It would really help me out
Wanted to take few videos along the way on what all I did to replace my heater core in a 1998 mitsubishi montero 3.5l gen 2.
You don't wanna do this. It is much easier and less of a hassle to have someone else take care of this problem.
The steps that I took was the QUICKEST WAY to get the job done. Not the CORRECT WAY.
This is just a video on what all to expect for those who are interested in tackling this problem.
There is barely any info in the FSM on how to do it. It barely even addresses heater core.
In the video, it shows how to remove
the center guage
ac controls
radio unit
speedometer
passenger airbag
left knee guard
the whole dash and the heater core.
I am not a mechanic nor am i skilled enough to give any mechanical advices, but follow at your own risk. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Absolute legend mate, just bought a gen 2 pajero, no heat or ac, would be completely stuck without this guide
Glad to hear that man.
Happy that it helped someone.
Unfortunately for me I'd probably have to try this myself... It doesn't look easy, it doesn't look fun at all, it DOES look like a real pain in the ass.
My ac only works with cold air, when I select hot it sends out somewhat warm air only on the centre-left vent... that probably means I have do solve other problems in addiction to the clogged core...
I thank you for this very helpful video but I can't promise you I will be the one doing the job 😂
Thank you for taking the time to film it looks like a lot of frustrating work I have a GEN one so it’s probably pretty close to what you’re doing again thanks
No problem!!!
The main frustrating point was figuring out a way to take off the heater core from the heater unit box. There were no instructions on how to do it other than removing a lot of other stuff.
Thank you for documenting this!, lots of help
Glad it was helpful!
Ong that was so helpful! Bro I am in your same situation, I recently got a Mitsubishi and I am trying to take it apart but I have no idea what I am doing. Please continue to make more videos like this!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Thanks from Brasil 🇧🇷, I need to do the same with my 92 gen2.
Dude. Legend. Thank you for documenting all this. I'm at the point where I can see the core from the top. Got the center stack out, and the AC evaporator and blower assemblies are just hanging. So you just kinda pull up on the core while flexing the heater box away from the firewall, then?
PS: You also talked me into replacing the center vents and covering the dash. 🤙
Ya pretty much, just start yanking it out, wiggyling it back and forth.
Yes and make sure you use good quality vents, because I used some cheap ones and they are already flimsy now.
I have to do this next weekend over 4 days 👍
Ah man, it is gonna be fun.
get the punching bag ready
Now i know..thank you
Where did you order the heater core from? Thanks for the help on this video.
I got the early batch from LusoOverland.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
thanks for the video. i would like to do it soon! but i know it is a very big job! But why it is not the correct way?
Even though it might seem that big at first, when you start to do it, it kinda flows one after another. I meant taking off the heater core from the heater unit is not the correct way. The correct way i believe I kinda explained it in the video, where you have to take off the two boxes to the side of it.
@@johnj007 understood :) thanks again. This video will help me for sure
My share is evoscan to read the codes.
Hey, thanks for this video. Did you have to discharge the AC system to remove it this way? Also, did you end up breaking anything by removing the core this way? I have my dashboard off and am seriously considering trying this method.
No, no need to do anything with the ac system as the heater core is a seperate system from the AC. I dont think i broke anything, other than stripped an already stripped out bolt that holds the lower dashboard in.
From my reasearch, this is the only way to get it off, pretty much wiggling and prying it out.
I dont believe you are going break anyting if you take your time with it.
While you are at it, make sure to change out the vents with a good quality oem, so you wont have to do all of this again when it breaks.
I actually pulled the dashboard to replace the vents with OEM and found the leaking heater core. Thanks for the info.
@@user-rl2gc4jg1ni also need to replace central vents... how did you do it ?
@@Carlcox89 you have to remove the whole dashboard to do it. Then disconnect the vent from the main HVAC vent that sits inside the dash board. Push the vent out from the inside. And reverse to install. There’s also a vent cable that you have to remove and attach the new one. It was a PITA.
I've just bought a pajero myself and it turns out the heater core needs replacing. I'm not looking forward to doing it.🥵 But can I ask did it all turn out to be ok after? You didn't break nothing after all was good 👌
Oh man, ya it is kind of a long task just to change out an easy part.
No luckily I didnt break anything useful or havent had any problem with it.
I have also found out that the heating issue that I was experiencing was not due to a heater core, rather it is probably from the ducts.
Now I am going to be looking for a small 12V portable heater for the passenger side, rather than doing all this over again.
@@johnj007 I took the dashboard out today which took a few hours. There was a hole in the heater core pipe. So hopefully I've found the problem 🙏 just gotta put it all back together then 🤦
@@johnj007 What was the problem you found with the ducts??? (Btw, the heater core extract video was fantastic! Thanks)
how much does it cost to changethe heater core $$$$
i have no clue, but since our's is different from other cars, it gonna be way different from how much other cars cost.
They are prob gonna charge for 6-8 hrs labor atleast.
I’m having heat issue. Shop just quotes me a grand in labor (8 hours) just to get to the heater core.
