After watching this video Stuart, you make me homesick for Spain again. The clear blue skies, the warmth of the winter sun, the clear and open roads and the magnificent scenery of the coast and mountain areas, just incredible!
Fantastic video Stu- and PLEASE, ignore the trolls in the comments. They are not worth replying too- life is too short and you only encourage them. I drove from the Orihuela Costa south of Torrevieja up along the N332 to Alicante Airport yesterday, then on up north up the AP-7 (Autopistato de la Mediterrania) to Valencia, and back again. Beautiful drive, beautiful weather. Viva Espana!
So much to enjoy when travelling across Spain. Thanks for sharing your moments with us. Contrasts are unbelievable such as the greenness of Galicia to the starkness of the Guiardarama. Spain has it all.
Couldn’t agree more. Took my car across to Santander from Plymouth in 2007. Drove across to Barcelona, then headed south along the coast. A day’s detour to Granada and Rhonda, then south again along the coast to Cadiz. On to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after a few days. Fantastic scenery, excellent roads. A once in a lifetime trip.
Thank you for highlighting our wonderful area of Spain. We live in a pueblo of less than 1,000 in eastern Almería. We love the beaches of Gabo de Gata. ¡¡Muy traquilo!
Oh the light is fantastic. What a wonderful road trip for us to enjoy. No traffic problems, beautiful scenery, low rise - perfect! It's making me feel very homesick..... Enjoy your puente Stuart.
Good video Stu, l don't often comment but had to say how much l enjoyed the little trip ,we live inland Alicante and our trip for weekly shop over the mountains is a treat for the senses, 19 years and still love it you made me realise once again just how fortunate we really are to be living here.thankyou .
Stu, you've been in 18°C weather in the south while I've been in -4°C up in Andorra (chuckle). If you've never been up here, I would absolutely recommend coming at least once, even if you don't ski. Being from Alabama, I've felt a little bit like a fish out of water climate-wise, and I'm still not quite used to the altitude, but EVERYONE has been very nice, and high in the Pyrenees there are some of the most beautiful views I have ever seen in all of my travels. Hasta Mañana.
Gorgeous! We're visiting the area in February. We will stay in Granada, Lecrin Valley and near Almeria. Scouting for a possible move in the next year or so. Fantastic to see this as I am a landscape photographer!
Couldn’t agree more Stu. We travelled on this road several years ago in a convertible and thoroughly enjoyed the drive round the Cabo de Gata. Also visited Los Albaricoques where the film For a Few Dollars More was filmed. The restaurant there is packed with memorabilia and photos of the Clint Eastwood films and information boards around the village explain the different film sequences. Also, scenes from Lawrence of Arabia were filmed in the area, eg the attack on Aqaba.
Reminds me of some California coasts, .. will definitely need to step foot into Almeria on another visit to Spain i hope.. i have family roots from this province..
That was great Stuart; i went to Cabo De Gata and San Jose on my first ever visit to Andalusia in 2003 and have never forgotten it's beauty ! It's great to see that at least in Cabo De Gata, time does not change much at all ! Looks like a return trip is well overdue; if only it was not so hard to get there due to Covid19 ! SOON ! J
Very nice views, it does remind me of Hwy 1 in N. Cali. Seems like a great location to visit in December. The distance from Madrid not too bad. I would couple the trip with a stop in Granada & see the Catedral where the Reyes Católicos are buried & the Alhambra.
Hi Stu really enjoyed the video and I will definitely try to visit that part of Spain next time I am there. I have a house in Murcia so not too far for us to drive. Looked like some really stunning scenery.
Hi Stu, pleased you’re enjoying Cabo de gato, we have lived in the area for the last 6 yrs, I currently live near the turning for playazo beach at 8mim 6sec of this vid, you could of called in for a brew, keep the vids coming we enjoy them mate!
This has been the most animated I’ve heard your voice to be. I can tell you really love this area. And thanks to you giving us a windshield tour, we can all see why. Very nice!!
Hi Stuart we lived near Mojacar for several years and the cabo was one of our favourite areas hope to visit here next year thanks for a great video keep them coming.
el largo y sinuoso camino. A great trip Stuart, I have driven the long and winding road a few times including in a camper van, which I must say was challenging in parts. How right you are on the speculation scenery and the drive is one of the best drives. Great to see you out and about from behind the desk.
Absolutely loved this video Stuart really cheered me up, remind me of where I live here in Wales 🏴 at the moment without the sunshine plenty of rain🌧 we have some fantastic scenery also, I'm not too far away from there in manilva, Andalucia, going back out in January till march, 🤞 definitely put it on the list for me to go and drive through there👌 once again doing a brilliant job. cheers mate..
Loved that, brought a breath of warm Almeria to the chilly French Alps! Taken lots of geology students there over the last 20 years and it was super seeing some of my favourite places again. Worth exploring Rodalquilar for film locations too and the drive out to Cabo de Gata itself is beautiful.
