    A comment and a question. Comment: PLEASE tie your hair up when using any rotation power tool. I teach in a machine shop and to see hair loose makes me cringe... even a ponytail /braids are dangerous. Question... where did you get the solid/fluid diverter? That is very convenient for this build. I like the way you oriented this toilet for use and emptying. So nice to empty without getting down on your hands and needs and then carrying liquids thru your camper. Great job!... Again!

      I got the diverter online (check the name of the company in the video description, you'll find it by googling them). Exactly, that way the idea, and it's working great! Thank you...again!

      @@lifeoflenja390 Hi from Brazil! I'm really interested in this project, I have a camper trailer and it has a fixed toilet, It's hard here in Brazil to find a place to dump the black water. My question is, all the industrialized composted toilets have that vent. I'm really worried about bad smell. In your old van didn't you have a vent for that? was it not smelly?

    Something I do .. I use cedar chip (hamster bedding) It last a long time, absorbs all the odors. And continues to breakdown and shrink.
    Put a Thin layer at bottomed , then your solid and sprinkle a little just to cover and your done. And if you want put in a plastic bag.and when it's haft to 3/4 full toss it in a local dumpster.
    The cedar comes compact and last for a long time. Best wishes..

  • @trevorbyron9448
    @trevorbyron9448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Id probably only use that cute toilet for liquids only, but would suggest something like a seal in bag and bucket of sand. Once compost sealer- bag is full, you seal off the bag and remove, very much like that of a vacuum cleaner. One way of disposing sealer bag would be to bury it in a wood or bush, then obviously replace bag with the next one.

    I did the same mistake when I was fixing my controls on the battery pack from the underside - wrong way around and in the wrong place. I'm using a porta-potti for now but also in a drawer and I'll be building a composter eventually.
    *WARNING* : (To others, you probably know this) As tempting as it might be, *do not* use the crinkly pipe to carry away the urine. It may go around corners easily but the crinkles trap liquid and it stinks! Had an old RV once where the guy used to pee in the shower. Fortunately the shower pan and pipe needed replacing anyway.

    for the urine spout you can use a 35mm PVC repair piece which has a flange which fits over a 32mm pipe and the other half fits inside one which means the piece lets you use a bottle with a smaller opening...for instance a 5 L jug of ALDI (where they sell vinegar in... The piece needs to be heated a bit to make it fit the Kildwick urine spout but a kitchen stove can do that...

    I love your persistence! I wish I could borrow just a bit. I'm running out of time on my build too. Plus I still have to move some of my stuff into storage, AND help my daughter move her craft room furniture into a new house (she's not even packing!). I just got "done" with my toilet - must've spent two days on it. I'd love to have one of those urine diverters, or make one(?). I figure I'll come up with something down the road. :-)

    • @lifeoflenja390
      @lifeoflenja390  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally understand those stressful situations 🙈 But you'll make it 💪 And I'm sure you can figure something out on the go. I saw somebody use a modified dustpan as a diverter. Maybe something similar could work for you too?

    @robertlee3734 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    great so simple

  • @rotorbeam1
    @rotorbeam1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The drain seems to be regular sink size, and if so you can put in a push to open, push to close drain plug on it that when close will prevent the urine smell to come back up. If you should forget to open before use, a simple little stick would be all you need to open and flush the urine.

    lol everyone is imagining her getting her hair twisted up in a cordless drill or circular saw.
    They're right but the risk with small tool that stops when you let go is less than one that you can't turn off so easily like a column drill, something like that can twist up your hair and smash your face into the drill until your hair is ripped right off. I had a loose sleeve get tangled in one once and it munched up my sleave past my shoulder until someone could hit the emergency stop. Loose stuff and jewelry around power tools are a big no-no.

      Thank you! 😊 Hm, this is a tricky one because I'm not sure if I am the right one to ask. But I'd say make sure to understand how much time and effort it takes to EDIT videos and then decide if you actually want to do it. I don't want to discourage, but I vastly underestimated that aspect. It takes me personally around 20 hours to edit one video. If you're ready to take on a part time job that you won't be paid AT ALL for two years and push through, I think you have great potential on TH-cam. Sorry, I sound very bitter, but that's what it's been for me 🙈 Now I do get paid but for around 0,50€ / hour. Anyway, if you still want to do it, I think it's important to just practice making videos a lot and make sure to post videos REGULARILY. And make sure the thumbails are as attractive as possible! That's all I know, I wish you all the best and good luck! 😊

      I made the front piece a little longer on the bottom (okay, I'm having a hard time explaining this) and it is elevated just a tiny bit above the ground. This way, when I sit on it, the toilet will be bent slightly downwards and the side will sit on the floor and that way supprt the body weight. Hope this makes sense! 🙈

    Im curious, i see everyone drilling and screwing, is there any part of your build you glue and use a brad nailer? Im wondering if it's necessary to spend all the time with pre drilling , i guess falling in the toilet in the middle of the night wouldn't be fun lol, but a good wood glue and plenty of brad nails i would think should hold good. Just curious if you've learned by experience or heard it wouldn't be good enough?

      It must be longer than wider? I would feel uncomfortable going with my back to the door. But if it narrows the available distance getting in and out i can see why it's facing the sink.

    You can fit a larger cleaning bucket under the separator that will hold the"bottle" at the front just under the drain and that small bucket with a plastic liner or even a paper bag liner with dry saw dust or soil in it. Having the two containers in a larger one really makes it easier to sort/clean and reset.
