    Even though it's extremely expensive vs Diesel-powered, there's a lot of innovation and invention in this design. VW, take note!

      At the end of the day, one pays for one's 'diesel' up front. And then we pay for it again when we plug in.

    I heard mercedes vans were a problem for maintenance as you can only get the repaired/serviced at specific dealers, which could be a problem if travelling to distant parts

      The newer ones have stacks of electronic stuff. My old one was from the 1980s!

    makes sense induction hob, if you want to use gas to save the electric, you can use a small Aldi propane hob for £12.....

    Theres some good points , a shower is essential, but with the price of electric in europe , it just doesnt fly 😢

    Certainly interesting. 190 -220 mile range? My experience of EVs is that it's always a bit less in the real world. Not sure how far 'off the beaten track' I'd like to go with it at present. In the UK there are still plenty of issues with the charging network, although he did say that some owners had travelled down to Portugal. No toilet cubicle is a 'no-no' for me, but that flexible side-kitchen is possibly the best I've seen. Nice video Alan.

      I also have certain worries. At least with diesel, I can carry a canister with me and fill it up somewhere!

      We have converted a Peugeot e-Expert with the same facilities as in this car, but not as plush! We have been achieving a range of around 200 miles+ recently, but this was in near ideal conditions, ambient temperature, not in a rush so driving at 60 mph on the motorway and also using smaller roads. We are well aware that we will not get that kind of range in winter. Our experience is that the availability of chargers is rapidly increasing.

    3:36 Lawrence talks about water tank instead of fuel tank to use for shower. What is the shower fresh water tank capacity in litres? I understand that 20 ltr tank at the rear is for kitchen. Also have Tonke converted UK EQV version i.e. right hand steering wheel, three pin sockets? Thanks Alan

    • @VanlifewithAlan
      @VanlifewithAlan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your support Moira! It never occured to me that the UK plug is different, if one uses the domestic plug, then won't a converter work? The kitchen tanks will also work for washing!

    It's a nice Van. The finish on the build is a bit on the low side in my opinion.
    Nice they tapped into the main battery.
    I don't think you can with the STLA EV Van's.

    BTW.. it's not true that there is no full electric alternative which could be complete with shower/toilet etc. The Ford e-Transit 2H2L would be big enough...

    • @VanlifewithAlan
      @VanlifewithAlan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I looked at this van and its technical spec. It is the best one on the market but I think the range with a camper kit out is still probably not enough for most people.

    • @m00st
      @m00st ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They could use the longer version of the EQV, but there is no ready made roof for that they told me. Also, the weight of the vehicle becomes an issue. In NL the maximum weight of a vehicle driven on a normal license is 3500kg. The van itself is already 2900kg if I’m not mistaken so a longer version with a toilet might be too heavy.

    • @NotJustSawdust
      @NotJustSawdust ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@m00st Yes, in most EU countries its 3500KG... no matter how big, or long etc. It's pretty weird that one can drive a 12 meter limo if it stays under 3.5t but an Iveco daily 4x4 with just 6 meters is to heavy... This will become more and more a problem. If we all need to drive electric cars in the future, they need to change the weight limit on the driver's license... I'm contacting a Dutch European parliament member every few months to ask how far they are with the process (as it is in his field of expertise) ... after 10 years still no progress made on an equal European drivers license (the Germans won't downgrade any further - the younger generation already lost a lot of the advantages the original German licence had - the Dutch won't upgrade....)

    Well it needs solar panels on it. I'll have to wait a few more years to attach it onto a later model vehicle. We shouldn't need to recharge it at a station if solar panels can do it.

    • @VanlifewithAlan
      @VanlifewithAlan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It won't work for most people Mo, although it might work for me! Suppose you could get 3kW on a van - which is unlikely but lets say - that would get you around 10km! 3,650km a year, which is around half of what I do, so I would get half of my driving free of charge!

    Can i ask about the 3000W invertor ? Are you talking about the factory installed invertor, from traction battery to 12v battery ? Ie, do you just switch on the ignition so that the traction battery charges the 12v battery ? Then use hotplate and other devices from the 12v battery ? I have an eVito 150kwh battery so I'm interested in what i need to do to get access to that big power bank. Thanks.

      I saw the message too late Peter. I stopped filming in the Hymer hall when they point blank refused to stop playing copyright music in it - presumably Hymer has a broadcast licence but I don't. However I might still be able to do something for you, there is a dealer very close to where I am now. I also might have it, but I cannot remember!

    WHY INSTALL SOLAR PANELS ON THE ROOF SO YOU WON'T HAVE TO PLUG IN THE CAR. WITHOUT THE BED ON TOP JUST THE SOLAR PANELS SO YOU CAN CHARGE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HAVING TO PLUG IT IN. CINDY GET IT?

    • @VanlifewithAlan
      @VanlifewithAlan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cindy, lets suppose you absolutely coated the vehicle with solar panels. I don't suppose it would be possible but lets say you managed to get 2mW of panels on the vehicle. And lets suppose it was super sunny and the sun was high in the sky so that the vehicle roof charged at 100% and the sides at 50%. In a 12 hour day, of super sunshine with the car not parked anywhere in the shade, that would give you approx. 18mW of power - or enough to do around 60km. However the example I have given is totally extreme and that is not as it is in the real world. If there were enough sunshine in one day to power 15km, I would be surprised. However it is a start, and 15km is probably enough to get one out of trouble and to the nearest charging station.

  • @JoeMaranophotography

    Buy an amazing luxury used motorhome or buy a pissy small electric campervan? Hmmm tough choice. The only way this makes sense is if you are the type of person that's spanks £30‐40k on a new car and figures hey why not buy something I can do the odd camping trip in now and again and use this as a daily.
    I'm not buying into electric being cheaper because the powers that be can just manipulate world events like they did with fuel prices countless times.
