No. I never liked it. I use iTunes for my music and audiobooks.
Personally I use Vlc so prob not.
Not a fan of this update and what microsoft is going towards, they and many other developers are removing their dependancy on the windows shell which means you cant theme the system beyond dark mode and light mode which sucks because the UI style since windows 10 is very minimal and boring in my opinion. back in the day nearly every program could be skinned thanks to their program using the system shell to operate. Another problem about WMP changing to a modern design will most likely mean that microsoft can collect more data which is annoying
I've always used Media Player to play my music I just like the way and where everything is laid out
i prefer the groove music over the ol' skool version of WMP which is for more than 2 decades...
I use the media player classic all the time to play MP4 / MP3 I never stopped using it. It works well and has an auto-shutdown feature after a track plays.
VLC - It may be a bit old fash', but it plays almost anything you can throw at it. I know one guy who deleted dozens of files due to WMP not recognising either the audio, video or both. However he installed VLC recovered them, and presto all worked fine.

VLC is a monster player but I use similar one to VLC called Pot player more modern and plays every thing and can add skins to it plus the quality of its sound more pure then VLC with massive EQ bands and lot of video and audio features lot of them huge u can try it
Massive 10-4 on that....it can even be coaxed into playing security videos too...I knows it, I's Dunn it!

I'd love to see the return of Windows Media Center, I found it very useful, especially now that streaming is much bigger.

It's not really Windows Media Player when you can't rip music or transfer your music to external devices and mp3 players.
exactly this is what I needed my new windows computer to do rip CDs and sync my music to flash drives and my new PC just updated my media player now that option has disappeared
Wait, let me get this straight. Media Player will NOT sync music to my phone? Looks like I'll just be using WMP classic until it's no longer supported.
I gave up on Media Player because it kept wanting to see was my music files authentic and it seem to keep resetting to get by my firewalls to always open the early Microsoft Store. I only use it to open midi files and when Windows 7 constantly force defaulted it to block VLC and others programs after ANY little update was made back then.
Will this play nice with the codec packs like the windows media player on Windows 10 did as that made it much more versatile. The problem with the windows 10 modern media apps was they never were able to be improved in the same way
The classic windows media player is already in Windows 11 under windows tools.
Any chance of them bringing back Windows Movie Maker? Loved that for quick edits and short videos .. ;)

I have more than a decade since I use VLC for media. It can play everything you throw at it and it never let me down.
also for audio only player there's AIMP very powerful and can add skins too, can play mp4 vids without displaying the vid, has android version, for android also I recommend audio beats

Hello Brian. Have upgraded my laptop to Windows 11, and it seems to be working fine - except the Widgets task does not load, when I click on its icon in the taskbar. Just wonder if you've done one of your helpful videos on the Windows 11 Widgets topic? Thanks, Richard
I haven't used windows media player ever since the Windows XP days, never seen any point in using it. Media Player Classic and VLC fulfil my needs.
For music, I still use WinAmp. For video I use MPC-BE.
I'll be sticking with VLC, as it does so much!
Its a good player, but it does not organize music or videos well
me too,and for music files i use AIMP,in this app you have DSP,i always put the bass synth up a little,that creates a nice bass in my senheisser headphones

I have version 22000.376. WMP was inherited from Windows 10. I think that you can get the old one from Apps in Windows 11. Old app works fine. I kind of have my library there. Can you still Rip CDs for your collection and choose quality with new player?
Right now it's not broke, I don't see a need to fix it. Seems too web based on new player, not sure if I like that. I hope Windows 11 does not boot off old one.
Ye Olde Media Player did things which are completely unknown in Groove and its renamed version. Just try to adjust the play speed, for example. That is something I do as standard when listening to radio programmes and podcasts. I'm sticking with the stuff that actually does what I want,
where's the list view to sort my songs by date acquired???
hiya just quick question when i go to open the music folder and i want to play some songs where has the ribbion gone to so u can play all the songs in that folder now i have to highlight it and click play befor it offer u to play all in win 10

it will play that new microsoft audio cd player always in all versions of windows they have kept it even in windows 10
I hope to god they bring back the Skins feature from the older versions. The Ui on the main program looks dual AF.
Good video! The new one is a replacement for Groove Music however I believe the old one that still exist to date will not be removed anytime soon.

where is the visualization in the new media player app in windows 11? the older media player 9-12 had to where you could change the visuals and themes in the background?
I've got the original Windows Media Player remote which is one reason why I keep one PC running Windows 7. Any idea if it'll work with the new app? If so I can finally update that PC! :)
Watching the video I noticed you sound a bit like Michael Caine, think it is the accent. I went to launch Groove as usual and it launched Media Player as has been added to the stable version.
It doesn't support all codecs (specially audio), can we use vlc codes with this app? I like the interface as it has a dark theme unlike the archaic VLC. But VLC's real power is to support pretty much everything,
It has problem with repeat.
When you close music player , repeat button get off. Please check.

