 😁😍
Queen has so many different sounds and songs, it’s easy to not know it’s them. Before I got into queen, I didn’t know they did we will rock you and another one bites the dust. I eventually came to realize all these great songs were by one of the greatest bands ever, Queen.
The solo sound comes from a synthethizer, it’s also done with Brian mays guitar when in concert
A couple of Queen songs to have a listen to",Save me"released in 1980 and the fantastic album track "it's late" from the album "news of the world".xx.enjoy.
Noted ty ❤️
I saw him three times. If you wanted to get pictures of him in a shirt one better hurry which I did. After finding a backstage pass in Dallas, I got some killer pics.
Have always loved this video, it kind of reminds me of a Monty Python's Flying Circus sketch
I always thought it was about how Freddie felt about coming out and the British attitude to it in the 70's and 80's
Have a look at Bronski Beat and Jimmy Summerville (great voice and emotive songs)
tat was a legit GuiTar Solo...using all the crazy effects n stuff 🔥
No, it is a synth played by somebody whose name I have forgotten!
So everybody wins :-)
@@kingstumble Played by Fred Mandel
@@philproffitt8363 Thanks!
Bisscute , Freddie can do what he want .haha
Freddie is a One Off....A must watch is Barcelona, Opera is all I'm saying
Most of the Queen titles were created in Munich Germany! Queen also had a house for the members of the band!
LIVING ON MY OWN!❤
My worthless soul needed this. Thanks!
Yes Freddie always goes without a shirt because he's so well built and he lies to show off!
Dressing as women was them having fun !
Freddie "bares" his soul with no shirt ...
Ok but this song was written by John Deacon and had nothing to do with Freddie
You are very cute when you talk about (at like about 10:00) not quite understanding something about the song. That is part of the appeal of these classics! You get hooked by a chorus or a guitar solo or the drummer or the keyboardist. Then, almost every time you hear it, you "discover" something new. And, you can listen to it with a friend and hear their different perspective about what they like about the song. So don't think it is a negative thing when one of these classics causes you some confusion or wanting to think about it some more.
That sound is the sound of a guitar. through the effect
They have so many hits. People will suggest many..
I want you to hear Freddie do cute fun stuff...
Millionaire Waltz. Seaside Rendezvous. Lover Boy. Lazing Sunday Aft.
Yes, it was not unusual for Freddie to be shirtless. He was a great showman and his outfits were a huge part of it.
When “Rogerina” is the cutest girl you’ve ever seen. 😏
i have dated women who didnt look as good as rogerino and it confused me for a time when i found out LOL
I see ❤️
Also, Queen had a hit in the early 80’s that I love but I never hear it or mentioned now. I’m s called “Body Misic”. You might want to look for it bc it doesn’t usually show up as one of the classic Queen hits and you have to find on TH-cam.
Ooops, it called “Body Language”.
From memory, I think queen were the first band to come up with the idea of making music videos, and so that's what they did. Brian May the guitarist was a great vocalist to.
Back then, MTV thought this video was disgraceful, and didn't show it, and banned it.
This was an homage to a well known british soap opera tv show
BISSCUTE,
I'M ADORING YOUR QUEEN/FREDDIE MERCURY REACTIONS!
SUGGESTIONS:
QUEEN'S FULL LIVE-AID SET
th-cam.com/video/SM9ZG_MtFyk/w-d-xo.html
(NOTE: This link is to an EXTENDED/FULL VERSION, which INCLUDES THE ENCORE done by Freddie/Brian May for the event's evening closing.)
"THE GREAT PRETENDER"
(This is from Freddie's solo album. In the MV, he also dresses up as a woman and re-creates scenes from many earlier Queen MVs.)
"COOL CAT"
This is audio only; Freddie sings the whole song in FALSETTO; a TOTALLY DIFFERENT sounding voice.)
"BARCELONA"
(The title track from Freddie's album of OPERA W soprano MONTSERRAT CABALLE.)
As showman , Freddy has the skill to improvise and get the audience in his pocket and yes he did not bother for shirt in videos or live no one would complain that's was his style the sond you mention can be done by guitar or keyboard with distortion effects .
I'm looking forward to when you react Metal songs like Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, and Bullet For My Valentine.
You want to take a look at Queen at the live aid concert in 1985, see the crowd react with Freddy will give you goosebumps, it is just a magical time in history that will never be repeated.
Its a parody of a soap opera called coronation Street
The trumpet you hear in the solo was played by Fred Mandel on Jupiter 8 synth.
That solo in the middle is actually an analog synth, played by Fred Mandel. Live Brian would play it on the guitar 😉
@ritch Only on the studio recording, not in the live performances.
This is how freddie was. He did things his way.
Farouk bulsara the best forever
