Is an open set up that important ? If the race field was all pros then i'd say yes, but if it's a mixture of all levels i'd say race craft is far more important. I recently watched a youtuber run a fixed set up in an open race and he came in 5th.

from a speed standpoint a custom setup is nice to have but you dont really need one to go fast.. but to go fast consistently over a full fuel run a setup is mandatory. the balance on the fixed setup is piss poor at best and it burns the right tire off too fast then the truck wont turn and starts scrubbing speed. also open setup allows you to fix problems the fixed setup has like the front splitter digging in to race track because the ride height is too low. fixed setups are set up very tight designed around newer drivers who havent mastered car control which is why it burns off the right front tire. open setup you can create a loose setup and the old saying goes.. loose is fast when your on the edge of control. besides open setup adds another skill to accel at.. building a good setup is an art.. those that can actually drive and have the skills to build a set (and not buy it from a setup shop) will have an advantage over some who can't all things being equal. another thing about open is you can adjust it to better fit your driving style and make the car more comfortable.. especially on a bumpy track like Rocking ham where the bumps create so much bump steer the car is nearly undrivable. with open you can adjust springs and shocks to reduce bump steer and make it so your steering wheel doesn't beat the hell out of you when you hit a bumpy part of the track.

Open setups allow the individual driver to be better. The reason the youtuber beat others in a fixed set is simply that he is faster than them, but if he was in an open setup tailored to him he may have won because the setup would have allowed him to be better/faster. So it's more of an individual thing if that makes sense. Note, I'm talking about setups tailored to an individual, not just an open setup in general. If you prefer a tight car and you get a setup that's loose, it's going to suck. So that's where it makes a difference. It won't let you beat that other guy necessarily, it lets you beat your time in a fixed setup or a setup that doesn't fit your driving style.

If you had passed him on the outside you wouldn't have gotten a black flag.

@@Chaddz3 100% agree he did you dirty and you should protest him. I just wasn't sure if you knew you could legally pass on the outside in that situation next time.
      Keep digging!