Yes well Brian I used the media player for years and found it uncomplicated and easy to use especially for copying CD's for the car. This new app looks to me to be a tad complicated to install and use and again like you say one has to worry about data collected eh?

I've recently set my new laptop to dual boot Windows 10 and 11 and can run Windows Media Player in either operating system - both show it as 2013 version 12.0 which is basically the same as the version with Windows 7. So, it seems Microsoft have not yet removed it from Windows 11 but does this mean they soon will? I shan't be happy if the programme is suddenly wiped out from my system as I have set it up with over 800 albums complete with album art! If that happens then I'm going back to Windows 10.....
Groove was rubbish so I uninstalled that on both.

Finally that dreaded groove+movies/TV combo is gone. It can be Windows Media Player 13 for all I care I'm just glad those irremovable programs that do one thing separately are gone. This media player better have MPEG-5 on it.
Can you show us how to rip albums into the new media player on windows 11 please? And how to search for albums and how it shows them up too please?
my windows 11 just did an update it it no longer has the option to sync or burn my music from my library .Im trying to figure out why
If the new media player will use more file formats and codecs like VLC then I might look at it. Otherwise I will stick to VLC

Old media player had dlna media streaming options from mobile devices. I think new one doesn't has that.
Windows media player 11 just updated .
My music library no longer fills the whole screen like in groove. It does on the home button but only shows songs not albums.

my media player just updated and not only shows a smaller screen but now I can not longer burn CDs or sync flash drives with my music library so it's useless
MS have really done it with this release, like buying a car without a steering wheel and only 3 wheels, normally buying a car with only 3 wheels but trust us we will send you the missing parts later………

I will probably go find a player that is more intuitive than the "New" Media Player. For example, in the New MP one has to leave the playing que in order to add new songs to the Playlist.

I'm facing a problem of USB drive. After change the format of USB drive, I put 5 videos in the USB drive, the fifth video that put in the USB drive half cannot play and after plug out and plug in again, the video will corrupt. Not the video problem because I delete the forth video and put the fifth video, the fifth video is perfect and no problem but the fourth video will have same problem like fifth video if its the last one, copy and paste is normal and I still have space in the USB drive. Please help for this problem, thank you

I still use Media Player on Windows 10 so I’m glad they will be bringing it back for Windows 11.
I hope the new Media Player will support the new HEVC/H.265 codec or it will be a failure. I noticed that the HEVC/H.265 codec is becoming more and more popular every day and it is getting harder to find certain videos on MP4/H.264 codec

Upon switching from Groove Music to Media Player, Microsoft screws up all my playlists and i have to relist all over again.....
why use this limited player while VLC can play everything

I just uninstalled my VLC as I do not use it very much, and this video got recommended to me.

I use potplayer now a days, its a great alternative to VLC.

What is point of those nowdays? It couldnt be many users of mp3 and mkv files left out there. Isnt it all streaming now anyways?
I tried it. There's no utility for importing your old MP playlists so I winged it and basically trashed it by adding a folder to the music library. It's very rigid in that it only wants you to do things a specific way. But the playlist thing makes this unusable for me. I'm not going to spend a ton of days re-creating playlists, especially when they contain various mp3 files not all from the same artist/album.
Plenty of other options available that will play your media. That would better the media player in the first place

Pretty well said. It's just a rebrand of the groove music. Nothing really special. I personally use the zune software to this day. I find it to be one of the best music player apps ever.

Bring back the ability to move the taskbar to the top (among other things) and I’ll consider eventually adopting Windows 11… IN 2026

I liked my taskbar on the left, but I doubt this will be implemented on windows 11 since their design revolves around the new taskbar, which is why they left that functionality.
I think it will be better for MS to buy Winamp and keep developing it, it's much better than WMP

Pot Player, MPC-BE and VLC still rules. Especially like Pot player for its flexibility and addon support. There is no meaning to default media player on windows until they allow full screen stretch, color , sharpness, brightness changing options to it. It looks funny that how m$ remove good things , reduce options and flexibility of an app, rename it and come back to old name without changing any options in it. A child's play.
Brian...FIRSTLY, happy New year kidder. SECONDLY, imho Groove Music SUCKED, so good riddance to it. I still run Win 7 Pro and on it?....you've guessed it, Media Player. I am a DJ of FORTY six years and wouldn't use anything else- plays videos fine and all my DVDs too... no fancy skins or background crap, just plain old 'scope" . SHOWS ME ALL I NEED... I have a WIN 10 laptop from which I REMOVED Groove POS'h^t and 're installed good old Win 7 media player. GR8 video as usual and have a good 2022
I don't like this new version, it finds the video files but can't find my music files on my desktops. Does it work with AMD processors? I ask because the new media player works with my laptop which uses an intel processor and the desktops use AMD.
my groove music spontaneously updated into media player, and i don’t like it. i’m using windows 10 btw. i’ve made the decision to play all of my audio files in foobar2000, and all of my videos in Films & TV
