Great video and awesome perspective of how big the bypass is - FYI the 26km Gympie bypass itself (Cooroy to Curra Section D) commenced construction in Oct 2020. It was the new motorway alignment between Sankeys Rd and Traveston Rd (Cooroy to Curra Section B) that commenced construction in 2009.
Great video! Being a Gympie local I recognised heaps of places that you flew over. Sure looks different looking down. Gympie is a great place to live. I've driven past the construction of one of the interchanges everyday for the past 4 years on my way to work. Watching the bridges being built was quite interesting. Its a massive project and I think they've done well to complete section D in a little over 4 years. I look forward to driving on it in the very near future.
I just did a trip south from Maryborough today, got home to Caboolture, popped on TH-cam and up this came - algorithms at work, but good result. Have done this trip scores of time and know every part you talked about. This was very cool. I have to say this bypass popped up in numbers of conversations today and everyone is excited, so thanks for the awesome overview, loved it. But 15 years? That's embarrassing.
2009 is when section A started, section A-C have been under traffic for years now. The "Gympie Bypass" is actually section D, the final part of the whole project.
Thank YOU! Great to have you on the channel. Had a fantastic flight to Gayndah for coffee today with friends, and a few interesting things happened along the way - I think I will make it next video.
Great clip, really enjoyed it from the air, been a roller mechanic on Cooroy to Curra for 10+yrs just recently retired, still remember when was 2 lanes from Eumundi I retired from it when the "furniture" guard rails & signage was still to be done, didnt involve in curra end as was a different contracter @ 16.01 is penny rd Hall rd roundabout
At timestamp 20:08, the red roof school you mention is Gympie State High School, and 40km/h speed restriction on the main road as students have a campus for Agricultural Studies across and up the road. Great to see the area from the air, as lapsed RPPL mainly due to finances. Thank you for what you do, looking forward to enjoying more of your travels. Fair tail winds with runway in front of you.
Around 2000ish there was a comic on page 3 of the Gympie times with the future opening of the bypass with various officials and a horse and cart were coming through and saying its great but shame we cant afford the fuel to use it! They were pretty bloody right on with their prediction! Awesome work Crayonbox!
15 years for 26 Kilometers... streuth! Better late than never i suppose. US Army Engineers.. 1940's, North Queensland.... 6MONTHS for 90 Kilometers. That flight was grouse cobber. Cheers for sharing.
Was it just a coincidence, that this video came on the web at the same time as the Gympie Music Muster, with 30000 Campers and about 100000 Visitors? And of course some Awsome Groups like " Hussy Hicks " and Newcomers as " Guitar Gem " and lots of others. ❤😊
@@CrayonboxAviationAdventures I haven’t looked into what the bypass may have done to the pyramid. But I believe it was sighted just north of the Gympie connection road and east of the railway line. It has a location on google maps.
is off Gympie connection rd to TCB just past James Nash High school, theres nothing really to see exept terraced rock walls, was nothing mythical about it was built by an italian imigrant
@@CrayonboxAviationAdventures Any chance you can do a flight out over the industrial estate and the new roadwords being kept quiet (Google imagery pulled and delayed) and the new Rail mechano factory in Torbo?
It's been a huge undertaking. Thanks for your input. The project from start to finish, and it still isn't, began in 2009 with some road realignment work and planning I believe.
@@CrayonboxAviationAdventuresthey actually started surveying in 1980 through our farm near the Kybong air port. Was done in 4 stages from Cooroy to Curra from 2009 about 50km.
I'd say you are correct - it will be awesome - even though it took so long to create. But it is almost finally here. I'll fly over and film sometime after the traffic starts flowing.
instead of the new bypass going to gunalda, it should go all the way to Maryborough and then bypass the whole dated old bruce highway alltogether. I wonder if this will be the final goal
Perhaps you’re thinking of the Wide Bay Highway at Bells Bridge? I’d guess the intention is to travel through Gympie or head north then exit at Curra and head back south.
I heard that they are going to fill Tuan- Tolara State Forest full of wind turbines! I lived at Farm 13, Bruce Hwy, Chatsworth in 1998. Loved it, all open green paddocks , hills and a view over Gympie. It's all acreagage blocks and houses there now. Bit sad!
I had just made an adjustment to the carburetors, affecting mixture. Testing climb outs was a way to load the engine and watch the temperatures to make sure they weren't excessive, and have a runway to immediately return to if there were any issues. I flew today for several hours and all is very well. Even checked the spark plugs today and the colour indicating mixture is spot on.
All the things you mention in your discription are true, But what about the economic effects this will have on Gympie as a town, many businesses rely on people stopping in and spending their money in town, just like all the bypasses in Northern NSW it has killed small towns and the economy in those small towns, so people move to the city, my gosh every major city in Australia already cant cope with its population, this is a huge issue facing Australia ATM........ I dont really see to many positives
Riiiiiight. So they shouldn’t have built the bypass? What complete rubbish. People who WANT something will drive via the old route (and have a clearer run doing so). People who want to get from A to B will benefit hugely by not having to crawl through town.

difference being you'll still be able to drive on ours six months later. but yes, corrupt building officials and chinese traditional tofu dreg style construction is so much faster.
If only we designed highways with a large multi lane gap between the lanes. This way ALL the overpasses, the off-ramps and the guard rails would never need to be touched in the future. And then if you wanted to add a lane at a later stage you could do so without ever effecting traffic flow. We have spent billions on the gateway motorway northbound and for us to add a SINGLE lane, we need to destroy all guardrails, all off-ramps, all over passes to make it wider…. and block traffic for years to do so. Why are we so incredibly f’n dumb.
@@steeldragon5867 Are you saying we should all describe the full video in the title now? I'm really not sorry if you didn't appreciate the effort I took to fly down to Gympie and film the bypass - with some background behind the scenes video. At least some people appreciated it.