Great video Stuart, the sea of plastic nearby is ugly, but unfortunately necessary, like I said in a comment yesterday, 5 mins away and you are in outstanding beauty, and this video only shows the tiniest slither of that beauty.
as nice as it is driving on these lovely roads, I think I would prefer being a passenger, as you can soak up these magnificent views so much more. So thank you for letting us be your passengers.
Another great video Stu. You may or may not know that just up the costa from Las Negras is Palomares which is still contaminated with radio active material due to 4 nuclear bombs being dropped when an American bomber collided with a refuelling plane at 31000 ft. Two of the bombs were burst open , one was found intact in a river bed & the other one was recovered at sea after a ten week search. It was one of the world's worst nuclear accidents & could have been a lot worse as each bomb was about 6 times more powerful than the Hirosima version. It happened in 1966 & despite a big cleanup operation there is still contaminated land that cannot be used until more is done. The USAF servicemen used in the cleanup have since suffered cancer & other serious health issues. If your jamon or paella glows in the dark then best not to eat it!!!!!!!!!
@@juanluisperez639 Unfortunately it is a historical fact that this happened. If the nuclear material had exploded instead of being scattered as it was, then none of us would be here now. The Americans removed a lot of contaminated soil & paid Spain a lot of money but some contamination remains (in 2 trenches near the cemetery I believe), so if I lived there I would be asking- why was it not cleaned up completely?
That large bird of prey flying from left to right at 8:44 and backwards with the sky as background at 8:46 is a Bonelli's eagle, which is at the verge of extinction. Wish we let that landscape stands and won't die on us.
Driven that road a few times and know the area well - don't tell the rest of the world about it though ! Yes its a popular area amongst the campervan community, even some old style pot-smoking hippies living in its more remote areas.
Enjoyed the video very much! I feel I know the place. Definitely looking forward to going to San Jose Almería. As alway, thank you for the interesting and entertaining videos and info on Spain. Saludos desde Puerto Rico!!!
Please film San Jose. I've not been there since 1982. The population was around 200. Always reminded me of Mexico. Without doubt Spain's best kept secret. Jack Nicholson film The Passenger was also filmed there. This is also popular with Digital-Nomad communities. The food is to die for.
Love your insight into Spain . Tabernas still has the old movie set for the Sergi Leoni spaghettis movies & is new a bit of a theme park with daily western shows run by the stunt men & women that still make movies there.
Great video Stewart, we spent a month in San Jose and drove that route several times, quite stunning. Only thing for us was that in Jan and Feb most places were closed so when buying a place to spend the Winter we opted for a more touristic area that was more alive that time of the year, but must give a shout to La Estrella the Indian restaurant in San Jose, really genuine food, great staff
Many parts of those places similar to locations in Southern and Eastern Spain. Only Spain is probably 1/3 the cost of living in California (I lived in California for 17 yrs and now living happily in Spain- could not afford California any more and working like a slave there and barely surviving and being stressed out all the time- it's no life). Not just that- the towns and cities and Architecture and history here is beautiful. Walking around the old towns here in the warm sunshine is like being in a dream.
There are many municipal wells in the area, but also thousands of illegal wells that are lowering the water table drastically! I've lived here for the last 20odd years as a sparky doing jobs for the local community including the farmers and their wells! It is a fantastic area but we are always at odds with the local council and their oppressive attitudes!
Stuart great pics. Reminds me of a short trip we had there 4 years ago. Fabulous place but don't tell anyone please 🤔 Not many places to stay though so I'd welcome some recommendations as I want to go back early next year.
Is this part of Spain more affordable for a family vacation? I have seen pictures from Ibiza and the clientele that stay seem like they are a very wealthy sort of people, or am I wrong on this?
The comparisons to Florida are due to the fact that many retirees from northern Europe retire here in addition to the large amount of tourism. Either way, Almeria is an area of deserts. It is not the best place to use the rest of Spain as an example. If you want something tropical you can go to the Canary Islands.
Hola!!! im your follower, may I request? please feature murciano/murciana granadina goats in one of your vlogs. if you can feature farms, farmers that raise this unique type of dairy goat that is found and breed only in Spain. Hope to hear from you please. I'm a goat raiser in the Philippines. My full name is Benedicto Hernandez Mayo.
Sadly just to the north of where you are up around Tabernas (and in fact all the way down to beyond Malaga) they are trying to turn the whole area in to one huge solar farm and make the area the power house of Europe which is very sad, should be more investment in encouraging people to install solar panels on the roofs of homes, factories and shopping centres and generate power exactly where its needed,
A good part of Almería is an empty desert. It seems very appropriate to use it to generate electrical energy from renewable sources. Better that than nuclear or coal-fired power plants. Regarding the installation of solar panels in buildings, it is something quite complicated in Spain because most of the population lives in flats or apartments, which makes it impossible to install panels.
