Reading the work of my friends from India or just following the news, or reading news articles, it is a joke...Forget the basics like sentence structure, or formatting, or attention to detail, there is little to no comprehension of how to form a thesis, and provide supporting arguments. I read/edited the paper of a friend of mine who was a brilliant Engineering student in a very prestigious university in Pune, and it was appalling. I had to redline the entire paper. I don't think there was a single paragraph that was without mistakes. It was disjointed, at times rambling...frankly it was embarrassing. I know how much I had to work when I came to the US as a 6th grader to bring my writing up to par in order to pass muster in 7th/8th grade. In high school, for any humanities class, my fellow students and I were writing 5-10 page papers once a month, consistently. The threshold of even accepting a valid submission by the teacher at this level was zero spelling errors, zero grammar errors. If you were found to have one, you had to resubmit it and you were docked a half letter grade on your final evaluation (A would become B+, B would become C+, etc). And if you were found to have miss quoted, plagiarized (intentionally or unintentionally) you got an 'F' for the assignment and that was it. It is unfortunate that Indian schools and the education system does not emphasize reading comprehension and writing skills as they are the most critical skills you will need in the work force. The accountability framework in Indian Universities is a sham! The VCs enjoy all financial powers but do not sign the annual financial statements. These are signed only by the Finance Officers who enjoy little leverage in all financial decision making. This, I believe, is not the case with universities in US where the responsibility for the completeness and truthfulness of financial statement is widely shared by all the decision makers. This makes VCs in India very powerful in all financial matters without any formal accountability.
Chicken and egg argument....talent first or incentives first. My take as share market enthusiasts is ''show me the incentives i will show you the returns''. People respond to incentives, people are not angels.
Unless the analytical minds are stimulated and lateral thinking is promoted, one will only get pupils with mugging up capacity without any understanding of the subject in question. Such ‘cows in the book’ will not eat any real grass! The style of education has to shift from imprint learning to associate learning and analytical ways!
Politician want social science to be political as through this they can propagate narrative that help them for vote bank politics. Political academician want as many as possible identities for vote bank.
Intentions of Prof apart, do we have even the collective desire to discover truth about ourselves, do our education poilicy makers and people behind them even have the slightest impression that there is sone thing called 'truth'? Can we discuss the facts and evidences of Aryan Invasion Theory, or the temple destructions, investigation of Islamic invaders without going totally blind to their own official records-and follow the approach in harmony with the only recognized process of acquisition of human knowledge-can we first learn about those facts which do not fit into the propaganda we peddle in universities and call it knowledge? Can we just agree on the facts based on evidences about the AIT or Islamic rulers or the condition of women and so called 'sub-altern' groups. The capacity to read and write can come later-because I have seen even the illiterates having impressions about the Islamic rule and AIT etc then university researchers and post graduates, which are more harmonious with the recorded information.
Political staff and student unions should be banned in all Indian educational institutions. Students can participate in political activities outside their campus and invite politicians to the campus for their views (as in Oxbridge).
If Prof Makarand Paranjape is concerned about having properly qualified and competent people in the right positions then why does he support Modi? Isn't it apparent by now that Modi lacks the qualification and competence for the job? We have seen that over and over, be it his stupid demonetization, poorly implemented GST, and now incompetent handling of the pandemic?
He is atleast elected by people unlike nehru whose only competency is that he is chela of Gandhi. Nevthless he is much more competent than his opponents.
Pranjape is a brahmin obviously he will support removal of reservation of dalit in the name of meritocracy. When in reality meritocracy never existed till the upper caste was enjoying their privilege till than everything is fine now when the table is turned cry for meritocracy.
Unless we improve primary education and hold people responsibile for their actions and NON ACTIONS

I didn't understand a single word what he was saying

Political staff and student unions should be banned in all Indian educational institutions. Students can participate in political activities outside their campus and invite politicians to the campus for their views (as in Oxbridge).

How come our edu gonna improve when staunch hindu leader like yogi is giving lac of crores for madrasa education??

Some one correctly say loss of privilege feels like opression to the privileged.
Basically you will choose a doctor for treatment based on his caste and not on his/her proficiency.
@@manojbhardwaj9472and why don't u ask this question for 5000 years when a particular community can only do certain job no matter they are proficient in or not.
Reservation is about justice it is a right for which we had fought hard
And reservation provide opportunity to the discarded people who are left behind for a long time let us enjoy these privliges for 100 200 year or so rhan we will think about meritocracy.
And no matter what u people wine reservation can't be removed because sc/st and obc are the true majority thanks to democracy u people hold on power is gone even these brahminvadi party BJP can't remove reservation .

@Sumeet tanwar untrue india was never fully under muslim rule there are pockets like Vijayanagar, nayaka kingdoms, Gajapati etc why don't they bring reforms when they knew there system is not working.
And reservation as I said has nothing to do with economic backwardness it's about justice.
It's not about poverty it's about discrimination and poverty we faced as a community a upper caste may be poor but they were not stopped to enter temple, they were not ahamed , they were not allowed to take water from Wells and ponds,if a dalit ride a horse on his marriage stones were pelted on his barat,he had to carry a pikdan to enter a brahmin house so that his saliva will not be dropped on the ground.
U people consider an animal piss to be divine but touching a fellow human is some what impure.
And it is not something which happened millinea ago it still happened a remote corners of country my grandfather face that goddammit.
U people took our dignity to be a human being a slave is better than us atleast he can be freed but we are stuck
And it's not u who gave us this right it was Baba saheb u people knew if u don't give us this right a demand for Dalitstan is on the horizon to prevent that u did that.
U people belive in karma didn't u well now it is served.
